Hi. I am a shotputter, who started throwing last spring. My technique is neither rotation, glide, or power postition. I do what I call a shuffle. Think of a slide slide type thing starting at the back end of the circle then slide across. I have friends that have always been doing the glide, for since they started in grade school. The only thing is they hardly brake 30ft. I myself with this technique broke my school record last spring with a throw of 38 ft.. and this year i won the state meet. I am now thinking of trying to do the roatational. My question is does anyone else seen this technique or do oyu do it? and does it help you?

its good for people who dont have coaches. I generally make sure my teammates never learn it because it sometimes teaches people bad habits but its ok if you have no coach and arent into learning proper technique

the slide (or the Ghetto glide as i call it) is not very good. It's for people who are learning how to throw or just can't glide for their lives. My advice is to try to move on to the rotational as soon as possible, and if you can't spin, try to glide. Either is better than the slid

pretty much what that type of throw does for u is it gives u momentum a lot easier than in the glide/spin. so i agree with the person that said its more for people w/o a coach cuz with a coach u could learn how to get momentum with a glide/spin

most at worlds/olympics glide...though I spin farther than my glide, don't try to spin w/out coach...look for drills to try to link power postion with glide...worth it- no offense, but what state's winner heaves a 38' throw?

The spin/rotation can help you get more poer than the glide, which can help you get more power than the shuffle. However, very few people spin at the high school level, although most spin at college/international level. You should work on developing your glide; that will help you throw better in the long run. The key is to land with everything (eyes, hips, shoulders) facing back, then fire your throwing side hip towards the sector.
