How about the open meet at NTN? How does this effect plans for any CA teams?

yeah i think the ntn open race should be only open to NTN ranked teams from all the regions..im sure some teams already registered are going to get pwned. i wish this race was stacked with the on the bubble teams which have a good chance of getting better team times than the worse region teams in the championship race.

I think my team would have gone had it been a seeded race and we could make the cut, but since it isn't we're just going to run FLW instead.

I saw this on another thread, but my coaches reason for going was "Who wants to go all the way to Oregon for an open meet?"

If it were guaranteed to be a competitive race, than I think more teams would go; how it is now there could be a teams that might be at a lower level of competition than the ones who would be seeded in such a race.

With the current division of the national meets (FLN and NTN) I think it would just make too much racing for some runners. If someone has to run at State, FL regional, FLN, NT regional, and NTN that would really take a lot out of that runner. If Nike ever gets FLN and makes NXCN this could really help those runners out.

I think you are right about needing to get rid of the committee though.

I agree 100%. Let the runners decide for themselves who will go on by putting them against each other and letting it work out on the course. The committee is by no means fool-proof, I'm sure they've never made perfect decisions. If we have qualifiers, with like say 20 teams from each region competing, nobody can complain that they didn't get invited to the party. FL let's the runners earn their trips. Last year if it weren't for the qualifying rounds, Tradelle Ward never would've made FL because he was ranked in like the 20s before the regional meet. What did he do? Go to Nats and get 14th place. We need to make qualifiers so that we can see things like this in NTN as well.

Andrew Carey, your point is well taken, but I don't think 5 races is an extreme amount to ask. Most state meets are early November, so they've got plenty of time to recover. If they alternate the regionals something like FL one week, NTN the next, then FLN the next week, NTN final the next, they should be able to make it through. It would be strenous, especially with all of the travel, but who said XC was an easy sport? If they don't think they can do it, don't do FL or don't do NTN, just try one.

I think you are right about needing to get rid of the committee though.Yah, it would definitely be a lot more feasible if they combined NTN with FL, but that would probably make FL a lot more complicated.

Nah wouldn't be that complicated. All they would have to do is have them run the same race. Team scoring would be the same with individulas not on a team not counting for team scoring.

What I would like to see is every state have the top 5 teams in every division in the state race, then the top team from every state races in a national meet. They could do the same for individuals, would do away with having to worry about rankings and teams getting jipped and stuff.
