wyner is mentioned in the last 2 paragraphs of the story.

<<No matter how well the freshmen class performs, Hyde said that even natural athletes need advice along the way -- including freshman phenom Jimmy Wyner.

"I take full credit for all of Jimmy Wyner's success," Hyde joked.>>

i didn't realize he was viewed that highly up there. i thought that was pretty cool.

^^Anyone see that? I don't know if someone posted that already, but that combined with a stellar indoor runs and his 1:51 at Penn, I'd say Jimmy is having quite a freshman year. He was also runner-up in the mile indoor this year at Heps.

Yeah, I'd have to say that 4:08.2i, a 1:48.9i split, and a 3:46.4 1500 in April is (at the very least) a GREAT frosh year. Possible 3:45.00???

Scotty, good call on that..also has pumped out two winning 800 efforts outdoors at 1:51.63 or better scratch I believe.

I think Wyner's talent was even bigger than many thought.

Bruce Hyde who was mentioned earlier and has a 3:42.xx to his credit was Wyner's latest victim.

Talk about blossoming in college. I mean this guy was GOOD, VERY good in high school but he's downright UNconscious now.

that's fast... so, now he officially is a 1:48 800 guy because he did it from scratch... i guess that can be 1:47 on a relay carry... i wonder if he can run equivalent to 4:00 for the mile this outdoor season in a 1500 somewhere!?!?!?

the kid is built more like a miler/3k guy rather than an 800 runner...

He ran a 3:48 or 3:46 a few weeks ago breaking the Cornell freshman record for 1500. That made him the 4th fastest 1500 ever at Cornell. A sub 4 equivalent is very possible in my opinion.

edit: as for what he looks to be like im thinking this early in his college career he is definately an 800/1500 guy with 1500/3000 coming later on in his career.

Two years apart I was teammates with Robin Martin (6-4, 185) and Sam Burley (5-9, 145). Just wondering which one was the typical 800 runner.

how is that? have you looked at some world class 800m runners, for example kipketer is extremley skinny (yes he is also long, but so is daniel komen (a 1500/3000 guy)) you don't really want to put someone who is good at a certain event in another just on the basis of his body type. Although wyner pumped out some decent 5k times, he is clearly more of a 800/1500 guy which his results verify and his drastic drop in the event's PR's. This is like when people argue that wariner should move up to the 800m just because he is somewhat skinnier than other 400m guys and he is white.

Please elaborate on how wyner's body type is built or the mile/3000m

Wyner has ample wheels to run 800 as is evidenced already, and his rapid rise at 800 has to be somewhat of a pleasant surprise to most, I know it is to me. I knew he was good , but this good? Wow!!

What Anthony is referring to most likely is that Wyner is also an accomplished Xc guy who ran 25:30's at vanny as frosh
