I've been watching Aries Merritt race now for like four years and every time he runs I'm almost certain he runs 13.33. Has he ever run anything faster or slower? If he has I haven't seen it.
I'm taking Xiang in 12.96, Arnold in 2nd (13.01), and Anwar Moore in third (13.07). Moore is scary good; 13.12 a month ago or so in the JUCO championships?
Oh, and Merritt in 13.33.

I know you are (kinda) joking, but:
13.12 (Lausanne, 2006)
13.17 (Rome, 2006)
13.17 (Stockholm, 2006)
13.19 (Madrid, 2006)
13.20 (NYC, last week)
13.21 (Sacto, 2006)
13.22 (Fayetteville, 2006)
13.24 (Zurich, 2006)
13.24 (Monaco, 2006)
13.25 (Stuttgart, 2006)
He's run 13.33 legal twice.

I've never run a sprint race, so I really wouldn't know, but does competition really matter in a 110 m race?

Hell yeah it does, you feel it in a race like that.
If Trammell was there, it'd be a perfect race.

Agreed, but it's damn near perfect.
If the conditions are good, bit of a tailwind, WR is going down, i'm calling it, 12.85, and an upset on Xiang.

moore ran a 13.00 at the drake relays in late april, but the wind was too strong at 2.6. Blew everyone else out of the water though, 2nd was 13.30.

If Arnold got the WR that'd be so great. In all honesty though, he's kind of inconsistent.

In a sprint race, I'm sure competition can make you run faster, but with the hurdles in there, isn't it always a bit of a toss-up?

No it's not, since you have a lot more elements that can effect your race, it helps. For example, you'll notice your lead leg hitting the ground faster, allowing you to run again for the next hurdle; your speed can increase, pulling you closer to the hurdle (Trammells problem).
Hurdles aren't just like, Mark - Set - Bang, and everyone is already decided based on their start. If you have a bad start but you have great form, then by the fourth, fifth hurdle, you'll be pushing yourself, knowing that youre in your form stride.

I'm no hurdler, but it looks like in many of these cases, the cream rose to the top with plenty of competition. I would be interested to see lanes, however. I've often heard announcers and hurdlers mention that while it's nice to have competition, they would prefer it not come from an adjacent lane, particularly if the lead legs are opposite. Anyone?

With Arnold FSing out of Reebok he's got to do something here...the question is will he press the start and risk a DQ or hope to top end them down.
Liu gets to hurdle 1 OK if he has a good 2,3 and into 4 it's his race.
Johnson will show a 13 .1x any day of the week the question can his hatched in 1971 bones still get him to 12.9x
Liu 12.96
Arnold
AJ
Kevin I think that causes them to bang arms and forces them to hug the leadside lane giving them a little more to worry about in this technical event..

Yeah, it's usually up in the air Liu's first 1 - 4 hurdles, then at around 5 or 6, he really sets into the pace. Arnold is good at coming back around 4.

I'm not sure I totally agree with your analysis here. Besides the first and last results you posted, those guys were all winning by .1+ seconds. At that level, how close is that, really? 12.91 to 13.18 in the Olympics I would consider an absolute blowout. I agree with you in essence, that competition will help them run better, but I disagree with the numbers used to show it.
