I'm starting this thread so I can open it to your picture on occasion....and just STARE.

So beautiful, graceful and FAST!!!!

49.28 3rd FASTEST TIME IN US HISTORY.

Y'all remember over the years all the ADJECTIVES for Sanya....Ms. Grit, Superwoman, Ms. Awesome, Greatest Overall Collegiate Sprinter from 60-400m in US History, Wonderful, Elegant, Beautiful, Polite, Intelligent, Incredible, Explosive, Determined, Complete, blah, blah, etc...

Well....I apologize.

I left a whole lot out.

Sanya, you are accomplishing everything I knew you would.

Don't settle, sweetheart.

CRUSH THEM!!!!!

Congrats....US CHAMPION!!!

BTW...I know most of your statistics/records by heart, but it's becoming increasingly difficult to keep up. :D

She has now mastered that art of running: not just having speed because lots of people have speed but how and when to use it. She is obviously a quick learner..

Where is Coach Cheese when you need her to give these ladies some comp! :) .
I would love to see these 2 generations competing together. We sure would see some records fall.

Not when Valerie Brisco, and Cheese ran. Chandra Cheeseborough (really a sprinter 100, 200) ran in a tune up meet before the '84 Olympics and broke the American Record in only her 2nd or 3rd time ever running the 400. She later went on to get a Silver behind Valerie and her time of 49.05 is #2 All time for US women. So I don't think that stinks  .
They just competed at a time when the Russians and the Eastern Bloc countries had women running still Unbelieveable times (47 seconds, which I still think aren't legit!)
Sanya, if she keeps doing what she doing can take down the record.

True.. and DeeDee's training plan really kicked in because a couple of weeks ago she was looking shaky. That's why they call it peaking for the big race. :D

You don't have to think about the Russians and the other Europeans.Their athletes were chemical creations along the lines of Frankenstein.Systematic drug kids throughout their entire careers in the Soviet and Eastern Bloc.

Frankenstein wasn't the monster's name. It was the creator's name. The monster didn't have a name, but your point is well taken.

All three of them will run faster. I think the women's 4x4 record needs to be broken. We have the tools to do it. We're about to see a major swing on the 400m scene for American women.

I see one thread on the elite board about Webb. It's making fun of his picture.Puuuleeeeesssse.

I did a search JUST IN THIS forum of "Webb" and I got 414 individual posts using his name.

For Sanya?

130 individual hits.

60 different THREADS include his name which is the MAXIMUM SEARCH LIMIT.

So who knows how many actually do?

For Sanya?

17.

There are THIRTEEN DIFFERENT THREAD TITLES started in his name.

For Sanya?

Two(both of which you apparently chose to read).

Now....she's AN OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST, World Champion, NCAA Champion (multiple times) and RECORD HOLDER, MULTI-EVENT American Junior Record Holder, National H.S. record holder, blah blah blah...(I don't have room for everything)....

And just yesterday she becomes the US CHAMPION after running a WORLD LEADING 49.28....the 3rd FASTEST 400m TIME in US history becoming the fastest American in OVER 20 YEARS at the tender age of 20...

So...It's easy to explain why Sanya has TWO threads about her, but hard to explain why she DOESN'T HAVE MORE.

I am her self proclaimed BIGGEST FAN (outside of her family, but when I was sick she wrote me and told me I could have the title:D ) and I post what I want in a respectful, decent manner.

And all you can think of is trying to find ways to make TrackDaddy notice you.

Just keep on flattering yourself trackdaddy, you seem to have a couple people impressed.

You brought up the whole Webb thing. You seem to have somewhat of a grudge against him. My post wasn't even serious, I just thought it was funny that there was only one recent Webb thread, and that it was making fun of him. I guess i should have added a little winking face or something.

You pretty much completely made up the whole "grovel-jocking" thing, since I have no history of posting about Webb positive or negative.

If someone made a thread called "Alan you are the greatest!!!" just so they could stare at his picture I would think it was just as weird.

Guess you fired Webb, now you're jocking me. ;)

The stare at the picture thing was meant to be funny.

In praise of her tremendous performance.

Let me give you some info you don't have.

I'm not creepy or obsessed, I'm CONVINCED (that Sanya will rule the track WORLD). I've said that for years and I love being right and saying I told you so. Because of her, I get to say it alot.

I'm a VERY WELL RESPECTED member of my community.

MANY people on these boards know EXACTLY who I am.

Some I've known for years through track circles, some I've met at meets after chatting on here.

When you read my Sanya posts...know this:

I've met Sanya and her parents.

Her family has met my wife and kids.

My daughter ran in the Big 12 when Sanya ran and they know exactly who each other are. I was standing there talking to her dad when they met.

We also have mutual acquaintances through someone I work with.

Sanya Richards knows where I live, where I work, how long I've worked there, and who I am.

My WIFE/SON/DAUGHTER occassionally read my posts and know that my only interest in Sanya is that she's my favorite athlete and I want to see her ON TOP OF THE TRACK and FIELD WORLD where she belongs. :D

I'm a fan of Sanya's and a sort of distant friend who has believed since she was in high school, that she is the best female athlete I've ever seen.

And my Dyestat peeps will tell you that I'VE MADE THAT CLEAR FOR YEARS.

She's an incredible person. Very spiritual, humble and mature and she comes from a great supportive family.

For example:

I was very ill earlier this year and when she heard, she emailed me to check on me.

I asked a friend of hers online if they could ask her for an autographed picture after she won Gold in Athens. She's VERY busy but she sent Ronnie Moore and I autographed pictures.

BTW...I like Alan Webb. :)

US champion Sanya Richards produced the upset of the evening beating Olympic champion Tonique Williams Darling in the 400m, breaking the 50 seconds barrier for the third time this season with 49.95. Williams Darling finished runner-up in 50.14.

“It wasn’t a bad race. Of course I am never happy with second place. The race was very tight in the end. I should have given more energy than what I actually gave”, said Wiliams Darling.

LSHIC@boo boo. I say that to people sometimes when they start complaining about something.

I hope she didn't think she could just eek out another win just because she's olympic champ. Someone forgot to tell her that it doesn't work like that. BTW, when does WCs begin?

Richards - two champions down, World title to go - TDK Golden League, Rome
Friday 8 July 2005
Rome Italy - Barely a week into July, U.S. 400 metres champion Sanya Richards has to be feeling pretty good.

Last Tuesday in Lausanne, Richards handily defeated Olympic champion Tonique Williams-Darling with a respectable 49.95 performance, despite stiff winds down the backstretch. Tonight in Rome, the former University of Texas standout took down another big name - reigning World champion Ana Guevara - by a whooping 8/10s of a second.

“I wanted to run a more relaxed race than last week,” Richards said. “I got a little tight at end, so coach wanted me to kind of save my kick and have a good run coming home.”

Only 20 years-old

The pair of wins, her first in international Grand Prix or Golden League competition, came on the heels of her world leading 49.28 win at the U.S. Trials last month - a marked improvement from her previous personal best of 49.89 - in a race in which two others also dipped under 50 seconds for the first time ever at the U.S. Championships. Already a World and Olympic relay gold medallist, it’s difficult to remember that the Jamaican-born Richards is barely 20 years old.

Despite her relatively light international experience and a reasonably strong field, Richards wasn’t challenged at all at Rome’s Olympic Stadium.

“I was a little surprised,” Richards admitted. “I thought with Ana [Guevara], Dee Dee [Trotter] and Monique [Hennagan] in the race it would be a little closer.” But it wasn’t, with Guevara a distant second (50.62), Hennagan third (50.63) and Trotter fourth (51.40). “I’m just happy with the win.”

Lausanne follow-up

Her command performance here was an apropos follow-up to her Lausanne win.

“That meant a lot to me,” she said. “I think in order to be the best you have to beat the best consistently. I’m looking forward to racing her again and perfecting my race to continue winning.”

While some may have been surprised with her strong showing in Lausanne and now again with her Rome follow-up, Richards, and those close to her, including new coach Clyde Hart, certainly were not.

“My coach and family believed I could do it. I know my training was going well and if I put together a good race that I could win. But it’s a little overwhelming to have won so early. It just means that what I’m doing is really working, so I’m happy.”

Guru’s latest pupil

Richards began training with Hart this year, the 400 coaching guru who has trained the likes of Michael Johnson and 2004 Olympic champion Jeremy Wariner. The switch from her coach at the University of Texas, Bev Kearney, did necessitate some adjustments, but Richards said she is thoroughly pleased with the move.

“I think it was a good move for me because Clyde’s a better quarter [mile] coach, while Bev was a better sprints coach. I certainly do miss Bev.”

Back to Waco before Helsinki

Richards plans on returning to Waco, Texas to continue her preparation for the World Championships in Helsinki in August. There is nothing out of the ordinary in the training manual, she said.

“Just fine tuning the same things we’ve been doing, a lot of over-distance stuff, and very little speedwork.” She’ll return to Europe for the London IAAF Super Granc Prix on 22 July, her last race before Helsinki.

Not keen to make predictions, Richards does nonetheless think she can go significantly faster that her performance in Carson, one that made her the third fastest-ever American, and the tied her as the 15th fastest ever in the world. Membership to the sub-49 second club is next.

“I think I have it in me. I’m not going to push for it because sometimes when I press for something big it doesn’t happen so I’m just going to keep trying to win and I know the time will come.”

She is the best women's 4x4 coach, no doubt.

Doesn't Texas women have like 7 or 8 of the 10 fastest collegiate times...ever?

Sort of like LSU in the 4x1.

Bev SHOCKED the WORLD and beat an "unbeatable" SoCar team in the NCAA 4x4 this year.

But she didn't shock us.

We run the 4x4 down here.

Now go back and re-read those threads and see how I hinted WAAAAAYYY before NC's that she might coach out a win in the 4x4. I said it all season and NEVER conceded tht SoCar would win the 4x4. Go back and check. Even after Texas got beat pretty bad at Penn I said it. Most peeps felt that Texas couldn't drop that far and they had all the splits figured and all that mumbo jumbo. All that mess about so and so splitting this and that blah, blah.

TrackDaddy has to take off his belt every year about this same subject. ;)

When you talk 4x4 splits...tread lightly. Because Bev may have Kerr drop below that 51.0 flat next year. Forget what she runs open or what you think.

Because TrackDaddy done told y'all that you run the 4x4 with your heart...NOT just pre-meet splits. The meet's last event when everybody is tired, Bev brings out the best.

The Lady can coach a 4x4. I think with the exception of the dropped stick last season, her teams almost always 1st or second at NC's. She has the nat record by FAR too.

But EVERYONE in Texas knows that Clyde Hart is the best 400m (traditionally mens) coach.

Understand that Sanya is making Hart look good too. I mean it aint like he dont have nothing to work with. He's had very good 400m women before but nothing NOONE like Sanya (it aint possible ;) ).

I think Sanya said it right in regard to those two coaches...Hart doesn't have a powerhouse below 400m and Hooker won the 100m this season under Bev who won another mile relay..

Bev is a better sprint coach and Hart, the 400m.

But the women's 4x4 IS OWNED by Bev.

I think Bev works better with producing speed while Hart endurence.

An example, i think Perkins (Angel) would run better under Bev because she just doesn't have her speed right now.

Looking at two kids coming out of high school.

Alex The Great and Brandi Cross, Alex would run great under Hart because shes already super fast, where as Cross still needs lots of speed work and would develope better at Texas, Ebony Collins would be great at Baylor with her speed.

Just my opinion. :D

INDIANAPOLIS - Two-time U.S. champion Sanya Richards has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after posting consecutive victories last week on the European circuit.

Already the world leader this year in the women's 400 meters, Richards' first win last week came on Tuesday when she handed 2004 Olympic gold medalist Tonique Darling of the Bahamas her first loss of the season in Lausanne, Switzerland. The 20-year-old Olympic and world championships 4x400m gold medalist pulled away in the final 100 meters to win in 49.96 seconds, with Darling the runner-up in 50.14.

Richards followed that performance with a win Friday over a strong field at the Golden Gala in Rome that included reigning world champion Ana Guevara of Mexico. Richards cruised across the finish line in 49.82 seconds, well ahead of Guevara, who was the runner-up in 50.62.

Another impressive performance was turned in last week by reigning U.S. champion Daniel Lincoln, who finished the men's 3,000m steeplechase at Rome in 8 minutes, 12.65 seconds in becoming the #3 all-time U.S. performer in that event. Also in Rome, former Stanford great Lauren Fleshman crossed the finish line in 15:02.52 to become the #8 all-time U.S. performer in the women's 5,000 meters and achieve the IAAF "A" standard for the World Championships.

Now in its fifth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.

Katara the 800 runner has run 2:12 and is a solid 54 second runner although she has run 53. on open leg of 4x400's and 24.4 in the 200. She will excel at Texas.

SANYA'S INTERVEIW

Q: Have you splurged on anything?

A: I did get a condo in Austin. And I got a car, a Mercedes C230 compressor, in granite gray.

Q: At nationals, all of the top 3 women in the 400 were under 50 seconds. Do you suppose that either world or American records in the 4x400m relay are vulnerable?

A: Definitely. As soon as I got off the track after the 400, Dee Dee [Trotter] looked at me and said, 'that world record's in trouble.' I think we can do it as a team. It will be hard - one of us will have to run 47.

Q: Some people have said that not everybody can handle Coach Hart's workouts.

A: Yes, they are tough. I think being in the UT program for 2 years, Bev's workouts are very tough, especially mentally. So I had a good background coming into Coach Hart's workouts. When I run a workout, I want to destroy it and do it better than he's ever had anybody do it.

Q: Do you live in Austin or Waco?

A: I'm living in both. I go back and forth a lot of the time. It's about an hour and 20, hour and 30 minutes between them. I bought a condo in Austin and now I have a place in Waco, too, since the hotel charges were getting a little high. I'll go to UT in the fall, full-time

From the article:

“She’s had a terrific career so far,” Kearney said of Richards, who now trains with Clyde Hart. “She’s one of the most motivated athletes I’ve ever seen. She ran five quarters in Athens. For a 19-year-old, that’s so impressive.”

Richards, who set several US junior and NCAA records while under Kearney’s watchful eye, had nothing but the fondest of memories of working with her former coach.

“What I heard before I came here was that Bev was all about business,” Richards said in The Road Back. “But what a lot of people don’t see is the side of her that’s just nurturing and so caring. I always feel like I’m one of her daughters. She loves us all as if we were her daughters.”

Felix and Richards carry US hopes
HELSINKI, Aug 4 : Precocious, young and supremely confident, the new generation of female American sprinters are poised to make their mark at the world championships starting on Saturday.

With Marion Jones in decline and Kelli White and Torri Edwards banned for doping offences, Olympic 200 metres silver medallist Allyson Felix and 400 metres runner Sanya Richards carry US hopes.

The 19-year-old Felix, runner-up to Veronica Campbell at the Athens Games, has set the two fastest times in the world this year and has beaten the Olympic champion.

The Los Angeles native, coached by Bob Kersee, husband of heptathlon world record holder Jackie Joyner-Kersee, ended Campbell's five-year winning streak over 200 metres at the London Grand Prix last month.

''To beat her in Helsinki I need to get out well. I need to execute the race better, as Veronica is a very strong runner,'' Felix told a news conference.

''I gained a lot of experience from the Olympics but I have to be more patient and learn more about the event.'' Like Felix, the 20-year-old Richards has upstaged the established one-lap specialists this year and boasts a season-leading time of 49.28 seconds.

Richards proved that run was no flash in the pan by beating Olympic champion and 2004 Golden League jackpot winner Tonique Williams-Darling in Lausanne before brushing aside world champion Ana Guevara in London.

You're so kind! I don't see Russia running much better than they did in the final. Though I see several similarities with our team and that of '88, I see very little for the Russians with that era. Where I do see it is Pospelova with Piningina. Where the latter allowed Brisco to make it close, Pospelova would suffer a massive crash attempting to reel in Richards.

Come to think of it, after Trotter, the suffering for each would be extreme!

I hope you're right though. For future battles.

You really think I am being genrous with them? I see waht u are saying, but they were TOTALLY in control of that race from start to finish, unchallegend, Novlene WIlliams was JAM's best leg at like 49.9 or so, and they still had like a 5-10? meter lead on them when she handed off at 2nd, 3rd leg blew the race completely open after the 1st curve, and by the anchor it was already a walk in the park. I do think they would have NOT matched the US at all...especially given that MoHen ran 49.3 while chillin on anchor in the prelims...(all for naught... ) Could you imagine what they could have done as the final day's weather was waaaay better than all the previous days...

Sickening isn't it? All I could think of was how we would have to wait 2 more years for the grand finale. Though we got an early taste last year. :D

Mid week, I had my doubts about something special. But after Henderson's smooth exhibition, and the shortcomings in the open, there was a feeling that Trotter and Richards would come out to destroy the field. Compadres on the site were talking 48 sec splits. With or without the Russians, 3:18 and yonder was truly a possibility. C'est la vie...

I was surprised to see Pechonkina lead off. I would have thought Zykina to be on there. Do you believe the former would have run better with, say Trotter leading off? I think YP's chain would have been yanked very HARD!

Knite:
Maybe Russia could return to Penn next year and be encouraged to stack it up against Richards & Co. Perhaps select an additional relay carnival meet as well.

Provided consistent health and fitness issues, give me your top 6 400m ladies (yeah, I know...) for '07 and 3 outside possibilities.

No Allyson Felix? After viewing her race @ Zurich, particularly with inconsistent acceleration qualities this summer, I would hope she would make a larger stab up to the 400. I, for one, have hoped for improved ability in the 20-60m region.

Time may tell. Although I realize rotation length has been an issue.

Miki Barber? Is she still working with Curtis Frye?

Well, I guess this thread needs a bump...

haJust think...not too long ago, I got attacked for starting it. ;)

I think I'll post another pic.

I want to stare at greatness.

Not to mention she's extremely easy on the eyes. ;)

TrackDaddy, would you marry Sanya if given the chance?

Oh, and I always wanted to know how many copies of T&FN you bought when she was the poster girl.

Maybe not.If Nike could foot the bill and bring the Russian team to the Penn Relays then we could have a showdown. The USA vs the World 4x4 and 4x1 is run at Penn. :D

Oh, and I always wanted to know how many copies of T&FN you bought when she was the poster girl.1) In a heartbeat (but don't tell my wife, her dad, or her boyfriend ;) ).

2) Just one (but I had it bronzed).

I also have a signed Big 12 media guide (her dad took me to her and got her to sign it for me. I got a hug too ;) ).

I have two an autographed photos of Sanya wearing her Oly gold medal and running in my home workout room on the T.V.

I can quote most of her times, records and achievements.

What can I say, she's my favorite.

I was sprung from day one. Everything about her spoke to me that she'd be the best. And at the same time was this incredibly impressive woman.

I've always said that she can do whatever she wants to do.

No one can stop her, but her.

Oh I agree W.E., but I didn't want to sound bad for putting her in the 400m(which she would excell in) cuz a few die hard fans feel like I have it in for the lady. Never have as she is a tremendous talent. But I agree, and if that were the case, she would be fighting for one of the TOP positions...but its hard taking anyone over Sanya. Richards is the TRUTH!!!

Richards is the TRUTH!!!Felix is definitely more of a 2/4 type out of blocks....but like Sanya, she's dangerous anywhere on the track from 60 to 400m.

Who else in women's T&F can you say that about?

That's what made Sanya so dangerous in college.

She could score in an NCAA Championships in ANY sprint event.

Lillie Leatherwood and Essie Kelley.... My bad I'm going back in time again.
Whats up TD, I see your regulating the masses about the greatness that is Sanya again....when will they ever learn..... That girl's going to surprise herself and dip under 48.5 some day.

Nice pic, Mark. :)

Being that she's only 20 years old, I would say the world record is in jeopardy also.

I said that earlier this year and someone reminded me that she had to get the AR record first.

Well, just weeks later she's only .06 or so from that.

I've been trying to tell people for years who/what we're dealing with here.

But Sanya says it much better than I do.

And she never utters a word.
