Where have you guys been getting calls/letters from? Anywhere good/that you want to go to?

I've been talking with coaches from Yale, Stanford, Princeton, Brown, Dartmouth, and Georgetown, which is nice because quality of academics is more important to me than athletics in college.

Good chances too because I kick ass at multiple choice tests =)

What about you guys?

even though I'm class of 08......I've gotten letters from 4 of the schools you listed. out of those, I like stanford. coach was a 3 time olympian in the discus.

Robert Weir is the scariest man to ever talk to on the phone...but he's really a big teddy bear.

he is a big, strong, powerful man. besides throwing at 3 olympics he also played defensive end or tackle in canadian football I believe.

Definitely. He sounded huuuge over the phone the first time I talked to him. After that I realized at least part of it was the accent =)

Yeah he was in the World's Strongest Man once or twice as well. The man's hands are the largest I've ever seen. They swallowed mine on the handshake.

Haha it's almost like we're making Chuck Norris facts for Robert Weir.

The only people I've talked to are Nebraska. Thats about it. Lol. Oh Brown gave me a call, but they're throwing program is horrible. Academics are important too because I too kick ass at multiple choice tests.

Tabor: At the USATF website, they have what are the performance lists. I don't think these are who are all going to go. These are just ordered results. They only took my regional qualifier. Tell me what you think about who's all going. www.usatf.org/events/2006/USATFJuniorOlympicTFChampionships/entry/performanceLists_Young.asp

That's a pretty stud field. I think Morris has an outside chance of breaking the record if he finally hits a good throw. I'm also interested to see what Luke Bryant throws, I heard he gained some distance since going to the Powell camp this summer. Overall, I think the winner will be much higher than the 181' last year.

Tyler Hitchler

Absolutely stacked. There could literally be 10 people going over 180 feet. I did some research on Morris and WOW he's had some good throws in the past. But he only qualified in the mid 70's. Myself, Lettow, Jonovich, Boevers will all be verryyy veryyyy close I believe. I see Morris, Bryant, and Tabor distancing themselves from the pack, but who knows. Then there's Tsai and Parsons and Talbert all thrown right in with everybody. Insane. Should be exciting. AND 40 PEOPLE ENTERED. Gonna be a long meet.

Yeah Korion is my roommate next year and he threw up in rainy Washington. If he had some of those Cali winds good god he might have thrown 220 this year. I saw him warmup at 210 with the 1.75k disc at Junior Nationals, he just pressed too hard in the comp but still had sector fouls over 200. He's almost too fast for his own good. He'll blow up like nitro next year at UofA and I think he could push 200 with the 2k, he's already thrown 185+ with it.

And 40 kids, damn. I sure don't envy you guys. It would suck to catch a big throw in the first flight and have to wait around for assumedly (is that a word haha) the next 3 flights of 10 to get to finals. It would put you at a big disadvantage.

But just like every year at Nike everybody isn't going to be as on it as they should be...it will come down to who steps up at the right moment. Tyler, when do you guys throw?

I hope they group in flights of 10, that way I can be in the last flight. Yah, hopefully things will be going pretty smoothly and we can get through it pretty fast. I can't believe that many people are actually gonna make the trip.

Question. I'm bringing my own discs. Can I just put them in my regular bag or will they raise a big stink at the airport??

Thanks,

Hitch

Don't carry them on. I had a big problem with it trying to bring them to Vegas two years ago. But I wouldn't even bring them period, they provide all implements. Unless you REALLY want to throw yours. But then anybody can throw it.

Hey Tabor how did you do at nats? I did not go for the first time in four years, went to Itlay and greece with a group form school instead of summer track. I read the entries and did not recognize a bunch of guys. Saw you at Golden West, had a bad day in disc bailed out and went to Tahoe with the fam before the awards. That was a tough wind, again. I threw my hammer into that lake in the morning, almost did not get it out.

I have gotten calls from big colleges who don't offer track money. (Princeton, Dartmouth, Brown, Cornell) Stanford called, he was scary, Notre Dame, Fresno, UNC. Going to visit Princeton, he sounds good and great school, but I want to go here in CA, but man they are not calling. I would love UC Davis or U of Oregon, but they have not been ringing.

disc 180'4"
hammer 172'9"
jav: last year 155'10"
shot i suck: 49'

Jake...saw your post on The Ring. I didn't know you worked with Dr. Fahey. That man is awesome. He's at Powell Camp pretty much every year and he always has a q&a session which is always the best part of camp. Don't worry about the Cali coaches man, they'll start calling, especially with your hammer mark. If they don't then just email them and they'll definitely respond. Take it easy man.

Keller, I have never made the Powell camp, Tom was going to take me last summer, but we could not afford camp and nationals in indy, so we went to nats. Thanks for the info you should become a recruiter. Linnenbrink will be here on the 15th, any questions you think I should ask that I may not think of? Thanks again.

jake.........

while in baltimore I visited princeton and it was nice. but I'm really not the easy coast kind of guy and not a big fan of the weather. while at goldenwest i visited stanford and talked to coach weir and I think stanford is awesome. you got an olympian coach and a great school with a sweet campus and nice town. everyone at JO's threw like CRAP. we threw at 8 am so maybe thats why. I threw a 178 (wow)....which tied my intermediate JO meet record I threw an entire year ago haha........oh well I PR'ed in shot with a 60'3'' so it was good.

Tabor,
I was so glad we did not make that trip when we saw the order of events. I was so happy when I was not intermediate anymore thinking we would get an afternoon time, that is like 5am for west coasters. Great job in the shot. Weir called again, but he is pretty negative with me so I don't know why he has been calling, 3 times I think. Anyway arean't you going to OK?

welllllll I'd like to go to OU cause its a little over an hour away but the coach that coaches the throws is the decathalete coach. So no throws coach really.....they used to have an awesome coach who threw 208 and 65 with the college impliments, but he isn't there anymore.
