i know most of you are shot/disc guys, and i am a girl who throws jav, but ..
are there any jav throwers or coaches out there who can help me out? i'm looking for ways to work out before outdoor to get ready for jav this year. lifting, plyos, drills, whatever's gonna help since i'm gonna be a senior. also, i have a history of a shoulder injury.
pm me if you need pr's, height/weight, etc. thanks

I hear throwing softballs or weighted balls are a good way to keep it easy on the shoulder.

yeah i have a turbo, but there's only so much you can do with it, and it's a little awkward since it's short

Yea I don't like throwing them, the long tom is a little better its just thick, and hard to throw compared to the real Jav.

welcome to the gun show
By far, the best javelin source on the internet is The Thrower's Page:
http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/8682/jav.htm
Great information, and the Javelin Discussion Forum is regularly visited by the top all-time throwers and coaches in the U.S., including Tom Pukstys, Tom Petranoff, Kim Kreiner, Breaux Greer, Jeff Gorski, etc. Before asking for training advice, check out the information that is already available. Jeff Gorski is the USATF head of men's javelin development, and will be more than happy to give you plenty of pointers.
If you want great training videos, also check out:
www.coachmcdonagh.com
Andrew McDonagh is the Volunteer Throws Coach at the University of Arkansas. He posts plenty of great training videos segments, and will add training info throughout the off-season. He's coached Eric Brown for the past four years...Eric was runner-up in the NCAA Championships this past year and has a PR of 78.14m.
Good Luck

believe it or not, those arms can launch a jav around 100 feet. nothing impressive, but i don't know how it happens

that pretty good,
I was looking for some workouts for my daughter and found the following links:
http://www.exrx.net/Lists/PowerExercises.html
http://home.sprintmail.com/~jesusvirella/_uimages/AtwoodJavelinStretches1.jpg
The first has a very complete list of plyo and olympic weight workouts...video isn't the greatest, but it will definitely give you something to look at.
The second also has some pretty crude detail, but since you've had some shoulder problems, flexibility work should definitely help.
Didn't copy the link, but you MUST read Jeff Gorski's 1982 article on the "Soft-Step Approach to Throwing the Javelin" (just shout if you can't find it and I'll send the link). Young throwers have benefitted more from that one article than anything, and many have saved themselves from nasty elbow injuries (Tommy John surgery).
Good luck, work hard, throw far.

I'm also a senior girl jav thrower(pr 122)... on the off season I mainly throw the med ball (especially good if you have had an injury), work on footwork & speed, and core strength & flexibility. good luck and throw far!
