Completely mathematical. Ranked by the sum of each harrier's top 3 speed ratings. Speed ratings haven't been published for most New Hampshire meets. Meylan made rankings for the MoC '05 though.
http://www.tullyrunners.com/XC2006/RatingsNonNY2005.htm#Hampshire
I used these ratings and created course conversions for various big meets over the past 2 years. Meylan also made a track/ xc converter.
http://www.tullyrunners.com/Articles/TrackSpeedRateChart.htm
Basically,
190 = 4:20.4m
= 9:22.8m
= 15:12 Track
= 15:20 Road
= 15:28 MoC ’06
= 15:36 MoC ’05
= 15:51 Manch Invite ’06
= 15:59 Manch Invite ’05
= 15:59 Class Meets ’05
= 15:59 NE’s ’06
= 16:09 VCP
= 16:31 Class Meets ’06
= 16:57 NE's '05
The rules to the rankings are as follows
-All 3 speed ratings must be over 1500 meters.
-At least 2 speed ratings must be over 3000 meters.
-At least 1 spreed ratings must be from an XC race.
So take Paulson for example,
Ran 4:12.63= 200 speed rating
Ran 15:54 NE's= 192 speed rating
Ran 15:25 MoC= 191 speed rating
His sum is 583
This sum is called Pheidippides points.:)

Since a speed rating over 5k represents 3 seconds of time and I found the sums of three different races, the difference in Pheidippides points equals the difference the runners will finish in my simulated MoC power rankings.

Then I just gave a guestimate as how the winner will finish. Then added the difference people were from the front finisher to find their times. Here are the rankings.

1. Matt Paulson 200, 192, 191, 583, -, 15:00
2. Alex McGrath 198, 194, 188, 580, +:03, 15:03

Don't worry Jorge. Run a solid XC race early and you'll find yourself with more Pheidippides points.

Zack, you're only ahead of Sinotte because of my alphabetical tendencies. Unless you're happy with the time?

The improvement from freshman to sophomore year is greater than in any other year. If I had done this last year there is no way Campbell and Sinotte would be under 16.

Proof that this system is accurate and serves a good purpose.

Proof that this system is accurate and serves a good purpose.

It's far from accurate. I don't know any system that could predict improvement like Campbell and Sinotte had. From what Campbell and Sinotte ran freshman year, they didn't deserve sub 16 predictions, though it was a nice surprise.

This isn't even meant to predict. Its purpose is to basically compile and compare xc and track performances from the last year. The whole year can be seen in the list. Also, it brings good conversation.

South has 2 (7,22)
Kingswood has 2 (3,19)

Merrimack will be in the elite race at Manchester. Also, if those are MOC times why arent the first 3 included in your first post of top 30? There are so many people around the same time it's going to be such a good race. I already tried repping, but sadly I must spread.

Does he still run? How'd he do on the track this year?

Word is Dan Maas is holding him captive in his basement. Stuck him on a treadmill, and saudomizes him with a frisbee everytime he slides over 6 pace. So his xc season will be interesting if he isn't still held hostage. He did escape at one point in early december and ran like a 4:20 1500.

If they did last year's race on Phedippides points.

Well let's hear it

According to the newsletter, class L guys should be a sweep for Merrimack, with Nashua South the favorite for second place. Central looks good and Pinkerton has potential, despite losing 6 of their top 7. Londonderry has some younger runners who are expected to step up to the plate, securing about a 5th place finish at the class meet. 6 & 7 will be up for grabs by any of the following teams: nashua north, keene, winnacunnet, and memorial.

The favorite for the individual title is the one and only Matt Paulson. Second place will be a battle between Zach Campbell, Craig Brown, Corey Sinotte, Billy Godfrey, and Dominic Puleo. Other contenders for individual honors include Matt Travalini, Matt Stilling, Francis Hernandez, and Merrimack's second guy (Alex, Brian, and Brendan?).

Class I title will go to Conval with Coe Brown finishing second. 3 potential individual winners include Alex McGrath (who is the favorite in my opinion after seeing his track season!), Dylan Summers, and Ricky Hoyt. And the Class M championship will go to either Mascenic (lost 3 of top 7) or Hopkinton, who only lost 1 of their top 7. The individual winner will be either John Little or Job Christiansen.

I used to work for the publishing company that prints it, and my daddy is one of the bosses there, so if I wanted to I could have more than 100 copies for myself (they also print sweet things like the patriot yearbook and the red sox magazine.) kinda irrelevent to anything written in it, but still cool, right?

I combined all the results and removed all out of staters, then added it up. The results make sense to me but I would be fooling myself if I said they were perfectly accurate. I only combined runners with a time of 18:59 or faster, so several teams (Central, Mascenic) didn't score 5, and they may actually fit in here somewhere if times over 19:00 had been included, because of their top 2.

Conval(elite) 1,12,16,31,37,116 97
Merrimack(elite) 13,17,20,24,36,64 110
Pinkerton(large) 11,14,30,40,43,54,71 138
Kingswood(elite) 6,35,39,75,92 247
Hanover(small) 23,49,56,58,68,81,83 254
Coe-Brown(small) 15,27,33,76,109,143 260
Nashua South(large) 22,38,70,78,95,117 303
Nashua North(large) 21,47,48,87,124 327
Bishop Guertin(large) 10,18,79,123,137 367
Oyster River(small) 7,29,94,126,127,141 383
Londonderry(elite) 18,63,84,115,125, 405
Hopkinton(small) 67,74,93,112,128,154,160 474

Obviously results will be very different at the end of the year, when teams are peaking, and I feel this is especially true for teams like Hopkinton and Nashua South, who traditionally run much better at the end of they year. Also, some teams were missing valuable freshmen who ran in the freshman race, such as possibly Pinkerton, South, Londonderry and Central

Hanover has 5 in top 25
Kingswood and Coe-Brown each have 3 in top 25

Interestingly, even though Kingswood beat both Hanover and Coe-Brown at Manchester Invite, they lose their advantage in a smaller race. If Kingswood had Chris Apkarian they would be a surefire 2nd.

Unfortunately, Georgia and Alex just had their season's screwed up.

As we know from last spring, anything TACUSA says = lies.

Therefore, if he says truth, then those truths become lies. For example, if TACUSA says it is very warm out, and it is in fact warm, then shortly thereafter the temperature will drop precipitously.

Alex and Georgia were, in all probability, destined to have great seasons and perhaps even make FLN.

Now that TACUSA has said they will, however, both will run at least one minute slower at the Class meet than they did at Manch Invite. Sorry, guys! :(

Yeah, Mcgrath's 15:40 at derryfield is pretty equal to a 15:28 on a fast course.

People under 17 at Black Bear ran an average 26 seconds faster than they did at Manchester. 22 seconds faster if you take Campbell out of the equation because he skews things. I don't think teams prepped for this meet like they did at Manch, and though it was a week later in the season, I'd still say the course is about 20 seconds faster than Derryfield.

In reference to that... I've got this strange idea that Georgia might break 18 minutes and possibly the Manch. record of 1746..., she really hasn't had that much competition this year and when she gets pushed by others or sets a goal, she gets that goal. My guess is if she goes for the record at Manch, she breaks 18...

should be a good race at Manhatten , we'll see her true potential against those Fayettville girls

Personally, I would rather not run in 40 mile an hour winds, or stronger. Maybe that's just me though.

We are expecting around 6 inches of rain tomorrow also. Job and Jacy Christenson probally won't run in the meet, because they never run on Sundays, which will kill Mascenic if they dont run.

Yeah that really stinks for the Christiansens. It's unfortunate this hurricane forced the race officials to move the race. I believe this is the 3rd time the Christiansens have been unable to race either Class meet or MoC due to the race being moved to Sunday. (Indoor's 2006, Outdoors 2006, XC 2007)

NH has run in worse, but early reports were forecasting some nasty stuff for this afternoon. I think it was probably the best decision to be safe and keep everybody healthy by delaying the race until tomorrow, although it's definitely not fun to be from Mascenic right now.

Well done everyone. today was painful.

This is a question, at the race they announced that Kingswood qualified for New Englands, which is great, but the lancertiming.com results say that Bishop Guertin placed 6th and therefor, they qualified... Anybody know the situation at hand?

The results had originally left out Jeff Warren from BG. A parent noticed this and they went back to the cameras to check it out. It sucks that there was an error, though.

We're beginning to rethink that. We're going to see how we match up with Danbury this Saturday and then decide.

And in all seriousness, my team mates ran phenomenally, I couldn't be happier for them.

PS. Do the dyestat people even know that MoC exists? they seem to not include it in their list of state meets.

so my team (conval) and I went up to see the course today. The thing starts in a big field with rolling hills. It rained all day so the course was soggy as hell - the field was practically a giant puddle. You run for a good 600-800 on field before you enter the woods, including a really sketchy turn reminiscent of last years New Englands but not as close to the start. It was muddy and we all slipped on our warm up, so i can see it being a hazard in the race. This turn is probably 400-500 in. Then it goes up a soggy hill then enters the woods. The trails in the woods are awesome, seriously bad ass. It reminded me a little of Thetford but not as hilly. It was muddy on the first hill in the woods, which includes some sharp turns and a lot of rolling action. Not sure where the mile is, probably in this wooded loop, which is a little less than 1000 meters. You come out of the woods right next to where you went in, turn left, and go back into the woods. This next woods section is much shorter and flatter. It ducks out and then back into the woods again one last time- this section was drier than the first. Just before leaving the woods for the third time you hit what seems the be the 2 mile mark. You run in the field next to the woods for a short time then do the first woods loop backwards. Kind of a big hill here, then down the side with sharp turns and mud. Just before leaving the woods you take a sharp right and it horseshoes around to a VERY STEEP, very short hill. After you emerge from this hill, you must have less than 800 meters, all on field. You finish back by where you started, in a giant, open, grassy field. Should be fun.

Does the start look suitable for 275 runners?

The start is much more suitable then any of the New England courses run over the last 4 years. To clarify, its just over 800 meters from the start to the first time you enter the woods. You have ample time and room to move in to a decent position before entering the trail. My guess is the sketchy right hand turn at approx 500 meters willl be worked on in the next couple of days before the race to dry that area out. If we get decent weather between now and Saturday the course should be in good shape.

obviously he used steroids and cheated by running a shorter course only after having his father drive him to the first mile mark on the four wheel drive vehicle that leads the race.

I'm not saying he cheated, I'm saying he ran out of his mind - I doubt anyone, even him, thought he would run that fast, beat Francis, and win the race. Good job by him.
