Hey, i was just wondering what everybody's pr in long and triple jump is, together. I know some people can LJ 22 feet but can only TJ 41 or so. I am curious

I only did lj once during decathalon, fouled 2 jumps, so my 1 jump this season was 19'11". My tj pr is 43'5", but I do that all the time.

Until this year I was one of those people that could jump 20' off both feet but not break 40' in the triple jump.

LJ PR didn't improve this year, as my hamstring was too hurt to jump, so my PR is 20'3.5" the summer before my senior year at Bay State Games.
TJ went from 38'5" to 40'11".
My ratio is slightly better than 2:1, though I know my LJ could easily be a foot better than that. I'm gonna try to hop into an open meet once my hammy is fixed and hit that 21' mark.

When someone is a good long jumper and good triple jumper form wise.. the ratio should always be greater than 2:1, but not by much... mine works out pretty much right... although i am built more for triple jump, making my tj distance slightly farther proportionally

lj 19'11.5"
tj 41'5"

other people i know of:

lj 20'10"
tj 44'

lj 21'
tj 41'5" (has very small middle phase, should be going farther)

lj 19' high
tj 41'4"

lj 19' low
tj 41'9"

lj 20'6"
tj 40' (first phase is WAY too high.. loses all momentum.. should be going much much farther imho)

lj 23'
tj 48'

lj 19'6
tj 40'7"

lj 22'10"
tj 45'6"

lj 21'7"
tj 43'

these are just a few ratios from the people in my section.. i picked the better people, because they are the ones that have the form down.. until you have the form down pat in each jumping event, these ratios mean nothing to you.

Sounds like me, no matter what I do, I keep jumping much too high on my first phase. Though my second phase is pretty good in itself (I guess when I went 40'11" Mansfield had me at 16-12-13), but I'm still in that long jump mode where I want to go 20' on my first phase and let the rest fall into place.

I was wondering because my PR in LJ is 21-1.25, and that was my only 21 foot jump. My PR in TJ, on the other hand, is 46-3. I was just checking to see if anybody elses ratio was way off.

i really dont think that is too far off... just means that you are a better tj'r

i am too really.. my pr in triple is far below what i am capable of.. 41'5", where im thinking a 43' jump is not far off.. this monday at NYS Empire trials, im lookin to get that.. as far as long jump, my 19'11.5" is definatly my best effort.. over 20' for me isnt happening soon, unless i get a PERFECT jump.. so for me, the real ratio is probably like 20', 43'.. which is pretty close to yours

the long jump and tripl ejump shud b similar in ratios such as 2:1. But i du both and ive been around sum excellent jumpers, there are plenty jumpers that can go 24 but only 44 or so in triple do to practice. Im goin bout 48 in the triple and 23 8 in long. Once again tho the long jump is bout speed not necessarily technique as opposed to the triple. most of the gud triple jumpers hava a decent to gud long jump tho, puttin them at a ratio of about 2:1

you pretty much said it: what makes the ratios different for people is this:

long jump is 90% about speed and jumping height ability, and only 10% form

triple jump is about *pulling this out of his ass*.. 60% speed and jumping height and 40% form. The speed is still the essential, but without at least some form in triple jump, you arent going anywhere.

I just thought of this also: the triple jump world record is over 60'.. the long jump world record, Bowmans.. which i believe is unofficial? is only 29' mid.. making it slightly more than a 2:1 ratio

i think a combo of the two things i just pointed out is pretty much the answer to the ratio question. :)
