I ran the most poorly organized 5k I have ever run today in Mexico Beach, Florida, as I was Brett-Marlined (Saltillo Inv., 2001) into a second place finish at the Sandy Shoes 5k walk/run. The cop on the ATV, who I was running head to head with, stopped at the first fork in the road, where a girl was standing. It was totally unclear which way to go, so I asked the cop, who pointed me down the right part of the fork. I was way ahead at this point. After an estimated 45-60 seconds down this road, the ATV speeds up to me, telling me I went down the wrong road and to "just keep going the way I'm going." Realizing this advice is ridiculous as I have no idea how to get back on the course, I run back the same way I came, which puts me in about 4th at this point. I catch and pass both of my brothers but can't catch the guy in 1st, who beats me by 27 seconds. I run 21:28 (I slow down a lot once I see I can't catch him). I'm estimating I lost at least two minutes on that road, which would still give me a poor time. I didn't go all out either, and I should have just caught the guy, but whatever. I failed to react like Marlin at the finish, choosing to react with indifference. The ATV guy obviously had no idea where to go and was using the girls standing at the turns to show him.

Anyway, I was shafted, but who cares, Hengelo is tomorrow and then Pre next week. And they can't give you the wrong directions on a track LOL!!! (LAUGHING OUT LOUD!!)

This new verb I created refers to a similar situation Marlin once endured at an xc meet in 2001. Since Brett spends all his time running from cops and playing b-ball now, and probably doesn't read dyestat anymore, I guess it's safe to bring up the fact that he looked like this after the incident:

you know whats worse. In a 5k race last year theres this figure 8 route taht we run 2 times. on the second kind you continue on the third lap but instead you cut one of the loops and proceed to the second half of the route. than instead of following it around you cut directly into the center halfway thru to the finish. Well on that part its hard to see the actuall turn because theres a bunch of palm trees and the way the fence is along the side is confusing [zig zags]. Well i was in first by about maybe 2-3 seconds going into this final cut where we goto the finish as im going im completely lost and shout "where do i turn!?" at one of the so called officials who was nothing more than some fat porker in a lawn chair....well the lady litterally just laughed at me as she ate some bag of chips from the snack bar. I keep looking waiting for the right way to cut than i turn around and the guy behind me had cut in about 10m behind me and was already crossing the finish...not only that but a pack of about 6-8 guys were just turning as well!!! i was like wut the fck!. luckily i still caught the other gusy and got second but i was so freakin pissed off!!!
