View Full Version : Who will be boys SW #2?

mountainman

With Academy looking like they'll easily keep the first spot, who will end up SW #2 at the end of the year? If Campbell County loses to Cheyenne Central at some point and Mountain View loses to Davis at some point I can't imagine who will end up #2 in the Southwest. Fort Collins lost this weekend to Cherry Creek, both Davis and Desert Vista didn't impress at Firman. Probably whoever wins the Rocky Mountain meet would be my guess. Maybe another good question is if Mountain View wins out but doesn't leave the state and Campbell County wins out, who's #2 then? Mountain View based on reputation or Campbell County based on travelling to Liberty Bell?

Desert Vista will have a challenge this weekend. We might have a new NTN ranked team for the SW.

I don't see what wasn't impressive at Firman ... I thought that Davis ran ok, especially without Inkley. And Mountain Crest ran a GREAT race there! They were both very close to a couple very good teams in Central Catholic OR and Gig Harbor WA.

Davis:
3 Jared Ward 12 Davis 5:01.3 15:36.03 1
24 Spencer Anderson 11 Davis 5:20.0 16:33.92 21
26 Seth Gutzwiller 10 Davis 5:20.2 16:34.70 23
52 Bryson Snow 11 Davis 5:30.6 17:06.89 47
54 Jake Van Weezep 12 Davis 5:31.6 17:10.15 49
-66 Jared Clouse 12 Davis 5:36.5 17:25.38 61
-68 Chris Burnett 12 Davis 5:37.0 17:26.91 63

now, a 1:34 spread isnt normally that great, but in previous meets it had been bigger (1:44 at BYU) ... and this is without Inkley. Now, I don't know what's wrong with Nate, and I don't know if he's going to turn it around by the end of the season or not... but if he can run like he was running last year, this team is going to be good. If not, then it'll be a dogfight between them and Mountain View.

But again, Mountain Crest was really the team to talk about from Firman for the SW. Solid race by their guys

8 Justin Hedin 12 Mountain Crest 5:06.5 15:52.11 6
31 Zak Dymock 11 Mountain Crest 5:23.4 16:44.69 27
37 Kevin Dickey 11 Mountain Crest 5:25.0 16:49.66 32
42 Skylar Riggs 10 Mountain Crest 5:28.5 17:00.46 37
46 Neal Ferrin 11 Mountain Crest 5:29.5 17:03.57 41

not so great of a race by Ferrin... but look at the improvement of Dymock and Riggs! They are looking at a 68 second gap behind Hedin.... that's pretty damn good. And with Ferrin within 30 seconds of Hedin on most days, that'll put them in very good position.

well, given your Jared Ward is about inline with Ben Johnson from Academy estimate which seems about right you would have Firman being 30 seconds faster than Academy.

Academy:
Ben Johnson 15:36 1

Rio Rancho and Cibola are likely up with Gallup or at least with Sandia. Davis being about as good as 4 other NM teams outside of Academy is not worth SW #2 in my mind. As Hawaiianfiveoh has said, this is a weak year for Utah.

This weekend will be a good meet in AZ. Doug Conley where the top 20 teams only race.

Rio Rico just came off a good meet (Los Mezquites). Where they won by almost 100 points. There #1 JV runner would have been 9th in the meet overall. And there score would of won by 100 or more. The results are here. http://vmedia.rivals.com/uploads/1128/404253.txt

Given Recent results I would say SW#2 should go to whichever WY team beats the other. Maybe Rio Rico will crush at Doug Conley, maybe them then. I don't think any UT or CO teams can really make a case over the WY teams now.

Rio Rico and O'Connor ran awesome at Conely over here in Arizona, I truly believe that Rio Rico could do some damage Nationally, they just never leave the state to compete

Yes Rio Rico won by quiet a bit. Molera ran about 20 seconds slower than he did last year but they still won by quite a big margin for this being the top 20 teams in the state winning by 58 points! I believe there 1-5 is 26 seconds.

Rio Rico will be racing at Mt. Sac in the Division 1 or 2 race from what i heard.

Also congrats to Victor Zazueta and his win at Doug Conley running away from everyone in the last 3/4 - 1mile.

well, the spread is nice... but Desert Vista was in that race, so it'd be easy to look at how they would compare to some more national teams, and even regional teams.

DV at Firman:
14 Matt Boughton 11 Desert Vista 5:12.6 16:11.10 11
22 Matt Swift-Kraemer 12 Desert Vista 5:16.9 16:24.54 19
44 Sean Rutledge 12 Desert Vista 5:29.1 17:02.43 39
57 Aziel Koski 12 Desert Vista 5:33.4 17:15.58 52
60 Chris Conway 11 Desert Vista 5:33.8 17:16.95 55
64 Erik Woodward 12 Desert Vista 5:36.1 17:24.10 59

DV at Conley:
7 Boughton 16:18.22
21 Rutledge 16:43.89
23 Swift-Kraemer 16:49.01
56 Conway 17:18.31
57 Woodward 17:18.51
76 Koski 17:29.71

Boughton: 16:11/16:18
Rutledge: 17:02/16:43
Swift-Kraemer: 16:49/16:24
Conway: 17:18/17:17
Woodward: 17:18/17:24

looks like Rutledge and Kramer just had bad races... courses are around the same speed.

so....

Molera 16:26.63 = 16:27 = 19.5 BF points
Evans 16:36.31 = 16:37 = 23.5 BF points
Hernandez 16:42.29 = 16:43 = 25.5 BF points
Fraizer 16:46.52 = 16:47 = 29.5 BF points
Reyes 16:52.66 = 16:53 = 33.5 BF points

Team score: 131.5, placing them about 9/10 points ahead of what Davis ran.

so....who's SW #2 now?
Campbell County lost to Cheyenne Central on a tiebreaker
Mt. View lost to Davis
Rio Rico looked good but about as good as everyone else
Wheat Ridge looked good this weekend
Gallup looked good with their top runner starting to run like it
you could almost make a case for 2 WY teams, 1 AZ team, 2 UT teams, 2-3 CO teams and 2-3 NM teams all for the #2 spot. Either way, 2-15 or so is all really congested for the boys right now.

Campbell County and Cheyenne Central are both VERY impressive...

Mt. View and Davis are both very close, not really quite sure how to rank them.

Rio Rico looked very impressive against AZ competition, look close to Davis/MV et al

Wheat Ridge has no front runner, but have a very nice pack... but the lack of a decent frontrunner kills them too much in elite competition.

NM#2, whoever it ends up being, also look very strong...

right now, I'd have to say either Campbell County, Cheyenne Central, Mt. View, Davis, or Rio Rico... but definately keep an eye on New Mexico!

Campbell County, Wheat Ridge, or Cheyenne Central. It remains a toss-up, they should hold off ranking this one for another week.

Ok, this is how I see the SW Top 10:

1) of course, AA (NM)
2) Cheyenne Central (WY)
3) Campbell County (WY)
4) Wheat Ridge (CO)
5) Rio Rico (AZ)
6) Gallup (NM)
7) Cherry Creek (CO)
8) Ft Collins (CO)
9) Davis (UT)
10) Chaparral (CO)

With Davis losing Inkely, I see them dropping considerably. Also, Cheyenne Central is good, but Campbell Cty has already beaten them this year, and that was in a much bigger meet (Liberty Bell). Not to mention, when I combined the LB results, WR ended up only 9 points behind Cheyenne Central...Also, I compared WRs 5 with Rio Rico's 5, and they are virtually the same!!! So that kinda tells you where Rio Rico stands as well. And Mtn View? I think theyre gonna need a miracle after losing Coulson Goodwin. But all in all, I'd say 2-5 are EXTREMELY CLOSE!!!

Inkley hasn't really done anything for Davis all year so I don't think it'll make a difference. He didn't run at Firman or Orem. It's unfortunate that he's not more committed but they'll have other guys step up, I think. Jake Van Weezeup is running better every week

Cheyenne Central (WY)
Campbell County (WY)
Wheat Ridge (CO)
Rio Rico (AZ)

These teams are going to be very tricky...seeing as they seem to be at about the same level when rested, and are coming on strong right now.

Good luck...I am holding my judgement on WR, CC, and CCent until NOV 4 when they all face each other. Prior to that, it is just to damn hard to tell.

IMO though..I am going to say that they (NIKE) will be hardpressed to keep Rio Rico out of #2 after AZ state meet. Making that NOV battle even more deciding.
