I've always just done striders after workouts and am wondering how much drills help and what drills to do

Before runs my team always does dynamic stretching and follow it up with some drills. We usually do butt kicks, high knees, assorted skips/lunges, grape vines, and a couple accelrations. It's mostly to work on form and some on coordination/balance.

yep. The idea behind drills is to "teach" your muscles to fire a certain way and solidify your form. The ideal end result is that you're able to maintain your form better while racing. Since bad form wastes energy, the better you can maintain your form, the better you will race.

Striders are most focused on turnover, or footspeed as some call it. Basically training your legs to move quick.

drills for improving outward biomechanics/form of a runner are a waste of time.

Different drills can improve dynamic flexibility, strength, strength endurance, or explosion depending on what drill you do.

same!! LOL!

but yeah drills are important to stretch and loosen up before a workout. static stretching increases risk of injury

what are some good drills for this?

high knees, butt kicks, carioca, skipping for height or distance

don't add them all at once, build up to it like you would mileage.
