So what are peoples thoughts on it? Dobson runs 1327....bout a half second faster then i thoguht he was capable of doing....And Hall goes 1331....People need to give him a little due i would think now. they made movies about PRe and he didn't improve much more then Hall since hs. Heck Luchini improved more then Pre did from Hs to the end of college. They should make Luchini into a God as well.

Here is what I think..great run for Dobson..and you know what? for Hall too..BUT I think many would have thought that Hall might have run this at least one year ago.
NOW what does Sage's run look like? Like a good , very good HS'rs looks like.
For all those that think me , a Sage basher, I say this.....Ask me directly what I think Don Sage's talent looks like, as if he cared?

With all due respect to Hall and Dobson, it isn't just how much you improve. Pre not only set the HSR, but dominated NCAA running, winning the four NCAA 3M/5k titles and I don't know, 3 CC titles? Oregon didn't really run indoor and Pre didn't really double at NCAAs, but he would have had some additional creds there. That's part of it, plus just the timing, the attitude, and so on.
I'm not a big defender of Pre or anything, but to get that kind of respect, you have to run fast, win, and have charisma (or something). It's even the way you win. If Webb, Hall or Ritz, with their HS reps, had been dominant at college (3 or more NCAA titles, total), you might have gotten a similar buzz. There's been numerous guys over time who have gone from 8:50 2-milers to 13:25-35 5kers during college.
Also, Pre ran at a time when Americans still were medal threats and Pre, by the time he was a senior, would've had that said about him.
Anyway, don't want to turn it into a long debate, but some strange comparisons there, mrr.

VERY nice run by Hall. 13:31 is a big PR. Maybe he'll get on a little run here, and do some big things this spring. I imagine he is due back for a 5th and final yr at Stanford in 05/06.
Hall deserves a lot of credit for this.

Well, what Hall and Dobson DO get out of this is a big boost on the NCAA form charts. Notice the Arkansas guys behind them ... Solinski wasn't in the race, but both of them can think about winning. Course Dobson might focus on the 10, no, and Hall the 15 (probably not).
How about the women's 5k. Is 15:41 a PR for Bei or has she run 15:30-something?
King, Sage ran the 1500 within an hour of the 5k (killing everyone in his heat) it was a workout...get over yourself

Yes i heard dobson might be running the 10k at the Cardinal invite or whatever it's caled in 2 weeks. I hope he breaks the 28 minute barrier.
Sage just ran a workout....nothing impressive and no way you can judge by it, but for a workout it wasn't too bad.... I don't think we should bash him for this....but obviously not praise him either.
Hall ran stanfords invite as tuneup and got bashed for it syaing what's he training for what blah blah....it worked out ok for him apparently. Dobson ran last meet as a tunup as well.....turned out ok for him...Let's just see what happens ok. Maybe whatever they have him doing now is acutally getting him back on track. People though stanford was collasping after vinlanna left....and it seemed to for awhile but now they seem to be coming back together. you just had the 3rd and 5th fastest 5k's ever by stanford runners, and Dobson was only a few tenths from 2nd fastest ever. Then you had aria running a solid 1347. It's funny how the momentum can change and the band wagon gets full or empty just like that.

-I would've expected a little faster from Don Sage. I wouldn't expect a mind blowing, deep into the low 13's...I mean he's a few weeks off of 8ks, and ran Worlds. I think this double is just a starting point, albeit a slightly slow one for him, but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for now.
-Hall's run was impressive. It's close to what I thought. He ran back to back 14:0x's a month ago, so you had to figure he could knock 20-30 seconds off a month later and running fresh. His inconsistency made it a crapshoot, but he ran well.
-Very good run by Dobson. Talented runner who has the 10k range too.
Is it just me, or has mrr become more of a Stanford fan lately? No love for the Wolverines anymore mrr? :)

Plus the fact that the Ark guys got beat pretty handily by the Stan & Wisc guys leads us to beleive that Ark won't have any easy go this spring...

You've obviously either forgotten or not seen alot of my posts the past few years or even this year lol. My fan-ness is fairly evenly spread between the two. Brannen and Willis aren't runnign this weekend, however woods, gras and ellerton and ruff all are. I'm sure you'll hear something frmo me after they run :-p

Whoa!!!! Hall actually ran a track race???
Actually, I really was surprised to see this. 13:31 looks good to me, just because at least it's a time. I don't have anything in-depth, though.

Hall looked pretty good tonight. He didn't have much zip at the end though. 3k split was around 8:06, bell lap 12:28, last lap 63ish. Great time. Steveu, the announcer said Bei's PR is 15:36. Her last 1000 was around 3:02.

Haha that's true. I guess once the big guns for Michigan open up, we'll be talking some about them.

stanford had two outstanding performances in dobson (13:27) and hall (13:31), one surprisingly good performance from chapa (3:43), two good early season performances for brown and fox (3:45 1500's), and a number of slightly disappointing or fairly weak performances at 5k. araia ran slower than he's run earlier this season at 13:47, but that's still not a bad time.
I would expect faster times from all of these guys by now, particularly jespersen, but also from emme, who had a 13:54 guy in his heat, who has run in the 13:50s, and who ran 7:57 years ago. of course, it's early, although a lot of the best times are run in april every year for american collegian distance runners, and these guys might end up with some more impressive times in two weeks at the cardinal invitational or whatever it's called.
2 Christopher Emme Stanford 14:02.90
9 Jonathan Pierce Stanford 14:09.55
41 David Vidal Stanford 14:25.93
48 Lauren Jespersen Stanford 14:36.56
50 Forrest Tahdooahnippah Stanford 14:38.88
53 Rolf Steier Stanford 14:45.83

I think Pierce is more of a steepler...i think the 5k would just be his over distance in prep to the steeplechasing at NCAAs.

pierce has a pr in the 5k somewhere around where he ran, but i thought he might be running under 14 by this point, as so many other stanford runners have done it (i believe i counted 7 on the current roster last month).

His former pr was 1413..not a huge breakthrough or anything but a pr is a pr.

Gosh i may hate stanford but i love watching Ryan Hall race, he looks like he is floating. Simon Bairu was staying in the same hotel as myself but i didnt see him in the 5k and i didnt bother checking the results... howd he do if he did race and i am just blind?
or @ least it looked a lot like him @ the hotel, cuz he was chilling w/ Wisc ppl

Maybe not "easy", but with the likes of Spearmon, Gay, Gatson, Ahmed, and the rest (not to mention Boit and Kosgei running 28:0x in the 10k already), I wouldn't worry too much for the Hogs.
