Ok heres the deal, I am a sophomore 400/800 runner with bests of 51.9 and 204.7. I really want to run into college, maybe attaining some money. I am 5'11, 129. I am lacking the strength of your typical 400/800 guy. Can anyone help me devise a weight regimen that you feel will help out my strength greatly and make me a better runner. Thank you everyone.

random. do cross country, it helps big time

Strength training is absolutely essential to a 400/800m runner. Don't let anybody tell you differently. You must understand, however, that the weight training might make you slower right away, but they will pay off in the long run. I don't have the space here to lay out the entire program. If you really want a full program, send me a PM.

Do you focus on olympic lifts or what? How is the set/rep range?

not heavy weights, no it isn't. You can accomplish a lot with a little. Just using medicine balls got a kid at our school to 1:52 his senior year

I would say olympic lifts. I believe that slow training or lifting equals slow racing.
