okay so i just got back from the doctor, who sewed my left shin up. i was yelling at a freshman and turned around and flipped over a metal bench, gouging the crap out of the skin under my knee. i have been told by the doctor not to run. We have counties tomorrow, and my question is: do i suck it up and run, or should i rest it?

wow thats tough, i mnea its a big meet but tehn again you dont want to make it worse then it has to because you could do long term damage
it depends how it feels

depends, do you guys have enough runners in event you run? if not i would consider it, but as long as it's just a gouge and not a bone/tendon injury, if it is i wouldn'tdo crap on it.

i'm the only one at our school under 4:40 in the mile, we're kind of in need of them. i have a good chance of scoring tomorrow, which is one of the reasons i'm leaning more towards running tomorrow. Also, it is only a gouge, not even that big, only 8 stitches

I had 8 stitches in my knee (way more movement than in the shin, obviously, so more of a chance of the stitches ripping out), and I was completely fine running with them.

I know I wouldn't, but then again, i'm not in your situation. Do what your heart tells you. bump bump; bump bump; bump bump; bump bump.

Here's a nOOb question. Being as Kansas doesn't have County meets, I don't know how that affects Regional/State competition. If it is like our league meet here, then it doesn't really affect State qualifying. If that is the case, rest it. If it could affect eventually going to State, especially if you're a senior (I don't know how old you are), go for it.

I would not run. The last thing you want to do is ruin a great season just when your about to end. Your going to start training for cross country (I am guessing) and it would be a good idea to start off without any injuries. I would sit this one out. You may score, but on the other hand you may get injured.

Pre would stich is while he runs.

i dont know what to tell you from experience, but there have been some runners on my tem who have run with stiches but not in the shin area but more by their calve and they were able to run pretty well, not the same but close enough. in your case i would go for it seeing how i ran my xc league finals with a fractured ankle, but that's cuz i've never gone without racing and i wasnt about to start there, so jsut do what you think is best for you. good luck if you decide to compete.

If it's just a matter of needing to get it stitched again then run.

I think you ripping open your stiches is going to hurt like mad.

Also, if it rips open there is an increased risk of getting an infection, which isn't too good.

We need more info.

How badly does your team need the points?
Are they in a position to win?
What year are you in HS?
Do you have any more big meets this season?
Have you tried jogging on it yet to test if there is strain on it?

If they're on his shin, where the skin isn't getting stretched, pulled, etc, then the chances of them getting ripped open are low. Like I said before, I had them in my knee (small, close together), and they were fine.

If thats the case, I would go for it.
