On Friday I bought this...

Ecridor XS Retro ballpoint pen by the Swiss company Caran d'Ache, it's Silver plated with a Rhodium coating, it costs $110 plus tax but was worth every penny to me! I love high quality writing instruments!!
http://www.carandache.ch/products/writing/ecridorxs/index.lbl?product=404.486

Go to that website and hover your mouse over the picture of the Pen to get a close up of it. I love fine pens and this pen is pretty much my favorite. The only thing that could make this better is getting the version with a Ruby on it or getting the Fountain pen version instead of Ballpoint maybe. I can't afford high quality clothing, watches, or cars, but I can get a highly graceful pen which I am very proud to own! :)

My extravagance: Mont Blanc pens.

I got a fountain pen from my wife as a wedding present that I sign all my pleadings with and ball point from my in-laws.

I've purchased several more over the years and have a ball point, rollerball and mechanical pencil in both burgundy and black. The burgundy stays in the office witht the fountain pen, the black stays in my briefcase.

Not quite there yet, just a poor college student. But for some reason I stopped losing pens when I started buying better ones. Oh well, when I am actually making money then I'll be in the same league as you guys.

Yes, I really enjoy using a nice pen.

Zatopek, please go to the Mont-Blanc website and give me a link so I can see your pens please. Please tell me the model you have. Again I have the Ecridor XC Retro Ballpoint pen by Caran d'Ache, I put the link up. I haven't used Fountain Pen's much, does the ink run on those type of pens sometimes and make messy lines? I can't remember right now what the final result is of a fountain pen vs ballpoint pen. What do you think of the pen I bought?

Harrier12, how much money do you get a month? Right now I am also a poor college student, but I like these pens a lot so I put in the money to get them. It's a lot cheaper than buying expensive clothing, watches, or cars. What do you think of the specific pen that I bought?

Who else uses high quality writing instruments? :)

prices aren't insane, paying them is.

the people (i.e. stores) that over price things are taking advantage of stupid people who over pay. you can't blame them for that. blame the idiots who buy expensive crap.

You've got to be pulling our legs here.

Zat is a successful attorney, bro. HE HAS HIS OWN FIRM.

If he wants to waste his money on a little fluff here and there then...more power to him.

You on the other hand need milk money.

Take that pen you bought back right now young man! :D

Then do like Wolvie said and go to Staples and get a box of ballpoints.

You can't even LOOK at a pen like that until your nose uses autopilot to go high in the air as you pass the commoners.

And if you're a poor student it may be a minute or two before you don't need to peek to see where you are going. ;)

I like High Quality writing instruments and I will buy them. People are upset that I buy them. It shouldn't matter to other people what I do with my own money. If I want to buy a silver/rhodium pen I will. Instead of insulting me about this, please just be happy for me that I am enjoying my new product. There's no reason for this negativity please. Each person has their own preferences.

Kalaby, I didn't notice that you posted. Join our group! I love to shop at Paradise Pen Company. I bought a gift there one time, a special clock which was kinda like a Gyroscope and Golden Sun, hard to explain, it was great!

I clear about seven hundred a month, most of which ends up shot among gas/insurance/girlfriend/car payment.

That pen of yours is nice, but I prefer something a little slimmer.

Harrier,
I tend to favor Parker ball points or Zebras. Both make good inexpensive pens. You can get Parkers starting from about $3.50 (the Jotter - but I do prefer a fatter pen now), Zebra has some nice cheapies...from about $2.00. They don't blob ink the way Bics do. You can get a good pen for a reasonable price. I have to say that my opinion is that Cross, while nice looking, IMHO write pretty lousy. I should say that I don't use fountain pens, so no experience there.

I don't think this is a "high quality" pen, but I certainly enjoy using it.

JRF,
It's a high quality, budget priced pen. Think about what the Japanese did to the auto and electronics industries. There's no crime in driving a Toyota, on the other hand, remember the old acronymic meaning of the FIAT name...Fix It Again, Tony!

These are great posts. I enjoy reading your positive responses.

Harrier12, my pen is real small and very slim. To get something slimmer I am not sure where you would get it. I remember when I was younger and for fun I wrote for a while with the ink cartridge cylinder thing that you put inside ballpoint pens. I wasn't using the pen, just the ink cartridge cylinder.

JRF1388, I think I had that Zebra pen. It's high quality for the basic pens you can find in a supermarket or a regular store. Isn't that as good as they get in a basic place like that? I like that pen. Maybe you should move up the next level and get a higher quality pen like they sell in Office Depot or something. They have medium quality pens there but nothing too expensive like Paradise Pen Company I think.

Wolverine, I bought the latest issue of Scientific American Reports. This issue is about some type of Physics, I can't remember right now which one, I haven't read it yet because I'm reading something else. I recommend you pick it up!

It's an updated version of an older model. I've been using that model for several years now. I like to joke with my friends that the pen is the reason I score higher than them on exams (even though that's not the case, I think :D). Once I start making money for a living, rather than spending it, I may look for high "quality" pens, but for now I'll stick to my Zebra.

You've been using that pen for years? That must be great, be careful not to lose it. Don't let anybody borrow it unless they are right next to you and will use it for only a few seconds right next to you. That's what I'd do with my Ecridor XS Retro. These pens would be cool if they helped you out with exams like that! I think you should go to a high quality pen store just for fun. One nearby me is "Paradise Pen Company" and it is great. There are more pen stores but I haven't researched them or gone to other ones yet. :)

Somehow I missed this thread when it came out over a year ago. I used to always use a Pelikan Fountain Pen:

http://www.pencity.com/Pelikan/images/SizeComparisonEng.gif

But the last one I had broke when I was a new father (don't let toddler's near those things!!) and I have never replaced it.

I now use a Lamy Fountain Pen:

https://www.penfountain.co.uk/images/Lamy%20Alstar%20blue%20sml.jpg

No where near as nice as the Pelikan, but way less expensive and not bad for day to day use

I lose pens too easily to risk buying nice ones, although I did happen to find a real great one under a bunch of stuff when my house was getting new furniture a few weeks ago, and I've been leaving it in the same place in my room to make sure I don't lose it. Problem is with me being out of school for the summer, about the only thing I use it for is filling out my running log.
