I've been meaning to ask about this for a few days now... anyway, do the meet organizers of these small meets (e.g Braaschaat, Belgium) have equally stringent drug testing procedures as with the larger more publicized meets? I'm not singling out Webb's meet on purpose, but it fits nicely with my question so I'm using it as an example... please don't make this out to be some Webb = Dope thread because that's not what I'm asking.

Are you asking us if Webb doped before his AR this past weekend?!

TAKE IT BACK! Webb's race was legit!!jk

I think that they would have to be just as strict. I mean Webb couldnt go anywhere without that blood doping guy after his race shown in the video on flocasts.

Do they test winners after most big meets, or is it only championships and record setting performances?

They probably don't have as stringent policies as the big meets for the usual races, I mean this was a pretty low key meet, the 800 was won by a 16 year old in 1:53. But for Webb's race, I'm pretty sure they have to have some kind of testing done for the record to be validated.

I know you're joking about Webb, but again just for clarity, this is not about Webb, it's about the small meets - like the one Webb ran in to set the AR. That said, I never made it all the way through the video because it was so choppy and took forever to download (even w/high speed cable) so I didn't see the drug-testing dude following him around at the end;)

I agree that one should think it's pretty strict these days no matter where the meet is, but with small meets and even smaller budgets at these meets, it makes me wonder if the quality of the process is preserved for all involved or if it's totally up to the meet director to determine the quality level of testing and procedure.

They sure do test athletes after big races they had and even if they are in training they check

...sorry if this is an obvious answer, but who are "they" that are doing this and is it the same "they" even at the tiny meets for consistency?

Is this the anti-doping agency or something like that?

Established testing procedures must be done in order for the meet to be sanctioned. If the meet was sanctioned, and I'm sure it was, then the necessary testing was performed.

What is new to many of you about this is the discovery that there are many smaller meets in Europe that you never hear anything about. Many small towns regularly host these little meets. It's not that hard do the paperwork and get the meet sanctioned.

A lot of up and coming guys have cut their European teeth on some of these small meets before getting the performances necessary to get in to the big meets (Oslo, Paris, Rome, Berlin, Zurich, Brussels, etc).

Ok, so assuming for a performance (ie record) to be validated a meet must be sanctioned and for a meet to be sanctioned, it must provide a reasonable (minimum) level of on-site drug screening... that's what I was hoping to hear (if I understand that correctly). Thanks for the clarifications!

Webb was tested at the meet; I think all ARs require testing to be ratified.
