there's a link at the bottom of the page to get to page 2; 94 total runners in the race.
Team-

same deal, links at the bottom advance you to further pages.

Girls top 5 teams-
1. 22 Yankton High School
2. 66 Stevens High School
3. 102 Lincoln
4. 102 Luverne Public School
5. 118 Brandon Valley High School

Yankton won this competition easily but does have a 1:54 overall time spread behind Bies, their 5th was back a bit here. It's early, but not what you're looking for from HL#1. Bies is nearly a minute out front of everybody and looking to me like the strongest runner in the HL girls picture at this point, with 3 very strong races so far.

One interesting link between this race and a top Mn Team is Luverne MN's Lexi Heitkamp who placed 6th today in 16:00; she's a solid runner in our class A small-school scene and has been ranked as high as 3rd in that class (overranked a bit IMO) by our coaches polls.

Just this past tuesday Lexi placed 6th in the Adrian invitational, another tough course- in 16:30. While I do believe Lexi ran a stronger effort here today, it needs to be noted that on Tuesday the Adrian girls, with their #1 rested out of the meet, placed 4 runners in front of Lexi and not by a few sec, their eventwinner crossed the line 43 seconds ahead of her and their 4th was across 17 sec ahead of Lexi.

If Lexi's two races this week are comparable, and while again I don't believe they really are- and you bring those Adrian top 4 into this one based on that notion, with their #1 alongside tuesday's eventwinner- then a tuesday 15:56 avg there with that #1 in position improves Lexi's 30 sec here to a 15:26 avg time and a win over Yankton with superior packing and superior avg time by 14 sec.

I do believe that Adrian would have given Yankton a very close race had they been here full strength due to that much superior packing, but probably not taken them in avg time. But their absence from the HL top 10 remains a glaring one, and it'll be interesting to see if Adrian's in that group when they get updated.

Yeah it was a great improvement but keep in mind the conditions. Last year it was in the 90's and this year I believe in the 50's or low 60's.

yep, last year was AMAZINGLY hot, had a few runners pass out, just ask swike06 ;)...

Kind of like the Faribault race, just a lot better running conditions...but i also give credit to the runners as well for being in better shape probably this year

Yeah, you don't improve as a team by 48 sec because its not as hot, most of that improvement is simply a reflection of improvement/preparedness.

The SF Argus Leader has a good report with quotes, Ms. Bies sounds nearly apologetic for 'only' being being out front by about a minute yesterday :D :

The Yankton article; it mentions both Yankton squads will be in this Friday's Norfolk invitational with HL#5 Marian NE girls from Omaha- that promises to be a stellar matchup individually between Betsy Bies and Emily Sisson, the established senior vs the undefeated freshman; along with the team race between these two programs. The article reports that the HL#5 Kearney boys will be there as well.

whats up with your racist attitude man? Unless you are native american, you were a foriegner to this country at one time as well. Get over it, and get a life. I'm sure "they are good simply because they are from africa" you're truly a genius. The runners on Willmar's team are as much American as you or any of your athletes are, use whatever excuse you want to, but what it comes down to is that you dont like getting beat, and instead of getting out and training, you are pissing and moaning about how their families immigrated here within the last 20 years instead of 75-100.

Easy boyz, he just asked a question and the fact is you don't see a high school team completely made up of scorers with Islamic names all that often here in the USA. The fact is that there are certain towns with particular industries that have attracted Somali communities, and the recently immigrated families do tend to stick together in clusters. This has been true across the centuries, every large city that immigrants moved towards had their Irish neighborhoods, Italian neighborhoods, German neighborhoods- and we're seing that today as well. The Hmong have made St. Paul a new home in a big way, the Somalians the same in SE Minneapolis and several of the outstate mid-sized towns as well. We saw this with the Marshall state champ '03-'04 to an extent and now even more completely with Willmar.
