An early season 50.2 split at Tx Relays after a 22.8x and 51.0 split in the cold...tells TrackDaddy that Ms. Grit and Coach Clyde have a definite plan.
I love...to see a plan come together. :D

Is Sanya being coached by Clyde Hart??? I was pretty sure she was still working out with Bev Kearney at UT, a 100 or so miles down the interstate from Coach Clyde...
I saw her run at the Texas Relays and she looked smooth.

She hired him following the '04 Games. So she's in the same coaching camp as Wariner although their sponsors are different.
Wariner is with Adiddas (I believe) and Ms. Awesome has signed with Nike.

Former St. Thomas Aquinas state champ Sanya Richards is too busy to get married and settle down to start a family, according to her mother, Sharon, when asked about the rumors circulating about the Olympic gold medalist. Richards led the U.S. 4x400 relay to a win at Saturday night's Texas Relays and is training with coach Clyde Hart and her father, Archie, at Waco, Texas. She plans to compete in the Penn Relays and Prefontaine Classic.
"Everything is completely false," Sharon Richards said. "She is so far from married and pregnant. She is raring to go on the track."

She looked great at the meet, slim , happy and fast.
After her race the announcer got her and Raasin over and interveiw them over the PA and let them talk to the fans, it was great...Raasin had her hair still short but blond and she gain a few pounds and looked great also.
It was really great to see them cheering the Texas ladys on in the 4x4, they were really jumping up and down and yelling on the anchor as Chapple held Perkins off.

Things are going well for Sanya. She seems happy with Coach Hart and it's obvious it's paying off.
I think one day some guy is going to the luckiest man in the world and some children will have an awesome mom, but as Sanya's mother said, those are nothing but rumors.
She's got a World record to break first. :D
I think she's gonna make the world say "Sanya" at the WC's and Oly games in the years to come. She's still VERY YOUNG (barely 20) and has lot's of time.

Sanya and the USA 4x4 will face Russia and Jamaica at Penn.
But the Pre Classic in a about 6 weeks is the one to mark on your calendars boys and girls.
Ana, Tonique, Sanya, DeeDee, Hennegan and Christine Amertil will meet in an Olympic finals rematch.
They are 6 of the 8 Oly Games 400m finalists from 2004.
Ms. Grit (Sanya) is about call "check" on the world at the tender age of 20!
With "Mate" soon to follow. :D

Yes, she will do really well this year. I just can feel it, I think her tactics will be a lot better and her 400 will be run smarter. WIth her speed and strength, there is no way that she cannot pop out some great times...just as long as she doesn't do the "she-hulk" thing and run outta her mind in that 1st 200m...but to bring it home like that while doing so is what surprised me...the girl is a beast!

She doesn't have near the same turnover she once had.
At Penn, she got ate up pretty good on 3rd.
In this meet she runs 11.46 and 23.77 finishing 5th and 7th respectively.

I haven't seen the Pre field, TD, but I have seen some of the ones you all mentioned. I tell you it will be a good year for the U.S. women in the 400 because I see Sanya, Hennegan, Trotter all well under 49. With those three and some add ins in the relay, where the splits can be faster, I don't see the WR as a stretch. They'll definately run under 3:17. It hasn't been a long college season for Sanya, Trotter either...Yes, RUSSIA, Jamaica, Poland, Greeece, Czechoslovakia...whoever, may want to stop chasing for some years.

Richards ahead of pace in post-Olympic year
By Beau Dure, USATODAY.com
The large line of NBA Draft underclassmen notwithstanding, college athletes have a difficult decision when it comes to giving up NCAA eligibility. But Sanya Richards has little reason to regret her choice.
The former Texas runner gave up her last two years of eligibility before the Olympics last summer. In Athens, she won gold in the 4x400 relay. This year, the 20-year-old could be in line for all kinds of international honors.
At the Jamaica International Track & Field Invitational, fellow relay gold medalist Monique Hennagan ran a 50.83 in the 400 to finish second. That would have been the top time in the world this year if not for Richards, who ran almost a full second faster. Richards' 49.96 is the first sub-50 time of 2005.
For her effort, Richards is USATODAY.com's U.S. Olympic Athlete of the Week.

Here's the Pre 400 field...
Ana, Tonique, Sanya, DeeDee, Hennegan and Christine Amertil.
Load-ed.
One aspect of Ms. Richards '05, that I've noticed, is the increased range of motion upper, as well as lower body. Over the decades, Hart's work, direct or indirectly, promotes positive degrees of freedom about the joints of prime movers. The "Event 300's" perhaps?
As vallistastud49 stated, "she looks relaxed..." A very good and confident sign this early.

I'm telling you the U.S.'s young guns has something for those other ladies. The only thing I can say is Ana has had her shine and I don't think she's happy that she fell off. We'll see what she's made of at Pre. BTW, when does Pre come on TV?
I forgot about Henderson. From the way she was talking in an interview, she's ready to drop something ridiculous too. I think she will be REALLY close to sub 49 this year. That would be ridiculous.
Tonique is a former Gamecock and I give her her due but she'll have to move over. I say Sanya and Trotter 1-2.

I expect more from the US women than from the others. Our ladies have to be ready for Senior Nationals (later in June) in order to make the WC team, while Ana and Tonique will be focusing on WC (early August). OMG...LAURYN ROLLED OUT in the 200m, she PR'ed that wa fantastic, and even more impressive was how Allyson eased by her in that last 50...very easily I might add...and almost PR'ed. Colander did a good job by coming in 3rd. BUt these youngsters are ready to take over the reigns!!
Just as I knew it, Sanya is already showing the improvements of her training, she's consistant at the 49.9/50.0 mark so that bids well for her attack(and I am in agreeance with u guys) on that American record.
VC rolled as well...she had a bad start, but even more so, MUNA HAD A FREAKIN HORRIBLE START...and for her to catch everyone and come in 2nd was crazy, but she needs to get that 1st part of her race together!!! Good job by Wariner to let everyone know he has just BEGUN to run this year...and Joanna Hayes who looked great in beating Felician...again!

The main difference i've noticed in Sanya, is her race strategy in the 400. I've always thought she wasted too much energy trying to catch everyone early. Sometimes she would seem to be worried about making up the stagger on the runner to her outside, that she would pay for it in the last 100m. A perfect example of this would be at NCAA's last year. She was chasing Henderson, and seemed to want to pass her early, but Monique isn't exactly mediocre, so Sanya didn't pass her when she wanted to, and she ended up running a 36sec 1st 300m.
Now Sanya looks a lot more under control, and relaxed. You get the impression that during the race(400m) she can slow down or speed up at will. And thats how it should be in the 400m. Especially with the way Hart teaches the race pattern. She has to be able to adjust during the race. Last year, I didn't see that at all. She was going hard the whole race, and she was either not in shape to do that, or it was just a bad race pattern. I think it was the race pattern. I can't wait to see her run a 200m.

I'm so glad to see Lauryn running the 200m. I can't stand seing specialist. I've always thought she should double here and there. But now the US has another legitimate threat in the 200m. I think this will translate to her 100m being more refined. Last time someone ran a curve that fast, the clock flashed 19.32. I was actually more impressed with how she maintained her form and how she didn't tie up in the end.
Allyson looks way to relaxed lol. She didn't look like she was trying at all in that 200m. The way she ran the 1st 100m should be a wake up call to everyone who thinks they have to strain and press to run a fast curve. The more you press the slower and more energy you'll use. Allyson cruised and came off the curve only a meter behind Lauryn.
It looked like Colander expected the race to be a little slower.
VC is a beast.....
You know how people say that on any given day someone can be beat. I don't think Veronica should be included in that theory ;)

I'll have to catch it on TV.The spectacular ,stupendous, huge track & field extravaganza"the California High School State Meet in Sactown June 3rd and 4th will be taking place. Can't miss it for the world. Also you college recruiters and coaches probably need to come to Cali that week and just stay for the NC's.Ask any college coach outside the state of California if it will be worth it on the boys and girls side. :D
Fourjz, you took the words right out of my mouth!
Not sure if you heard, but James Logan's Kevin Craddock who had been suffering from a nagging quadracep injury all season long wound-up tearing his hamstring at the North Coast Section "Bayshore" Meet on Saturday in the 110m hurldles. He is done for the season, and his loss means that James Logan just gave up 20 points at the State Meet to the Long Beach Poly Jackrabbits! - - - But this just in, LPB's Boys 4x400 just got DQ'd on a uniform violation because one of the kids was running without compression shorts like his other three teamates, and had his boxers shorts come out while running! All this on the way to running a 3:15!!! :(
Meanwhile, David Klech of Cal High in San Ramon ( North Coast Section ) who would have met-up with Craddock in this coming weekend's North Coast Section "Meet of Champions" in Berkeley ran a 36.18 ( all by himself, I might add ) in the 300m hurdles, to put him at #2 U.S. JUNIOR EVER and behind Craddock ( 35.93 ) and California State and National Record Holder, George Porter ( 35.32 ) of Cabrillo of Lompoc back in 1985.

Wilson of Long Beach Girls just ran a 3:41.02, pushed by Rancho Cucamonga at 3:41.91

You TEXANS need to come out a week before the NCAA's so that you can see how it's done out here . . . Cali-Style!

I couldn't agree more. Henderson is another. Elite class turnover with evolving special endurance characteristics. Particularly Richards '05.

I want to see somebody run a Marita Koch type race in her WR 400m run. If anybody here has seen it, they know what I am talking about. It was ridiculous and simply dominating. The person who got 2nd (and was embarassed by MK) would have gotten 1st at the Olympics in Athens, I believe. Back on to Sanya though.I've seen it.
I think she ran it from lane 1.
The prediction earlier in this thread by Ronnie Moore and affirmed by me and Knite is that Sanya will take down Briscoe-Hooks AR 48.8x.

Sanya is clearly ahead of the other US runners, but in light of her previous times this year (49.96 and 50.00), I think people were expecting more in this race. In fact, I was surprised that she only ran 49.98 in a losing effort. Hart probably had her hold back and work on strategy in light of the upcoming championships.
Darling has to be happy. This is only her second race of the year and she beats the elite.
I am a little concerned with Trotter. She didn't look good at the adidas meet and her performance at PRE was nothing special. With 3 weeks to go and she get to where she was last year?
Demus also has to be disappointed with her time. Of course it didn't help she was in lane 1.
Hennegan is doing the same thing as she did last year. Will she come out of nowhere and win nationals?
It's MoHen's time this week. She has no other races than the 400m and has already stated she wants to break the collegiate record.

ONLY?
LOL...that's the 3rd fastest time in the world this year behind only her own 49.96 and Tonique's winning time.
Only, huh? ;)
Actually Sanya probably ran just about the time she wanted. I heard her say recently that Coach Hart wants to save the 49's for later.
I haven't seen the race but the results tell me that the kid who's only 3 years removed from high school, had a chance to beat the Oly Champ.
And don't forget...Tonique was preparing to race her arch rival Ana Guevara in this meet until she pulled out the day before. So you knew Tonique was geared to go sub 50.
Tonique, being the Oly Gold medalist had to be determined not to let a 20 y/o first year pro beat her.
Don't you think?
And Sanya made her run a world leading time to prevent it.
As for Demus I agree. In fact I kinda thought she may finish top 3 after that 53 400h last week.
I also agree with you about Trotter and it seems that maybe she is just slower to come around. She came on late last season first at NC's then the trials. And that was with an indoor season. She also ran indoors this year but has a much slower start.
MoHen is going to challenge the collegiate record and I'm pulling for her. She'll need someone to get out hard on her outside I think to have a real chance. I know she can do it but the NCAA field is not what it was last year and comp always helps set records.

It was windy on the backstretch, which was obvious considering the 100m times.
I would have liked to have seen Demus in a better lane to see what she could've done. Especially already having run 53.5 in the 400h.
BTW, Tonique is a former Gamecock. Congratulations! (she's a rival now).
Ms. Richards races to-date reminds me of Michael Johnson during '96. Each round (trials/games) had a specific emphasis and I wouldn't be surprised if the emphasis, for Pre, was on the strong 200-300 with a relaxed/stepover finish.
I remember him telling me that, with each developed race segment, there should be a greater confidence with proper execution. Unlike last summer (at times), she appears to be decelerating less than the competition. Look out!

Why is that such an amazing statement?I didn't mean any offense but the statement is amazing for a lot of reasons. It just goes to show that you can never make people (I don't mean you) happy for long and that human nature is to always to expect more.
Consider:
1) Sanya had only run sub 50 twice in her life before this meet including once this year.
2) Although prior to this race she'd done it once this year, it's still quite early in this season.
3) Prior to this race she was the only one in the world to had run sub 50.
4) Her time in this race was sub 50.
5) You used the word "only" as though it's easy to do. I believe that "only" 6 or 7 different women in the whole world were able to run sub 50 last season with Tonique doing it the most AND NONE DID IT EVERY TIME OUT. For example...I think Silver Medalist Ana only did it like 3 or 4 times. Sanya only did it once. Hennegan a couple of times. Running sub 50 and nearly beating the Oly champ is AWESOME. Just ask the people behind them.
6) She's barely 20 years old.
7) She was racing the Oly Champ who no doubt would dictate the pace since everyone would run off her. The pace the Oly Champ set was 49.95 which is very fast for anyone (anytime) but especially in early June.
Also you said that "people were expecting more in this race."
What people?
Then you said that Tonique should be happy since she opened her season "beating the elite."
I think she beat the elite in every meet last year all the way to gold. I don't think she lost a race last season until after the Oly Games when got like 5th or 6th in a race that Guevara won. And if I remember correctly no one in that race went sub 50 either.
After watching that race today and seeing what I saw Sanya's camp has to be excited out of their minds. She's obviously still trying to manage her race. She made up the stagger on Amertil in like 10 steps. Then Tonique blew by her at 110m after Sanya had slowed noticeably apparently concerned that she had gotten to her mark too fast or something. Tonique being onher inside had a HUGE LEAD. Who (besides TrackDaddy :D ) would've believed that she could get back in that race?
She started sucking up Tonique coming off the last curve and into the home stretch like a young executive on a new job. ;)

But Sanya who holds multiple American Junior Records, will break the American record of 48.8. Tonique ran 49.0x last season and Guevara hit 48.8 a couple of years ago and they're 8-9 years older than Sanya. So is 2 time gold medalist Hennegan (who doesn't get enough credit for her accomplishments).
None of them were close to being as talented as Sanya is at the same age.
In fact, ONLY TWO people in WORLD history have been faster being this young.
Sanya had the Top 11 junior times in the world last year and she has the top 3 junior times in US History.
Her 49.89 run on pure heart last season makes her the 3RD FASTEST JUNIOR in WORLD HISTORY.
I think in due time (very soon I hope) 48.8x is going to fall like a ton of bricks.
Here's what TrackDaddy knows that most people don't about Sanya...she ain't like everybody else. She's...very, very special. It's hard to explain but there's something about Sanya that you practically never see in an athlete. And I'm not just speaking of the unusually abundant combination of speed and strength that she has that's probably the rarest among athletic gifts.
Now that alone is very unusual for teen to have to the degree she did. All of her Junior Records attest to that.
But there's way more to Sanya than even that. Her young mind is her biggest weapon. She's way ahead of the pace in that area too. I can only tell you that I know what I'm talking about and I've never seen anyone like her.
She'll be the BEST 400 METER RUNNER IN THE WORLD one day and th best in US History...you just watch.
I remember some things about Briscoe Hooks' physique but muscles aren't the first thing to come to mind.
But with Flojo yes.

She started sucking up Tonique coming off the last curve and into the home stretch like a young executive on a new job. ;)
I don't think my statement is as amazing as you make it sound. It is not as amazing as saying that 48.80 is coming soon! Would you have been amazed if Sanya had run 49.75 at the PRE meet in light of her already running 49.96 and 50.00 -- especially since she was running against Tonique? I doubt it.
I am sorry that I do not have names to give you regarding people who thought Sanya would faster than she did. That was my interpretation of this thread and those on Trackshark. Obviously, my interpretation was wrong. If her two biggest fans didn't expect her to improve her SB in this race, then why should I?

I agree that my 48.8 prediction is more amazing than your statement. But I'm not sure what that has to do with the price of these eggs.
You said "I was surprised that she only ran 49.98 in a losing effort."
What I got from that was that you were surprised that she "ONLY" ran 49.98 and that she "LOST" to Tonique by .03.
That's using the word "surprised" in a negative context as though those two things (49.98/2nd pl.) were non-positives.
I think  still applies.
Again...that's VERY, VERY FAST and ONLY .02 off her season best. It's also the 3rd fastest time she's ever run. I think her objective was to win considering the depth of this field...not worry about what her time would be.
Let me ask...when this field was announced and it was indicated that 6 of the 8 Oly finalist would be in this race...
You and "the people who were expecting more" thought Sanya would run 49.75 and win.
Right?
Personally my hopes for Sanya going into to this race with this great field was for her to challenge for the win...knowing that she will conquer the 400m world in due time. ;)
Did you see her closing on Tonique down the stretch? Had she made her move 3m earlier...she would have won.

I appreciate your comments. Don't be so sensitive and try to read too much into every word that I have written. (i.e., "only" and "lost"). There are far more important words than mine to analyze and study. The gist of my comments is that I thought Sanya would run her PB in this race. I felt that I had good reason to think this in light of what she had already run this year. Obviously I think that was a reasonable expectation despite your various objections you have stated.
I don't predict times because only God knows what a person is going to run and I surely do not. It's fun to predict, but nobody knows the future but Him. I expected Sanya to win at PRE because her training and the number of races she has run is further along than her stiffest international competion, Tonique and Ana. Tonique and Ana do not have to worry about qualifying for WC like Sanya and the other US runners. Sanya has to be ready to run in less than 3 weeks. Tonique and Ana have their eyes on August 6-13. Tonique is nowhere close to being where she will be in 4 to 6 weeks.
Sanya ran a very, very fast time. If she had more real estate she would have won. She is Ms. Grit, Superwoman, and all of that! So I will end on that positive note and go back to lurking.

Tonique Williams = Go GAMEC*CKS!!!!
Oh yeah, congrats for to Sanya for running an incredible race. In all honesty, I believe Ms. Richards has the ability to run 48 point. It can happen this year and may even happen at Worlds. That, however, does NOT mean that she will win. Please remember Williams does have Gamecock blood in her and as a result will step and run 48 low if she has to for the win.

48.80?? i don't know, that's like another planet and the only women to do that were pretty much ripped like arnold. 48.83 is valerie brisco hooks, right? flo jo obviously could have gotten that in 1988 when she anchored the 4x400m in sub 49. but sub-50 is a tremendous start--how many years had it been since american women were hammering 50-1-2 but never making the break down below 50?
48.09 (so 48.1) she anchored that team.
Very humble of Sanya. She knows that her day as champion is rapidly approaching (Oly & World that is).

The girl is a BEAST!!! and a major talent for anyone to pick up. This, IMO, makes Tx now a legit team to win the NCAA title next year. She should be no slower than 2:05 or so in the 800m and 53x in the 400m. She can run anything from the 200 up to the mile. Len Klepack is sure to have JD and Arianna McKinney filling that huge void that Tx has missed the last several years!

Coach Hart is not reknowned for his speed work although he coaches all events well. For the 400 his focus is mainly on strength and finishing.

That will ONLY be if she does not make top 4!!! With that said, I see no one being replaced on that team...DeDe will go sub 50.00 this yr, her training has just been pushed back for her to be able to peak at WC's. I agree. And with Henderson running 50.10...that team is beginning to shape up as all sub 50 open runners, which if one or two of them had a phenomenal day, could take a shot at the AR in the 4x4. Yes, it's fast and yes the WRs fast, but if you get in a championship race, push or not, they will drop fast splits.

TD when has lane 5 in a 200 not been a good lane?LOL...no Lane 5 is a great lane. But considering the world leader was in the race I think it would benefit anyone if they could see her before the straight. That's all I meant.
Sanya told me that she was more than happy with her performance in Mexico and very satisfied with her pr. She's confident that she belongs on the world class level and can compete with the best in the world.
My reply to that is: AT LEAST!!!! :D
She's so humble. A very gracious, spiritual person. Exactly the way she comes across in interviews.
One year she had scored like 180 points :D at a Big 12 meet and in the interview she all but refused to take any credit. The gentle smile on her face was there to be gracious to the interviewer and her teammates...not to show up her opponents.
That did it. She was the total package from head to toe and inside and out...one of the most amazing athletes (people period) I had ever seen or heard.
TrackDaddy knew he was in love. ;)
I remember when she ran against the elites in h.s. at Pre and set an AJR while beating Jearl Miles, Colander and Hennegan and finishing 2nd to Collins. When I saw how she handled the whole thing my first thought was that I would love to meet her parents. My second thought was that she's REALLY the best 400m runner in the US since I was no fan of Collins. I think she was like 17 y/o.
Okay...the way I see it is that her 200m time was blazing and she ran a pr. just .2 off Felix. I would love to see the race and the dynamics of how it played out.
BTW...Did Lauryn really run 23.49 in this race?
Is she okay?
Also, I agree that Henderson wasn't being pushed THAT MUCH by people but remember her goal this season was to set the NCAA mark which she did.
I think that fact and the fact that it was her collegiate finale...was more than a push. It was a shove.

Exactly. Lane 5 in almost all cases is preferred over lane 3, which makes Felix last two races in lane 3 even more impressive. I believe she has chosen to run on the inside of L. Williams in order to work on her curve. Despite what has been said earlier, there was a time when the curve was Felix' weakpoint. A little research would prove that point. But I think those days are over. The Olympics for the most part proved that.

Young Texans fuel youth movement in track
Williamson, Wariner, UT's Hooker can push veterans at U.S. meet
11:29 PM CDT on Saturday, June 18, 2005
Associated Press
Another wave of young talent has swept in to help wash away the steroid stains in U.S. track and field.
The youngsters, as yet untainted by the ugly underbelly of the sport, head to next week's national championships in Carson, Calif., welcoming the attention and confident they can compete with the old-timers.
Former Olympian Michael Conley, director of men's elite programs for USATF, said the young athletes who competed in Athens, and the ones who followed with standout performances this year, make up the best group of U.S. sprinters in the sport's history.
"Every so often you have a year or a time period where phenomenal athletes appear in every sport," Conley said. "I think that's happening right now in track and field. Right now, it's our time."
Young sprinters from the state of Texas are part of that elite group.
Darold Williamson, a Baylor senior, won the 400 in 44.27 at the NCAA championships last week, the fastest in the world this year. At the national championships, Williamson could challenge his friend and Baylor teammate, Olympic gold medalist Jeremy Wariner. In Athens, the 20-year-old Wariner led a U.S. sweep in the 400.
At the Drake Relays on May 1, Williamson edged Wariner in the stretch to win with a time of 45.24. Wariner was second in 45.42.
Earlier this month, Wariner ran 45.58 seconds at a meet in the Czech Republic. He ran 44.53 in May at the adidas Track Classic in Carson, Calif.
For the women, Marshevet Hooker, a 20-year-old Texas sophomore, won the NCAA's 100, was second in the long jump and anchored the winning 400-meter relay team.
Former Longhorn sprinter Sanya Richards, 20, has the second-fastest qualifying time in the women's 400 with a time of 49.96.
Craig Masback, executive director of USA Track and Field, is eager to shift attention to the performances and personalities of the sport's new stars.
"We've just had, in some views, the greatest NCAAs ever in terms of performances, in terms of great athletes demonstrating their abilities under tremendous pressure," Masback said.
Other youngsters who are expected to challenge the veterans next week:
–Wallace Spearmon, a 20-year-old sophomore at Arkansas, won the 200 in a world-leading 19.91 seconds at the NCAAs, then turned pro and signed with Nike.
–LaShawn Merritt, who turns 19 on June 27, left East Carolina in the middle of his freshman year to run for money. Only Williamson and Wariner have run faster than Merritt's 44.66 in the 400.
–Kerron Clement, 19, broke Michael Johnson's decade-old world indoor 400 record at the NCAA championships in March and won the NCAA 400 hurdles for Florida last week in a world-leading 47.56.
–Walter Dix, a 19-year-old freshman at Florida State, has the third-fastest American time in the 100 at 10.06.
–Xavier Carter, a 19-year-old LSU freshman, has the world's fourth-fastest 200 this year at 20.02.
The USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships are Thursday-Sunday in Carson, Calif.

"For once, Hart will even be cheering for a Texas Longhorn, or at least a former Longhorn. Sanya Richards, who currently has the world's No. 2 400 time at 49.96, has been training under Hart since last fall and the coach said she has the potential to do for the women's 400 what Michael Johnson did for the men.
“Sanya is as good an American lady as there is right now, and we feel like she's about to put it all together,” Hart said. “With her, when she came to me, I just didn't want to mess her up. She's a real talent. She just needed to get a little more consistent to reach that next level.”

There's still some running to be done before World's and remember...Hennegan had the fastest US time last season (49.56) and was the top US Oly finalist.
Right now I think it would be hard to argue against Demus who split 50.01 at Penn in the rain and who has the 2nd fastest 400h in the world.
But Hennegan, being the veteran of two Oly games...aint dead yet.

That's good to hear, because she is still finding her way! So many athletes lose hope quickly if they don't make a big splash right after college. I'm glad she is sticking to it. By the way, do you know who is training Suziann?, she is in very good shape these days.
Next, do you know if Licretia Sibley (Texas Tech) will be running on the post college circuit (She was one I thought would get to the 50-51 make by her senior year.)

Controversial I know, but you're not under suspicion it seems unless you're winning.
Licretia told me in January at a meet that she has a chronic condition in her feet. I think it's arthritis or tendonitis. I had just asked her about post collegiate competition and she said she didn't know and then mentioned her feet. Plus, I don't think her heart is really in it. This season wasn't her best and I heard she was ready for it to end. She's known for being a natural who never had to real hard in the off season.

The problem here is that the schedule will prove tough for Demus. Prior to the 4x4 heats, she will need to step up for the 4H finals (races: 10th, 11th, 13th). And given that Hennegan should be fresh (a case very similar to Henderson last summer), she might be the better choice for both days (13th, 14th).

What has she done for us LATELY is the name of the game. And they can work with what they got since Demus already made the team in an open event. Robinson has qualified to run in the relay POOL, not on the final squad. She can run with the best of them, believe it (as you know).

INDIANAPOLIS - Two-time U.S. champion Sanya Richards has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after posting consecutive victories last week on the European circuit.
Already the world leader this year in the women's 400 meters, Richards' first win last week came on Tuesday when she handed 2004 Olympic gold medalist Tonique Darling of the Bahamas her first loss of the season in Lausanne, Switzerland. The 20-year-old Olympic and world championships 4x400m gold medalist pulled away in the final 100 meters to win in 49.96 seconds, with Darling the runner-up in 50.14.
Richards followed that performance with a win Friday over a strong field at the Golden Gala in Rome that included reigning world champion Ana Guevara of Mexico. Richards cruised across the finish line in 49.82 seconds, well ahead of Guevara, who was the runner-up in 50.62.
Another impressive performance was turned in last week by reigning U.S. champion Daniel Lincoln, who finished the men's 3,000m steeplechase at Rome in 8 minutes, 12.65 seconds in becoming the #3 all-time U.S. performer in that event. Also in Rome, former Stanford great Lauren Fleshman crossed the finish line in 15:02.52 to become the #8 all-time U.S. performer in the women's 5,000 meters and achieve the IAAF "A" standard for the World Championships.
Now in its fifth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and

Johnson, Hayes, Perry & Richards press conference excerpts from Helsinki
08-05-2005
A Team USA press conference was held Friday in advance of the 2005 World Outdoor Track & Field Championships, August 6-14 in Helsinki, Finland. Athletes participating in the press conference included 2004 Olympic gold medalist and four-time world outdoor 110m hurdle champion Allen Johnson, 2004 Olympic 100m hurdles gold medalist Joanna Hayes, 2005 USA Outdoor 100m hurdles champion Michelle Perry, who owns four of the top-five times in the world this year, and 2005 Visa Championship Series women's champion and 2005 Olympic 4x400m relay gold medalist Sanya Richards, who posted the fastest time in the world this year of 49.28 seconds in winning the 2005 USA Outdoor title.
Excerpts from Friday's press conference follow.
Sanya Richards
Q: Last year, you finished sixth at the Olympics Games. I know you're anxious to do better this year. What are the chances of seeing you on the podium?
A: I believe they are very high. I want it so much. My preparation for the meet has been very good. I showed that at the U.S. Nationals. I'm really confident and I'm really excited. At the Olympics I got sixth and I was so disappointed, because I knew I could have run better. I wish I could have run better. Now I'm coming out here to take care of business. I'm going to do my best and hopefully stand on the top of the podium.
Q: That belief that you could have done better, is that a pebble in your shoe for this year?
A: Oh yes. At the World Championships in 2003, I didn't make it to the finals and last year at the Olympics, I finished sixth. I'm definitely progressing. This year, hopefully I would be able to win the finals. That's my motivation all year. Every day I think about that in practice. I think about what it takes to beat them.
Q: A lot has been made of the youth on the team, but that youth now has a lot of experience. What does that mean to you?
A: I think it's very important. I'm happy that I was at the World Championships and the Olympics last year because it's a whole different story. I remember Allen telling me that my first year it takes time to adjust. I was like, 'What's the big deal about being in Europe?' I thought it was the same as being in the United States. There's a big difference with the time adjustment. I'm happy that I had the experience. Now that I'm prepared to run fast, I think it will come in handy for me.
Q: How did winning the 4x400 (at the Olympics) take away the sting from finishing sixth in the 400?
A: I really enjoyed being a part of the team, and bringing home a gold medal for the United States. But nothing takes the place of individual success. You train by yourself every day. We come together and form a team here. I was really excited about the gold for the 4x400. I really want to have a medal in the 400 this year to get over the Olympics.
Q: What was behind your change to Clyde Hart as your coach?
A: I think it's been an excellent transition. It was a very tough decision, but Coach Hart has been proven in the 400, and I figured that if I wanted to be the best quarter-miler that I needed to hook up with the best coach. The changes have been great. He's an excellent coach and I'm running a lot more comfortable, and I'm running almost exactly the same every time, so it's been a great change for me and I'm excited about my progress.
Well, in less than 10 hours the quest for Ms. Richards will begin. Her interview on Eurosport leads me to believe she will be a major task order for Williams-Darling. If her fitness actually exceeds the '49.28', what are we in store for on Wednesday?
I guess I need to go back a few posts to register those sub-49 predictions!
BTW, it is nice to see our 400 ladies getting some decent lanes to "cut loose" with. ;)
Good opening rounds for Sanya and De'Hashia. Totally in control and exhibited the lift that goes with good speed recruitment and response.
Besides Guevara and Darling, it would appear that the russians are "game for the action". Those that expected the russian women to show up in Helsinki may be getting their wish!

Check out the quote:
Twenty-year-old American Sanya Richards won her 400 semifinal heat in 50.05 to set up her showdown with Tonique Williams-Darling of the Bahamas in Wednesday's final. Williams-Darling was the fastest qualifier at 49.69.
"I'm not shocked she ran that fast," Richards said. "But it's going to be a tough one for her, because I plan on bringing it."

Reaction isn't necessarily a major factor in the 400m. Yes, it can help, but it isn't a necessity. Besides, she likes to run from behind anyway. I think all three of the U.S. women will go under 50 again.

Sanya may need to bring it BUT DEEDEE TROTTER will win this one in 48.7. Tonique is in lane 6 and Trotter is in lane 7. Tonique is a fast starter and Deedeed is a fast finisher. If Deedee stays on tonique thru 200, IT'S A WRAP!!!!! Sanya may bring it, but Trotter has already brought it!!! She has proven the doubters wrong time and time again, this will not be any different.

Go Sanya!Hi TF. How's it going with you and yours. I hope the rest of the folks out here in Dyestaland understand that Ms. Sanya Richards is the real deal. You, Ronnie Moore, TD, and myself know. Just have to keep re-educating the non-believers. Anyway, I'll be on Dyestat just to keep folks aware about how great this young lady is not only as an athlete, but as a person. Great things come to those who are prepared and as far as I can tell Ms. Sanya Richards is totally PREPARED.. :D

He's right, Sanya. You know there's nothing but love for you here.
And I know that you're a perfectionist so I'm sure you're disappointed. But honestly, you've had one of the most phenomenal 400m seasons in U.S. history.
And you're only 20.
Being a world silver medalist ain't nothing to sneeze at.
You are the best 400m runner in the world (sans this one race) in the minds of many. And you have been the best in the world this season leading up to WC's in the minds of all.
Just look how the gap has closed since this time last year. ;)
As I've said for a long time...you are destined for greatness.
Ronnie and I truly, truly believe in you.
Your hard work has and is paying off.
Thank God for the opportunity and the ability to compete against the world and then...

As I was driving I said..."hmm...who can I call for WC (Sanya :D ) info...?"
Your name immediately popped into my head.
When you called back I couldn't answer since I really couldn't hear. I bought a practically mint 1973 Olds Cutlass Supreme from a couple in Cleveland and I flew up there to get it and drove back.
It doesn't have AC (yet) so the windows were down. I was surrounded by 18 wheelers for 1,200+ miles so all I could do was text message you.
Thanks again, friend. My heart was with my girl in Helsinki but my phone browser wouldn't connect for results.
I guess that technology isn't available passing through Florence, Kentucky. :D
