I worked at this camp for the first time this past summer. The camp was so awesome! The kids all loved it big time! It was moved to a new location this past summer and will continue at the new site.
What do they got?
They had two world class athletes there not only to speak but hang out with the campers for several days on our runs, meals, activities, etc... It was so cool to hang out with one of the fastest milers ever (Mark Carroll-3:50 mile/7:30 3k) like he was just another runner.
This year the camp will be even better from what I am hearing...Hopefully we'll hear soon who the guest will be for this August....also there is a great deal for elite runners (potential Footlocker runners). I don't have the details on this stuff but I hear Big John will announce big news soon!!!!
This camp is really for every runner and you get tons of free time and many cool people to hang with from all over the Northeast.
Check out the website (check out the photo link for action shots--- "counselors in action" has some shots of Mark--white polo shirt- and his wife Amy Rudolph working with the campers plus tons of cool shots from the lake) :
http://bluemountainxccamp.com/
The lake is the hot spot to be during free time. Basketball, soccer, "Iron man" competition, "tin man relay", many tournaments in Volleyball, ping pong, etc...plus tons of give-aways....

I was there last year and had a blast in group 5. Lots of fun meeting other runners, and chilling with a few of my teammates that tagged along. That hill we ran up on thursday I believe was brutal. I was one of only 2 people plus our counselor in group 5 to make it to the top. It was truly a great experience that I will never forget, and definitely plan on going back this summer!

News from Blue Mountain website (check my sig for link)
"Blue Mountain has produced many Footlocker National Qualifiers in the past and we are introducing an incentive in 2007. Campers who register and attend the full week of camp and go on to qualify for Footlocker Nationals will earn airfare for his/her coach to attend the championship race in San Diego. Flights will originate from major airports".
This camp is very fun and now they have a big incentive for elite runners to go. I have seen many camps at $450.00-500.00 for 4-5 days and this camp is only $390.00 for 6 days.
Not only can elite runners who attend this camp earn their coach a free ride to San Diego but they will have tons of fun and they always have great guest speakers.
Tons of fun, free time and great price!

There are SO many people that go. So don't worry about having no body show up. But even with the amount of people it in a way doesn't feel that croweded.
The runs differ...there are about 15ish groups...each group being sorted into their fastest 5K time or where they feel comf. The morning run is usually the 'long run' and in the afternoon is either a core workout or some sort of uptemp deal. [one day my group played ultimate so don't worry about it being constant hard running] Basically all the runs are on trails or dirt roads...but one day we ran up this massive hill for a workout.
The food..is AMAZING. It seems all you do in the spare time is eat so don't worry about that. There is always a salad bar with the main course. For breakfast they have lots of cereal and fruit with the main meal too.
You will deff. meet other people from everywhere...no doubt about that. You get close with the people in your cabin and in your running group. Some schools though, I know that with the people on my team kind of stuck together throughout the week...but it's interesting too to see how other teams work.
Sorry about you not being able to go with your team...but Blue Mountain is a lot of fun and deff. worth it!

Yes a lot of kids from our section do go. RH and Byron sent a lot of kids last year and there was many other section Vers from other schools as well. I expect RH to send their kids again and I think Alexander is sending their team (their coach works at BM). Arcadia, Athena, Churchville and others have sent kids there in the recent past.
The best part of the camp though is meeting other people because the camp is made up of kids from NY, PA, NJ and the New England states.

It seemed the majority of the people were from Section V, but there still was a lot of people from all over the place. It was fun to see people who are usually you are racing against turn into training partners...and to then see them later throughout the year in xc/indoor/outdoor.

You've never run a 5k before? Well I'd say that when you get to camp, run with the 18:00-18:30 group. And if it feels too hard/easy, you can always move up/down the next day. I started last yr in the 18:30-19:00 group on day 1, thought it was too slow, so moved up to 18:00-18:30 and stayed there.

Check out the #1 seeds in the NYS meet for girls long distance.
Brittany S. (Bellport) is seeded #1 in 1500 and she was a 5 time Blue Mountain camper.
Nicole Rozario (Pine Bush) is the seeded #1 in the 2k steeple and she is a Blue Mountain alumni.
That is Blue Mountain Alumni seeded first in 2 of 3 long distance races in NYS (the toughest girls comp in the USA).

I went to Hilton and did some volunteer coaching there but I am not a paid coach there. There team goes to the OTC camp because many of the local teams have a tight connection with that camp (coaches work or worked there).
Hilton's former coach and current coach have worked at that camp and the current coach at Hilton was a runner for the guy who runs the OTC so they go there. It is the "section V" camp although many section Vers go to BM too.
both camps are good but very different.

Camp this year has been amazing so far, the food is great and jim ryun is coming today, sweeet. Theres tons of prizes to win all the time, everyone gets to now each other and the councelors are top notch. Molly huddle is one of them. The only bad thing is the heat, but getting out early is good and we all keep cool. Everyone in the country should be at this camp next year, its a great time.

I love blue mt. so far. Theres so much to do here. swimming, ga-ga, games, fun activities everyday, so many other things too. I'm never bored here. Theres so many experienced and talanted runners here. Ive learned many things that I would not have other wise known. Molly Huddle is here and Kurt Bennerger (from Notre Dame, 13:33 5k runner) as counclers. Jim Ryun is coming this afternoon and i'm very excited. I strongly recommend this camp for evey high school runner that wants to become better. Come to blue mt.

This is my first year at camp. So far, this has been a great time. Everything has been what I was looking for in a camp in more. The Staff, especially Big John, has been dedicated to you having the most fun. There is so much to do outside of running to keep you busy. When it comes to running, the group leaders are some of the best.
Kurt Benninger a 3:58 miler and Molly Huddle (a Saucony Sponsored Runner) are just some of the great people that work here. I recommend this camp to anybody and everybody.

Blue Mountain has been AMAZING!! I'm a first time camper here and i already love it. i came alone, being the only one here from my team, and i have already made new friends. the food is great, and the kids and counselors are even better. there are elite runners here as counselors (one being the women's full 2 mile national record holder, who i ran my workout with yesterday. it's crazy.) theres also other fun stuff to do other than running, like a full out snack bar and a fun variation of dodgeball called GAGA. well, i'm out dyestat, see you in a week.

Also, as a first timer at Blue Mountain, the program is run very well. Never a dull moment. There is ALWAYS something to do if you you want to, but also enough free time to chill out if you need some quiet time or a quick nap.

that sounds pretty cool. I guess both camps get some really great guests. Blue Mountain has had Amy Rudolph, Mark Carroll, JIM RYUN, Molly Huddle and Kurt over the past 2 years so pretty amazing people to meet at both camps. The thing I love about Blue Mountain is the free time for the kids. You run twice a day and have a PM session but still have tons of free time each day.
This year there were 16 teams in a volleyball tourney, ultimate frisbee tourney had 5-6 teams, and several other tournaments plus the very popular tin man and Iron man comps.
The best night was the dance night with professional DJ.....the kids had a lot of fun that night.
