ALTITUDE Project, a running camp in Mammoth Lakes, California (Ryan Hall, Sarah Hall, Dan Brown, Andrew Carlson, Josh Cox and other elite runners attend camp) allows college athletes to train with numerous quality college runners in a Christian atmosphere (but you don't have to be a Christian to go to camp). The camp is 1-3 weeks long (you decide how long you want to be there) and the condos we stayed in were somewhere between 7,500-8,000 ft elevation. This year Ryan and Josh spoke, however, Carlson and Sarah were racing in Europe so they could'nt come as usual. We also got to meet Dan. For most of our runs we drove to 9,000 ft elevation to run (Lake Mary), but on Tuesdays ran from Lake Mary up to 10,800 feet. Last year some of the runners ran into Meb Keflezighi at Lake Mary and he spoke a little bit last year. There is a link to the website below (Once at the website, go to the Director's Welcome, scroll to the bottom and watch the promotional video for an idea of what Altitude Project is about) ANYONE can come to this camp

question! I would love to go to this type of camp, but is there any way I could work, like doing cooking, cleaning, general management etc in order to not have to pay full price. I would be looking at 2 weeks, and quite frankly I would rather not have to pay 700 dollars because I am a college student and that kind of money would pay for me to share a cabin with my friends for 2 months and groceries in Truckee.

Is it awkward for non-Christian runners? I'm fine with learning about "Christian living", and I don't mind a strong Christian influence, but the website gives me the impression bible study/worship goes on for 3-4 hours a day.
That seems like a ton, especially on something I'm not sure on where I stand.
Also, how many non-Christians come to the camp?

My cousin goes to this camp every year now for the last two summers and he is talking me into going. I guess he helps out with it since he went to a Christian University.

To answer the question about cooking and cleaning and getting a discount, while you're there we are split up into groups in terms of who cooks and who cleans up afterward, so that is mostly taken care of by everyone. However I'm awaiting word from a camp counselor about your question. I'm also a college student and lemme tell you, the money is well worth it. Even if it's not something you want to go to year after year, I think this is one of those trips you need to go on. I felt so spiritually and emotionally cleansed after 2 weeks there, it's just an awesome way to start you're school year off right and to have a passion to spread the word of God.

Now to answer the question about there being a little to much Bible study going on. Just to give you an idea about how much time we spend in the Word and worshipping, it's usually for about 1 or 1.5 hours after our morning run and breakfast and at night I'd say we worship and someone gives testimony which is usually about 2 hours. So if you think about it, 3-4 hours studying and worshipping God is a pretty short time period when you think about how much He gave for us. Haha I'm sorry I don't mean to put you on a guilt trip, I see what you're saying. Also last year there were probably 3 non-Christians at the camp that I knew of. But anyway, I really hope you decide to come, it really is an amazing experience

Ah thanks for the response! What did the non-Christians usually do during worship, just wondering?
But I'm 98.6% sure I am coming, if my schedule permits I'd definitely like to run up in Mammoth. Hope to see a few other Dyestatters there.

Well I talked to a guy who was a non-Christian when he went to camp (he's recently asked God into his heart). Everyone was encouraged to worship and take part in Bible study. I guess if you felt uncomfortable you wouldn't have to participate. But being up in the mountains, somewhat isolated, in a place of beauty, really makes you appreciate the world around you and enables to you just be still and hear God, cause he is talking to us. It's about growing closer to Him. Anyway, that's my take on it. No one would try to force you into a situation you don't want to be in, that's not what they're about. Everyone has been in your shoes at some point spiritually, so we understand where you coming from.

If registration is postmarked June 1st or later, add $25 per week to camp fees.
You should hear from us within two weeks of sending in your registration form. If you do not hear from us, please contact us to verify that we received it.
Referral Discount: Returning athletes receive $25 off your fee for each new athlete who comes because of your referral. (Void if part of a team discount)

Well, it's almost summer and I feel like I need to talk about this camp again because it's ben such a great experience for me. I've gone the past 2 years, and my friend Matt Sonnenfeldt (FL finalist, 2nd at FL South) is planning on going up there with me this year, and we'd love to have some more people up there with us. The website is www.altitudeproject.com, and there's a new camp video that provides a good idea about what ALTITUDE project is all about (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCYYG7ze3c8). Once again Ryan and Sara Hall will be at camp, and what's great about it is the camp doesn't have too many people (about 30 each week) so you can build some great relationships with other runners.
