Wow, close race, LA almost pulled it out. I hope it solidifies their NTN rankings, they deserve to be there!

Well, now it's 28-41. But still, pretty close for LA. I think it's safe to say they'll be getting a phone call from NTN tomorrow...

Actually, it really is Academy 31, Los Alamos 35. LA's 3rd runner, Gareth Gilna, lost his timing chips during the race, so he doesn't appear in the results. I assume this is simply an oversight, since they DID present him with his medal for placing 4th, and announced the team results as 31-35. I guess they just put up the chip results without adding Gareth back in.
In addition to running very close to AA, LA handily beat all the 5A teams. I haven't seen it scored together yet, but the average times speak for themselves:
AA: 16:11
LA: 16:18
Gallup: 16:34 (top 5A)
Navajo Pines: 16:43 (top 1A-2A)
Sandia: 16:50
St. Mikes: 16:53 (top 3A)
Looks to me like LA deserves that NTN slot - they are clearly the 2nd best NM team, and beat the best CO and WY teams head-to-head.

yeah his meet couldnt have gone any worse. I didnt actually see it but from what i heard he had suddenly stopped racing around the 2 mile and about a second or two later just collapsed on the spot. He was taken to an ambulence where(im not sure) he was rushed to the hospital.

Any opinions on the results from 5A Boys Individuals and Teams? Very interesting. . .Nicholas Barrera-2nd. He did the same thing at state for track last year. Nobody had really heard of him and he got 5th in the 3200 I think. Manzano 3rd place. Also came out of nowhere.

I think Tebo could have gone faster... not by a ton, but maybe 5-7 seconds faster wouldn't have been out of reach for him. Too bad he and Johnson didn't get to run in the same race... maybe they could have pushed eachother more.

yeah thats exactly right. And yknow i dont think tebo ran his absolute heart out because when you have over a 200m lead its not really necessary to run your hardest which is what i think he was doing. I believe he got his lead and coasted but dont get me wrong i know he was running hard but i just dont think that he ran his hardest.

Benjo is a great talent and he will have a lot of success, but comparing him to Tebo is crazy. Tebo ran away from the get go with nobody at all to push him. Benjo in turn had Dustin nipping all the way to the 2 mile mark when he dropped him. They both could have ran faster with constant pressure, but Tebo is the better talent. Also, it was said that Tebo was training through State for future races, imagine what he could have done if he was peaked for State!

yeah ive heard he was training right through as well. Hes most likely training for FootLocker. And thats what i meant by the coasting thing is that no one was pushin him like benjo somewhat does so all he did was get his lead and keep it no push on harder. Its not that crazy but in every meet before this tebo has topped benjo by 20 seconds about which is a fairly good amount.

yeah he is very good and is most likely the second best runner in the SW after tebo who we all know is inhuman. Its very likely that at NTN he could turn out to be the best runner for our SW region because he is definitely better than Allan Pittman who is the #1 for LA the other team attending NTN. Although to put Benjo right up there with tebo would be a lofty goal for him next year i believe. It could happen though who knows especially with the right amount of training

There are a few Colorado runners who have something to say about that, ie Medina, Lenz, Tolev, Apppel, Manilafasha, Williams, Weeks, and Clayton might have a fairly different view, just a hunch though.

true but he is right up there with them. ran a 9:26 as a sophmore at 5000+ feet, can run with just about anybody. only 11 seconds behind tebo @ UNM and 5 behind tebo in a different race @ state

Evan Appel's a sophmore, Joesph Manilafasha is a sophmore too, and Kevin Williams is a junior. And it's not like these guys aren't improving.

Haha I've been acting like a 10 year old? How so, a guy said someone was the second best in the SW region, I pointed out 7 other runners I think are better and pointed out that he lost to a lot of them when he raced them, and that a lot of those guys were juniors or sophomores. I don't see how I'm acting immaturely but you're entitled to your opinion. I thought we were just talking about who is the second best in the region this year and who we think will be the best next year. I didn't think we were arguing I thought we were discussing. But whatever I guess.

What are you talking about?? Like todd said he got second. Thats not a lot of those guys beating him. Thats 1 guy and its not likely they will be at NTN. Right now only tebo and some guy at Liberty Bell beat him. Thats 2 people this whole year. And he came off an injury at the beginning of the year with Liberty Bell being his 2nd meet of the whole year. I really doubt that he wont be in the top 2 for the southwest at NTN

he will most likely be #1 from the SW at NTN but the california teams count for the top 2 on the teams that run the west regionals that go to FL

Benjo is likely as good as anyone in CO except for Medina and possibly Tolev. He's gonna have a tough time getting to footlocker from NTN though.

He was second in his race. Medina had a faster race in a lower division along with Manilafasha, I don't think Kevin Williams ran that race, Clayton ran about the same time sick, and and I think Appel ran faster. And Tolev beat him in his division. If I recall I think that's about about what happened I don't remember exactly what happened. feel free to correct me.

williams did run that race, 15:26, so ahead of tolev too. Liberty isn't probably the best race to base anything off of though, seeing how it was almost 2 months ago. I would only base stuff off of recent races, or if you know the kids, how they're feeling

I was just using that race because I think it's the only time that Ben Johnson has raced in Colorado and he happened to race a lot of the people we're comparing. Unfortunately CO and NM don't race too much.

yeah your right there and i didnt know the other people beat his time. Although thats not a very good way to tell because who knows if they actually had each other to pace off of and stuff. And i dont know if u caught it earlier but like i said he had just come off and IT band injury which had him out for i think almost a month maybe less.
