Wow the record was 10:30 so I'm guessing they ran in the high 10:20's thats quick. They should be done there this spring

Something big?
C'mon - they ran a nice race, but nothing great. A nice race for Harvard, but you need a big stud anchor to be able to run "something big." They other guys ran solid to good races. And Jackson still beat them by 12 seconds.
CBA doesn't have the depth of past teams this year, and group IV is very strong on top of that. The Colts will run hard, but I think they'll be a bit overmatched in the big races.

10:25 for the DMR .
Something tells me I'm gonna have to change that whole, "Ocean Cty DMR record" thing soon in my signature...its ok, at least we still took the Shuttle Hurdle record away from Jackson :D
Congrats tho on a good run by Jackson.
A shame though for TRN and TRE...first meets of the year being State Relays. Way to give the kids a chance.

Even with Lombardi as the anchor they wouldn't have come close to Jackson.
Obviously a weak year for CBA.

I was there and really enjoyed myself. It was great to see alot of my friends race and watch some of the top competitors in my group. The track itself wasn't as bad as I heard it would be. However, the corners were extremely tight. I loved the seating.I wish I could've competed but my coach scratched it for us.

why no forys or ciambriello?
according to lambert's story in the ledger, forys had a twinge in his leg and was held out for precautionary reasons.
don't know about ciambriello.

Bond was already mentioned... but I believe that record is wrong. I'm pretty sure Montclair had a 14'3" relay, not 13'3" one. They had two 7' guys.

don't know about ciambriello.
The twinge was actually more in the butt area, but my paper doesn't allow that word to be used in print unless someone gets shot there.
I am serious, the only time butt or buttocks (that is such a cool word) ever sees the light of day is when a bullet is involved.
Here is something that got cut out of my story:
The Forys twinge is not serious and there's a good chance he will be running this weekend at the Lavino Relays in Lawrenceville.

Montclair did have two 7-0 jumpers, but not in the same year.
The late eric taylor perry made 7-2 indoors in 1990. Five years later, Derrick Ponton of montclair made 7-2 indoors.

I will find out about ciambriello.
Also, James Grimes of chatham didn't compete because he was on a church retreat.

I believe Ciambriello ran at Malloy Stanner. 4:32-35ish in unseeded mile

What about a knife? If Newark is anything like Baltimore, I would imagine the knife is a pretty popular weapon.

Funny that you should bring that up. When I lived in Baltimore in the mid '80's we would joke that the local news lead would be something like
"Peace in The Middle East, But First...A Stabbing in Fells Point"

NewarK? Gets more scary every day. We just altered our noontime running route because the place where the two kids were shot last week is on the old route, literally a few dozen feet off the walk.
I recall having a "disussion" with Kniteryder on here a little ways back and he insisted Newark wasn't so bad.

Get 'em SPIVE!!!! (longtime Montclair coach, who in his day was an amazing hurdler. I think he was honorable mention for the 1950s in the Ledger's Century report). I love it when Montclair is mentioned in these threads.
To step into the present day regarding Montclair track and field, I was out at the venerable Woodman Field two weeks ago (just after reading Mr. Lambert's story about Meghan Morris) and Spive brought up a great point about her. She already has a head start on the Barbers, because they only started running their sophomore years in HS.... Should be interesting to see how she progresses, she works really hard in practice.
GO MOUNTIES!!!

But he was right...it WASN'T so bad. Cory's record on crime is not looking so good in it's early stages.

I've been working here for 10 years now and one thing I can tell you is that it has been bad that whole time and for far longer according to the long timers here. You know as well as anyone that politicians can make statistics talk, but the place has not been safe for a long, long time. I strongly doubt that the violence has increased because Booker was elected (a very good thing from my perspective), just as I doubt that the measured crime rate was lower due to James.
He wasn't right. The folks who have been working here since the 60s will tell you lots of stories about when it was good and it hasn't been for decades. You know that - you were here too, although you probably didn't have much occasion to go up the hill.

I don't think I actually said(or meant) it isn't so bad...what I was stating is that the new mayor has been cracking down on the issue they've had with the gang-related violence that has sprung up in the last 5 yrs or so...It is a work in progress and will take some time as the community itself is going to have to realize they they need to take part in "cleaning the streets"...
Newark had gotte nbad for a few reasons that I don't care to go into and make a long discussion about, but I am glad to see new blood in office for the mayorship and hopefully some good changes are coming in the next 2-5 yrs!
