"...Jim Schlentz had only one student show up to run and he wasn’t very fast..."

you always hear that in stories about CN. I wonder how I would react if I was that person

"Colts Neck’s current girls’ cross-country team, which trains on the open fields and in the woods here at Bucks Mill Park and at hilly Holmdel Park, was 11th in the nation in the most recent rankings and No. 4 in the Northeast, even with two of its top runners, Briana Jackucewicz and Allie Flott, dealing with leg injuries. No other New Jersey team was ranked nationally."

Vorhees?

There ranked #15 and Colts Neck is not in the top 25. This was also published October 14th, and those rankings are from October 12.

The kid that was the only runner on the team the first year was given a standing ovation at the school sports banquet that fall after I explained to those at the banquet what it was like for him. Imagine going to every meet with just the coach, lining up for each race by yourself, having only the coach to warm up with, etc. and still showing up every day at practice to finish 95th out of 109 runners in the County freshman meet. It took a lot to stick it out to get better. He did get better and that's all I ever ask. I still see his mother who tells me how he's doing. He got into acting and did plays after his freshman year so he stopped running but he's still proud to be the first CN cross country runner and what he did that year, as am I. It's an important story to those running well at CN to hear about the guy who started the program and stuck it out even though he wasn't a Forys. It's the programs beginning.

The initial interview was in late August and they followed up with some questions in early Sept. Then they decided to interview Craig and Ashley, then we started dropping in the rankings, then.....
