So, who?

How fast do you think the winner will run?

Barnicle in 8:47.

Wow ... was that 2 serious replies?

I dunno who, it'll be tough to call... too many good options.

Bumbi, Barni, Barnes, Ghebray, Matusak ... maybe Cormier. Winner under 8:50, but not by much. I'll say 8:48.

i think if it's off a slow pace cormier has proved twice at nationals (xc and indoor) that he has a superior kick..so if the race is at 8:55ish i think he'll take it
but if bumbi takes it out i think he's the best 2-miler and could win it if the pace is fast enough...anything under 8:50 i think bumbi will win..but barnicle will be right there too so you can't count him out

You cannot honestly think that the first 2 replies were serious, right?

Bumbalough in 8:54, at the fastest.

Oh yeah!

Gotta say Bumbalough in 8.40-8.45

think about it

he ran junior year 14.57 at FLS and 8.49 at Arcadia >granted his biggest imporvement was from xc to track junior year, but still
he ran senior year 14.32 at FLS and what should be an awesome deuce at NON

thiknk about a twenty five second 5K improvement on same course in one year

this should mean a 10-15 second PR in the deuce, logically

i dont think hell be under 8.40 but in good conditions i think an 8.40-8.45 is possible

Logically??? Well, he ran 8:49 last year...a 15 second improvement from that would be 8:34. Logically???

That arguement might almost hold water, but he's been hurt, so it definitely doesnt. I still think he can win though. 8:54.

It might very well be. It's hard to tell in championship meets.

is macnamara still alive? maybe if he didn't pull a freakin' whodini we might be able to include him in a prediction

yes , there are more runners than two in that race, but bumb and barn are heads and shoulders above the rest......and they are the only two logical picks to win the 2-mile (nothing against dudes like cormier and matuzak who are obviously running great)

runnerdude
04-14-2005, 11:22 PM
There are so many guys who can win it

Bumbi, Cormier, Barnicle should be your top three choices right now

Other contenders
Scotty Mac, Leaf Barnes if he runs it I was impressed with his run at Arcadia, Andy Blaideu, AJ Acosta, Daniel LaCava
And two people who I think you should watch out for: Tim Mcleod AZ, and Michael Chapa VA could suprise us all
Tim is running the 5k at Mt SAC this weekend, look for sub 14:30 range

Well, Mac ran a sub-2 leg of the 4X8 relay (which they won easily), then ran a 9:18 3200 15 minutes later. He followed that up with a 4:14 1600 a few hours later. It was a nice triple considering he won all three races and wasn't really pushed. So I guess you could say he's alive. The University of Michigan thinks so.

thanks man....i figured someone would respond and pull out the updated macnamara stats! i guess it would be nice to hear a little more about the smaller meets with the big name dudes running in them. do you know if he will be running in the national 2-mile race in june?

I agree that Bumbalough and Barnicle IMO are the class A 2 milers in the country right now. I give the edge to Bumbalough. But In the option "other" I believe the only one that will make a race against them is Cormier. Im still not convinced that anyone will break 8:50 this year IMO. Could be wrong though, we will wait and see! I would love to see it!

bumbaloug in the 8:45-8:48 range i believe. im voting for him solely on the fact that suprised me when he won the mile against cormier, barnes etc.

Well when about 70% of people think one of those two runners listed will win, I didn't find it necessary to list anyone else. So go vote other, post who you think will win, and get on with your life.

I bet it ends up being just like in 2002 whenever Solinsky, Moore, and Lockhart were in the duece. Everyone thought they were gonna run a blazing time since it had the top three Footlocker placers in it and Solinsky had just run 8:48 out at Arcadia. But it went out slow and everyone kicked for an 8:59, but Lockhart ended up winning. I don't think anybody but Bumbalough, Cormier, or Barnicle will win but it will not be anywhere near 8:45 like people are saying. It'll be exactly like 2002 and the winner will be 8:59-9:01.

has Cormier run a faster 2mile than what he ran at indoor nationals yet? If he hasnt, isnt his best still 9:11ish or something?

He won't win.

Achilles
04-17-2005, 04:19 PM
cormier hasnt run the 2 mile fresh. he is at least low 9 minutes, at nin and arcadia he ran the mile not much before the 2 mile. i would give him a 9 flat fresh, i dont see why not.

i highly highly doubt that the race will be 8:59. even if it goes out in 4:40 (never gonna happen) it will be under 8:59. barnicle ran 4:20 closing miles off of a 4:30 LAST year.

barnicle will make his move relatively early, it wont b a last lap sprint. barnicle i cant see waiting to go anywhere after 800 to go. 1200 to go barnicle i think.

solinsky was also doubling that year, he COULD have been trying to run as slow as possibly to win that 2 mile thinking he could no matter what.

im not gonna predict 8:42 like some people but christina wagner won it in 8:53 2 years ago and i think this year will be faster. bumbalough in 8:47 and barnicle runs 8:48

i agree to an extent...i dont think bumbi will let it go out slow, he doesn't seem like he's scared to lead - if it's 8:55+ i think cormier will win, anything lower i'd say bumbi with barnicle right there too

Cormier will probably win because Barnicle and Bumbalough both think they are better than him naturally (which they are) and will try to lead the whole race.

If Bumbalough had eased off just a LITTLE in the first two miles of FL, he would have won, but instead Cormier came from behind. I see it happening again.

It looks as though Chris Rombough will be ready to make some noise this summer. 9:10 at elevation, good for 8:58 equivalent I guess... he has a pretty good shot at breaking 9 I'd say then later on this season.

Matt

Rombough's got a decent chance. Last year he was hurt because of hockey so he didn't really lay down any amazing times. This year has already been great for him though.

bumbi didn't need to back off...he just was sick at the wrong time and didn't show his real speed/kick/ability. cormier is the champ though.
