I'm looking for a new pair of spikes and have narrowed my choices down to either the Brooks F1s, Reebok JW Fosters or Adidas Demolishers (though Nikes are never out of the question). Which do you people favor?

It might help that I'm 5'10", 155 lbs with a lot of speed in later portions of the race and a somewhat upright stride.

It helps to know what you run.

Mostly 400, but I run the 200 and relays as well.

Price and what I've heard from others about them. Thanks for the info on Maxcats though.

Maxcats

I wore maxcats for my 600 and 800 indoors last year. its just that they hurt to run in them for very long.

I vote is for super shifts. Not the new ones but the red and black or the black/blue/yellow ones from two years ago. I personally love the ones from four or five years ago yellow/black/orange, the ones that bennie brazell will still only wear.

A lot of the guys on our team wear the G5's, but i wold say that they are too heavy fof you. Don't get the superfly's-the ones that spearmon wears with the little shock in the heel, those are just stupid.

I use monster flys for my 400 and it gives me great support.. Very good shoe. Also very Ideal for 100 and 200.. Most comfortable and supportive shoe Ive ever wore, it also has great traction. Worth every penny

personally the new balance SDS 1000 is the best spike ive ever worn, and its got a heel that would be fine for the 400, and its rigid so it would be good for a shorter sprint too

two 100m world records have been set in the G5 and a lot of 100/200/400 runners wear them. even 800 runners wear the G5. they should be fine for you if you can stay on your toes for a full 400m

for me @ least
100 I wear my G5
200 G5
400 Asics Hyperspeed, its a cheap shoe, but it is super reliable. i do have JSCs (the precursor to the maxcat) but i find it really hard ot negotiate curves with those b/c they dont have a 6 spike plate only a 5 spike on and its on the ball of your foot so when u lean into a turn u have virtually no support..trippy i usually use my jscs for the 800 but i wanna try the 800 with the g5 b/c jonathan johnsno does it and he and i are similar 400-800 type

Thanks for all the help guys. After much consideration, trying-on and travel (did you know that very few stores in my area carry Reebok spikes?) I have decided on the G5.

dude you are the same as me. 5'10" ,cept i weigh 150. haha.

i got a pair of adidas demolishers. use them for the 200 and 400. they give good support on the 200. and for the 400 they keep me on my toes. couldnt be happier with them.....although one thing, if they touch a dirt track then they are done. you will definitly snap the spike plate if you run a hard 200. 400 is just out of the question.

the closest spike ive used to this, my trainers the nike superflys. i use those for dirt tracks and the demolishers for all weather

The Maxcat isn't a sprint spike by nature, it's a middle distance shoe with a more aggressive upper that allows you to sprint. It's not uncomfortable to run in for long distances if you run properly, which is something I doubt much of DyeStat does.

I vote is for super shifts. Not the new ones but the red and black or the black/blue/yellow ones from two years ago. I personally love the ones from four or five years ago yellow/black/orange, the ones that bennie brazell will still only wear.

The Super Shift was never released in red/black, black/blue/yellow, or yellow/black/orange. The only colours ever released for the Super Shift are silver/red(/black), silver/black(/yellow), and white/red(/black). The shoes you're referring to are the Zoom Shift Fly which had the original Superfly plate like the Super Shift, but had a much different upper.

I'm starting to doubt how much you know about spikes. The G5 is all of 0.6 ounces heavier than the Super Shift. That little weight difference means precisely jack in a 400 at almost any level. Furthermore, the weight difference is made up by the more aerodynamic zip shroud on the G5.

The Superfly doesn't have and never has had a Shox in the heel. That's the Monsterfly, a spike whose only relation is the forefoot strap to keep your foot on the plate better.

As for my personal preference, being that I run the same events, I'd suggest either the Maxcat or an older Superfly (price). The integrated forefoot lockdown of the Maxcats can be a saving grace or a pain in the ass, depending on who you are. The Superfly will help to keep you up as high as possible in the last stage of the 400 where your legs feel like ****.

maurice greene set the world record in the superfly p, which is the same spike plate plate as the JA/G5

I like Nike Celars. How do they compare to the other spikes listed? I really don't know much about different spikes.

I like the old Celars (sadly, they have been discontinued), but I also wear Nike SuperShifts, and they worked pretty well for me. ( I race the 100, 200, and 400 also)

For me for the plate i'll have to go with the Superflys and for and for the overall shoe and comfort i'll have to go with the Maxcats. I'm mainly a 2 and 4 runner but i'll run the 4x1 occasionally, and i use my G5s for the 2 and if i have to run the 4x1 and i use my Maxcats for the 4.
