That might be excessive, 4900 should be fine.

Does anyone know the most amount of miles ran in a week my one man (or woman)? I already know Lindgren has run 300 something (not sure of exact number). It'd be pretty amazing if anyone got into the 500 range.
i dont know about the most mileage, but my coach told me that gold medal winning billy mills (10k) ran 20 mpw when he got out of hs and 40 mpw when he got out of college. i think that is really somethin.

has to be someone like dean karnazes, the guy who runs mid 200's non-stop in one day. He has to do at least 300 or 400 a week.

Actually I believe the record for most miles run in a week is almost exactly 1000 miles. This record was set by a man running continuously at about 10 minute per mile pace (which would yield 1008 miles), the running hero who just didn't stop, known to fans around the globe by the iconic appelation of "Forrest Gump."

are you saying he ran continuously for a week? If so, I think that's bull$hit. There's no way you could ever run that much w/out sleeping for a week.

No way. Billy Mills was influenced by Arthur Lydiard prior to his upset in the 1964 Olympic Tokyo 10,000. Triple those numbers and that's the mileage Billy Mills ran, most likely(at least coming up to the Tokyo Olys). Maybe 20 in HS when he was just another guy in the race but 40 out of college? Impossible. He beat RON CLARKE in that race, one of the prominent distance runners of his time...Clarke ran a 10k WR record of 27:39.3 a year later.

A while ago there was an article in Runners World about a guy that attempted to go on a 300 mile run. He'd run on long, straight roads with somebody either riding a bike or driving behind him. After his 2nd attempt at the 300 mile run, he was quoted saying, "my wife woke me up at mile 273" (i'm not sure of the distance, this is all by memory). The point of the story: he was sleep running for like 4 miles.

Yeah. He doesn't do 300 or 400 a week either. He's not really all that great on the elite ultra-marathon scene.

Most I've heard of by one person is 50 miles a day. The guys said that his coach always told him to take it easy and do little mileage b/c he would peak too early. So he decided to prove his coach wrong by doing 50 miles per day. He said he felt better than ever.

Yeah, Dean Karnases ran 262 miles continuously. However, I believe his overall pace was like 17 minutes per mile, and it took him about 3 days of continuous running to achieve the record.
He was recently bettered by a woman who completed 300 miles in nearly the same time. Only a few hours longer, so her overall pace was much better.
Karnases is certainly amazing in the sheer distance he achieved, however he was, as stated, not very good in terms of actually racing ultra marathons.
To run 1000 miles in a few you would need to average 10 minute pace for a continuous run. If you assume even 6 hours of sleep for every 18 spent running (which would probably be necessary for that amount of energy expenditure) you would need to run at 7:30 pace. Someone running 7:30 pace for a total of 18 hours a day, for 7 straight days? I guess it MIGHT be possible for a REAL elite runner, who is also capable of extreme distance. The best method would probably be running for 3 hours, then sleeping an hour, etc. 7:30 pace is certainly not that hard for the elite, but for 126 out of 168 hours in a week? I'd say it's not possible. Probably the most someone could get would be about 850.
