i wonder if the air type has anything to do with it, since the air is thinner there than in CT

Now that's a heave, I saw a kid by the name of Ryan Sherwood throw one 229 a few years ago, it was one of the most amazing things I'd ever seen.
Chad Radgowski from PA has thrown 211 and says he is ready for 220 at the state meet next week but we'll see.

yea that's a hell of a throw....Petronoff's been working with him some from what i understand. Maloney's going to be one hell of a pickup for Oregon.
Also heard Petronoff has been working with Feury (dartmouth) and Pisano (uconn grad), and another guy i can't remember off my head. Interesting to see how far they throw this year.

Especailly with the new Jav...i remember Feury throwing 227 in 2000....but that was with the old HS specs i believe. They changed to the new ones in 2001 was it? So is this a national record?

It's not a national record, but it's close. It's 3rd on the all-time list using the current javelin (dating back 3-4 years). It was an impressive toss. He hit his first 2 throws almost perfectly. I'll be curious to see if Petranoff can squeeze much more out of him.
On a seperate note, it would be nice if they'd start listing seperate records for the javelin at high school meets to take into account the evolution of the implement over the years.

I dug these up from the Adidas Golden West Invitiational meet records
1966 Roger Collins, Livingston, NJ 242-10
1969 Jim Pearce, Shawnee Mission, KS 242-1
1974 Frank Perbeck, Manhattan, KS 237-9
1981 Dale Pederson, Newberg, OR 235-3
1980 Steve Stockton, Tioga, LA 235-3
1993 Darby Roberts, Hill City, KS 231-9
These are the three best throws i've heard of prior to those other ones.
Art Skipper Jr (Sandy) 259'10 (88)
Jack Hall (Pulaski/New Britain) 237'4 (70)
Mathew Maloney (LaSalle) 231'5 (05)
