My brother and I kind of do something like that for the Olympic trials every four years. I think Track & Field News does that. I definitely think there is a way somebody could figure it out that would make it cool.

My friend Freddy created this last spring. He made a list of all nationally qualified D1 runners (or D2/D3 guys that hit the mark) in track events (no field events) from 100 - 10,000m. We each took turns "drafting" these runners. You're allowed to make 5 picks, if someone picks one runner, you cannot pick them. You can have all your guys be sprinters, or all distance, or a combination thereof. Then he created a point system. Each weekend he'd go through results, plug in the time into this equation and come out with a certain amount of points for each athlete. Then he'd go through everyones fantasy team and add up their points. The person with the most points after outdoor nationals was the winner. After each weekend the results were posted on his personal website. Oh yea, it should be mentioned that relays didn't count either.

The only down fall to this system was that it didn't include field events and it wasn't automated. It may not seem like it but it was a lot of work. If a runner who was better lost to a slower guy because he had an off day, that was not taken into account. I felt that upsets should be rewarded with bonus points.

An example of a "team" is below:

Jerimey Wariner - 400
Steve Sundell - 1500, 5000
Jonnie Drake - 100
Richard Phillips - 110H, 100, 200
Alistar Cragg - 1500, 5000, 10000

Here you are. I dunno if it's still running or whatnot but i ran across this a while back.I've participated in the run-down fantasy track league the past 3 years. I finished 10th one year. It seems every year half the people I pick don't compete in the meets that are scored. Sad days.
