okay .. I have recently tried triple jump for the first time

first competition jump is 40"2.5

I think that I am strongest in the hop phase and weakest in the jump phase .. In the hop phase, I have attempted the cycle; but I dont think I am experienced enough to do it. I just would like to genuine advice if you have any

On that 40:2.5 jump, my approach was not full speed. When I made my mark, I made it striding, on my first attempt, I went full speed, and wasn't even close to the mark. On my second I did the same. Then I finaly just did a really fast stride on my 3rd attempt and hit the mark, so yea, basicaly, my strides are shorter when full speed , I know that could've improved it a bit

If you need more info on my form etc just ask .. :)

**something else that I am curious about, what are your first highschool Triple jumps and what are you jumping now? .. just to get a sense of where i can be :)

When you go out, make sure your running stride is straight, you dont want to take steps to the side because those are wasted steps. The approach is the most important part of the jump, you can be the best jumper, but if your approach is off it wont be a good jump. You want to accelerate off the board, not lose speed down the runway. Do not try to cycle yet, as you are just starting. For now just drive those knees out. Also, try to avoid landing of the heel...you want to push/jump with the quads.
Also, it would be to your benefit later if your jump phase was the best. The best triple jumpers in the world have long jump phases. A long hop phase means you are losing momentum. Stay low, stay fast, and it will help.

edit:Freshman year I was tjing like 35ish. Soph year i went up to 40'2.5" and this year im up o a little over 43'

edit 2:also do long jump drills to help with the last phase. when youre going down the runway keep your chin up...just keep your head looking straight...also try swinging your arms alot down the runway; long swinging arms mean long swinging legs

thanks .. also, after landing from jumps, I land hard in the pit and well keep going .. (i land and keep going forward, even went all the way to the end of the pit once) .. I'm guessing its because I dont go high enough on the jump phase .. any suggestions

i went to the end of the pit from long jumping in practice .. its not so bad with triple jumping, but it still happens .. and it kinda bothers me because all that wasted energy could have gone to add inches in my jump

thats part of my jumping that i still need to work on, a correct landing can add major footage to a jump...that last phase of triple should be higher than the first 2, who should be low to the ground. I think this can only come from increased strength but also staying tall throughout all the phases

one of the most important things about triple jumping is driving your knees and keeping momentum throughout your entire jump. Also, make sure you dont jump too far in the first phase or else you risk having your knees buckle and not jumping nearly as far as you can. Once you jump off the board, make sure you cycle the jumping knee around and get it out in front of you in order to maximize the distance you can get. Triple jump is all about extending your legs and knees. I started jumping spring of sophomore year, with my first jumps just under 40 feet. By the end of the spring i hit 43 feet. This year as a junior, I was jumping mostly 43s indoor, and then really stepped it up in teh spring with training and PR'd at 46' 3".

some good drills are bounding across grass, hopping on the same leg while focusing on getting the jumping knee out in front of you (you will find out just how uncoordinated you are, i sure did), and also using a practice box and doing single leg and double leg jumps up and down onto it for a set amount of time, a minute is good. Also, make sure you do speed workouts with your team in order to help your speed on the runway. In order to try to get your phases mostly equal, set up cones on the runway equal distances apart and jump inbetween them. It will help you mentally get the phases right. Good luck for next season, since this one is probably over. My season just ended on wednesday.

well i improved my jump from last week by half an inch lol .. I really would like to get 41 next meet .. if i think about it .. all i have to do is add three inches with ea phase :p

i think what he is saying is, when you kick off the "Free" leg after the first phase, bring the other leg's knee forward aftwards?

i think this is what he is saying.. lets say you take off your left foot for your first phase...

you first drive your right knee fowards as you take off.. then cycle the right leg around.. and as the right leg goes to the back.. your left leg should come fowards, bringing your knee up, and once your knee is up, extending your leg foward, stretching for more distance

this is how one executes phase one, as far as the 2 legs go.. hopefully you can understand my one long sentence :)

yep, aidan got what i meant. It makes a ton of difference. It helps with your form, and also strengthens your legs at the same time
