maybe try one of those gu packs (or somethign like it) to give you some energy. Marathoners use them to give them a boost of energy in the middle of a race. You probably also want to rehydrate well.

12.5 minutes.. WTF. I do the same double and I get about 1.5 hours rest. I usually just munch on crackers, pretzels, bananas etc. and drink some gatorade or water. Since you only have 12.5 minutes(WTF..again), I don't know what to tell you.. sorry.

Wow that is an insane double, you got some guts for doing that! Those gu packs or powerbar jell packs work pretty good for marathoners and cyclists, so it might be worth a shot. Lots of water or a sports drink definitely would help. Any kind of food probably would come back up during the middle of the second race, so you might want to stay away from eating anything.

yea 12.5 minutes is going to be tough. try to drink maybe a little gatorade or something, but probably stay away from food. keep moving so you don't tighten up before your second race.

Wow...in Michigan mile and two mile are over an hour apart. Just keep moving, and good luck.

If you are doing this double in every meet, you need to have a talk with your coach. Ask him/her if you can do an easier double or not double at all occasionally. There is nothing you can eat or drink that will make a difference in only 12.5 minutes.

why would they schedule the two events so close together?

Run the 800/1600 or 3200/800 instead. Seriously.

You should have a power gel, DOUBLE CAFFEINE is key. but u have to have lots of water with it or u might cramp up. who would ever think its a good idea to put the mile and 2 mile so close together? I think thats the dumbest order of events ive ever heard of. I have like 1 hr. 15 min. between the two.

Dude i have the same problem excpet i get like 20 to 25 min in between but its still feels like i finish the mile only to do a warmdown then drink some water and maybe grab a gu then i have to get back on the line for the 3200. It sux big donkey dick. They need to have the mile as the first event and the 3200 as the last and the 4x 800 in the middle.our last meet only lasted 1 hour 20 min, we started at 4 and ended at 5:20. I dont know why my coach likes running them so fast and the part that sux is that our next 3 meets are home so i dont get any time off from this rediculously fast schedule.

i use to live in texas where they actually have a brain and seperated the events for all the different types of track athletes, especially so for the distance guys being that they need the most recovery. here in connecticut because there so cool they put the 1600, 800, 3200 back to back to back in that very order. thats why there is always a lack of depth and often quality here in connecticut because the guys that are good and should be covering to or three events have to pick one and do some sort of relay. unless they want to do the pain in the ass doubles like this kid with his 12 minute rest between his 2 races. it pisses me off actully when i think about it. someone fix this !

Man, that is crazy. 12.5 minutes between the mile and 2 mile? DANG! We have like 15-20 minutes between the mile and 800, and then another 7 or 8 between the 800 and 2 mile ... but 12.5 minutes between the two longest events? That's gotta be horrible! I thought we had it bad! I suggest you sip on water if your mouth is dry, but don't drink too much. Don't eat anything. You can rest for a couple minutes, then start walking until you are ready to do some build-ups before your race.

Washington for me.

Our schedule goes 1600-4x100-400-300H-800-200-3200. (boys always before girls races) I think the problem for me is that it's all dual meets, and we never have more than 1 heat.

man that really sucks how they do things there. our schedule in kansas is 4x8, 110h, 100, 1600, 4x1, 400, 300IH, 800, 200, 3200, 4x4. i usually get a pretty good rest between the 1600 and 3200. the smaller the meet the less rest usually. the worst triple i ever did was 4x8, 1600, then 3200. it was a small meet and i had about 15 minutes in between the 4x8 and mile and about 20 from mile to the two mile. needless to say i did terrible. i didnt even get my spikes off from the 4x800 to the 1600.

we have the same order of events in virginia. for me, home meets it's not bad at all to run the 4 by 8 and the 1600 because there are about 25 kids from my team that all run the 100, and some take like 20 seconds. doing the mile, 800, and 3200, however, is awful, because for some reason not so many people run the 200. there's about 15 minutes max between the 8 and the deuce. the worst double i have ever done was a developmental 3200 at state independant(private schools) and then 10 minutes later anchor the 4 by 8.

It is actually a really good idea to put the 800, 1600, and 3200 all in a row. It keeps coaches from abusing their studs and burning them out by racing 3 distance races a meet twice a week for 10 or so weeks. 60 races in a season is not a good idea. It is much better for the development of the athletes to only race one of them plus a relay.

What is the order of events? How many events do they get done in 12.5 minutes? How long does the whole meet take? 34.7 minutes? I've been to several meets where the officials seemingly take 12.5 minutes break in between each event!

I ve ran the 1600 and 3200 before its pretty brutal i had like an half-hour and i concentrated on one race more. If its for a dual meet than u probally don't need to go crazy, worry more about invintationals.

don't eat anything but maybe some honey or gU

it is not neccessary to refuel. I don't even see why people have to carbo load for anything under a 5k.. there is really no benefit as under these distnces, increased carbohydrates will not have any affect on performance... Sorry if i went on a tangent..

but between the 2 races just walk around right after the mile for 3-4 minutes, then eat some honey or gU if you want, then lie down for 2 minutes, get up walk around some more but stay relaxed. Don't do any jogging or anything, maybe some light drills. Then race, you'll be fine if you relax

In Jersey, you can run the 1600m.Finish, Change spikes, then your basically back on the track for the 800m. You finish the 800 and then the 3200 is literally 60 seconds later. It crazy. No chance to even breath if your trying to triple. Between the 1600 and the 3200 there is probably 10 minutes(depending on how quick hurdles get on and off).

I wish we had it like that, then i could dominate the 800 and not have 6 4:20 milers double and rape the 800 also
