Well well well, look who it is!

XD

I actually know a lot about hurdling, and flexibility can only help you, it helps a lot for getting lower over the hurdle, and whipping your trail leg.

I would say the key to hurdling is taking 8 steps to the first hurdle, and learning how to carry your speed through each hurdle.

You need to ATTACK each hurdle, not just hurdle it, look at the hurdles as something trying to knock you down, trying to stop you from getting past them. Basically get MAD AT THE HURDLES!

ian, got a sn?

the thing with me is if i get a good trail leg goin my lead leg sucks and vice versa
i was jus at the track workin on hurdles and when i went over with a good trail leg the lead leg wasnt good at all so when i concentrated on the lead leg being good the trail leg sucked

edit: wat are other peoples thoughts on the key to hurdling?

Eh, my coach said that ideally you shouldn't even have to look at the hurdles, with the exception of the first one. Getting that trail leg fast around the hurdle, and being low is key. Also, take the approach that the 110HH is the 100. You gotta go all out and sprint it.

just keep doin' drills, over and over, be repetitive. sooner or later while running, you won't have to think about it, you'll just do it.

an awesome form drill for the 110's is 5 and 7 step drill. what you're going to do is set up like 4 hurdles. then you will just slowly jog to the hurdle and hurdle it. then take 7 steps in between the hurdle. if you take 7 steps between the hurdles you will be running really slow. so is will force you to have good form, and you will know right then and there how your form is. also the hurdles should be kinda low. i do this drill at 300 hight. so one click down the 110 hight.

i know another drill too, but i dont know what are coach calls it. but is what you do is set up all 10 hurdles at meet hight. then take out hurdle number 7. now get into the blocks and run it like you were going to run a race. once you hurdle over the 6th hurdle you need to keep driving as hard as you can to the 7th hurdle. now you are in what are coach calls "hyper speed" and you can pick. you can either hurlde it at hyper speed, or bail out. its a good drill, but you need to build form first.

always try to remeber to get your lead leg down as fast as you can and follow it with a quick trail leg. lean as much as you can into the hurdle and keep your body forward to drive to the next hurdle. sometimes on my youth track team we do this drill called wall kicks. what you do is stand facing a wall and make a mark about as high as your knee should be going up when you drive over a hurdle. so you stand about 2 footsteps from the wall and kick your mark that helps with driving your knee into your chest so your lead leg is high over the hurdle you can do this with your trail leg too. another drill is you get a hurdle and place it next to a fence like 2 footsteps and you stand on the side depending on what leg is your trail leg and you should practice both just in case you have to alternate. so you stand on the side and bring your trail leg over the hurlde and not kick the fence but bring it down like your hurdling. this helps with your quickness. sorry if you don't understand i'm not really that good at explaining this.
