Do throwers from states that do not hold these events want to do them at all.

I would be interesting in javelin. I'm not even a thrower.

In Washington, Hammer isn't sanctioned by the WIAA, but there are a number of separate Hammer competitions and invites, including a "state" Hammer competition.

Washington state has 2 of the top 4 prep hammer throwers in the country right now -- Zach Midles and Brad Charters are currently #3 & #4 (222-08, 222-00 respectively).

In regards to Jav - Washington state requires a blunt rubber tipped Jav....which I've heard affects the aerodynamics..... what do other states do?

CA might have it in a few invites. But the CIF doesn't sanction it.

I throw both in California, but have to do it during the summer meet season. The California hammer championships, then through the USA Track and Field junior olympic series. I am pretty good here, but when I get to nationals I am way behind the throwers from states who get to throw all the time. I would like to see hammer in high school here. The hammer is tough, but it is fun to chuck.

Hey...Does anyone know of a website that goes into good detail of the mechanics of the indoor weight throw?? Or does anyone have some great tips--I'm trying to teach myself the footwork and timing and looking for a little more help...
