Yeah... I signed up while I was taking a break from dyestat over Lent.
It should be sweet doing a time trial on the Thetford XC course. It doesn't look like they got any decent guests to come, but the team staff looks knowledgeable and thorough with training (up to 3 sessions a day).
If anybody has been to this camp before, can you please post how it was?

we'll need to get a dyestat group together when we get there. we should make some kind of sign. like standing up and farting during the introduction ceremony or killing someone. anyone who is from dyestat will recognize theyre comrades

To anyone who's been before: is it a good camp?

i've gone for 3 years. all of which were just as good as the others. the camp isn't one of the larger camps size wise, but this is good in the sense that everyone is able to be put in a group that sets them( 6 groups usually) 1st group being the better runners. they also have good guest speakers who give advice and you get to ask them questions when their presentation is done. the camp also lets you rome around during free time. you get to walk around the town when ever you want. living spaces are pretty cool. if you go with a friend they will put you in the same room or at least on the same floor. the camp gets its own building which is for all the runners. food is pretty decent at times too. all you can eat. i recomed it over green mountian which has way to many campers which i guess can be good and bad at times.

For the most part, no. Read below for elaboration.

Much of what you say is true. This camp is very cool because there are VERY few restrictions, the food is great, and the kids there are pretty cool. There are also really good guest speakers.
However, I would NOT reccomend anybody go to this camp because of the training that they put you through. The day to day workouts are essentially very impractical and too strenuous for that time in most peoples training plans. Its not to say that the camp is "too hard" and that the workouts are "killer", because they are very doable. However, the camp takes place in Late July/Early August, and they're having you do multiple hard days in 5 days time that most kids arent used to. For instance, if you start summer running the final week of June, are you going to want to (in essence) do 3 workouts in 5 days a month later while bumping your mileage? I think not. This camp's unnecessarily high intensity contributed to an injury I came down with the week after returning (I had to take off 10 days from running). Just for concrete PROOF, here's the EXACT day to day workouts from group 2 last summer:
7/29/2007- 7 miles on a hilly course (roller coaster)... not bad! A decently good run that I would normally do in the summer.
7/30/2007- 2 mile shakeout run at awakening... no big deal... 3 mile warm up, fartlek workout of 6x 1 minute hard, 1 minute easy running on hilly course... at 95% effort... much of the group did not take the "easy" part easy, and continued to tempo the rest... 4 mile cooldown. 11 miles on the day. This was a good workout and surely required a recovery day the next day.
7/31/2007- 2 mile shakeout run at awakening.... not a big deal.... 4 mile warm up, 6-8 x400m hill workout @ 75 seconds... 4 mile cooldown.... Okay This is a bit ridiculous, doing 2 challenging workouts back to back in JULY... but whatever, I'm not really complaining... 13 miles on the day
8/1/2007- 2 mile shakeout run at awakening.... no biggee.... then a chill 7 mile run that most people chose to (yet again) hammer... while some other guys took a chill recovery day.... 9 mile day
8/2/2007- 2 mile warm up, 2.75 mile Time Trail at Thetford XC Course, 2 mile cooldown.... by this point in the week, absolutely everyone was totally spent, and most of the people who were hammering earlier didn't even try and ran the time trial as an easy run (because they needed it)... I treated it as a "tempo" and still only managed 6:20 pace (its mad hilly though)... 2 mile cooldown.... 7 on the day
So hey, if you're already conditioned and in really good workout shape, knock yourself out and go to Gold Medal XC camp... Frankly, you'll love the food and the freedom and the cool guest speakers.... But if you're like most of us HS runners and you're just getting in base in July and not trying to PEAK FOR THE FIRST WEEK OF SEPTEMBER, then maybe you should go to camp later in the summer, and avoid doing unnecessary workouts that could wear you out or get you injured. Thats my rant.
