powell or wariner? considering they both havent lost in their respective specialy events, id say its as close to a tie as you can get. but i would have to take powell considering hes tied the world record twice this year (i think).

I think it would definately be Powell, considering you can't really look just based off of wins, you'd need to look at the performances. Powell has had an amazing season, with 10 sub 10 runs, and as you said, equaling the world record on more than one occasion (Norwich Union Gateshead, and Zurich). He even ran 9.99 after getting a terrible start in Brussels, he was quoted saying that judging off that time and the start, he felt as though he could have bested his own world record (http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?section=trackandfield&id=2561424). Warnier, although likewise dominant doesn't quite overtake Powell this season (In my opinion).

Wariner. Even though powell hasn't lost head to head Gatlin did get a better time than him at pre classic, even though it was under wierd and maybe even tainted circumstances. Sub 44 multiple times is a pretty powrful statement in my opinion.

QFE, not to mention 11 sub 10s. And the season isn't over. Powell is ranked #1 overall by the IAAF, and has straight up and down dominated timewise and competition wise this year.

Who won the Golden League bonus again? Yeah, thats what I thought.

Winning a Jackpot purse of US $249,999 each (83,000 + 166,666) for achieving SIX wins were three athletes:

Asafa Powell (JAM) – men’s 100m;
Jeremy Wariner (USA) – 400m;
Sanya Richards (JAM) – women’s 400m.

Just confirming what jacksparrow said... so.. yeah, don't really know what the intended impact of that post was?

Powell has had a more impressive season. Wariner has had an insane season as well, but Powell has been absolutely in perfect form.

I was referring to Jeremy Wariner...I didn't know Asafa Powell won the bonus too

Anyway, I'm still sticking with my story. I'm not sure if Gatlin counts since he has been proven to be a cheater, but he was more than on Asafa Powell's level. Whereas Jeremy Wariner has had no one on his level for a good year or so.

As I said, yeah Gatlin is a lousy good for nothing cheater, so him being on Powell's level is up for debate.

Sub 44 multiple times is a pretty powrful statement in my opinion.powell was most likely training through the pre classic so he could taper and pwn gatlin at gateshead.

powell with 2 world record runs and a 9.86 into a headwind or something.

well u have to remember that say Jeremy had the world record in the 400... as Asafa does in the 100, its much harder to run/equal a wr in the 400 as it is in the 100

I think Asafa Powell. They both destroyed everybody, but he tied the world record twice. The Iaaf agrees also...

Powell, but if Gatlin hadn't been busted, I'd go with Wariner.

I have to go with Wariner, but Powell has had an amazing season. I just think going sub 44 and hitting times like JW has been hitting is more impressive then sub 10 100's. I can easily see how people would think Powell had the better season. It's a tough question.

Two 9.77's is an even more powerful statement i would think....

Not when they're tied by the guy that set them.

How can anyone say Wariner in this debate? Powell is having the best individual 100m season ever. Can anyone say that Wariner is having the best 400m season ever? The fact that he tied his WR twice this season, ran sub 10 12 times, and hasn't lost a race should easily put him ahead. Not to down Wariner, but he has to get close to that WR and break 44 like 5 more times this season to be in the conversation with Powell.

Powell. No one has EVER had a better single season statistically (obviously not a WC or Olympic Year) in the 100m.
