Yeah, but they have tons of mistakes. A revised list will come out tomorrow. Too bad penalties aren't given for fake times. Sharon's team would be out of the meet basically. I love how their 50 runners are seeded at 6.80, 6.80, and 6.90. And to be honest, I've never heard of any of them.

Sorry to bump this, but I was just re-reading all the old Dyestat stuff (first 15 pages or so) and found this and never commented on it (from May 5th, 2005: )

Ha I'm still calling bs on the 10.3

Sadly, that's legit. . .Jeff Smith ran like 6.54 (6.52?) as a freshman or sophomore (I forget which) then got hurt and dropped off the radar. This year he did nasty during the football season and then didn't run indoors. That kid is a beast, and it's a handtime - anything goes.
We'll see come Class/States, I don't know how far under 11 he'll get, but with that 55 time as a frosh/soph, he should be around 10.6s.

Jeff Smith ended up running just under 10.60 FAT.

Anyway, I definitely had a point I was going to make about handtimes, but I completely forget what that was.
Run fast all.

Some things that stuck out in my mind:

3 485 Bastien, Sam Canton HS 36.98 5 6

Who is this kid?! Someone please tell me he's a freshman/sophomore and we can expect more great things to come from him.

1 772 Hitchcock, Kyle North Attleboro 8.02 10
2 698 Conti, Peter Mansfield 8.06 8

Those may both be top 5 times in the state right now. Under 8.00 and both will certainly place in the state meet.

1 508 Kerikas, Dainius Canton HS 6-04.00 10

Unbelievable.

1 560 Miller, Brian Foxboro HS 6.71 10

Kid dropped more than 2 tenths of a second from last years Hocks to this years. His potential is ridiculous. State champion in the 300h in the spring? I'm thinking yes.

4 708 Erwin, Andrew Mansfield 4:44.52 4

Not quite sure who he is, but solid time for another Mansfield runner. Under 4:40 soon enough?

3 568 Ricci, Derek Foxboro HS 10:26.48 6

Speaking of 300mH, Brown and I should be hopefully running sub-43 or sub-42 if we stay healthy for outdoor, it's going to be awesome.

Spring track 2006 in general is going to be amazing as it is... everyone from every team has improved so much, it's going to be very competitive this year... at least more than the last two years.

Miller, Benjaminson, Peter, Giblin, Brown, Conti, Nguyen, Rahman, DiRico, Costello, anyone big from last year that I'm forgetting, and many new hurdlers for 2006... Just great.

well basically we divide up into teams and each team has a video camera and a list and there is a time limit. the teams try to do as much on the list as they can and then after the time limit is up we go to someone's house and watch the videos.

here are some examples:

5. Drive on the Sharon XC course
19. Squirt strangers with super-soakers
29. Run a 400 on a track in your underwear
32. Tackle a random snowman
33. Play basketball in a strangers driveway
34. Shotgun a water bottle

MVP is most valuable, not best/most dominant performer (it's the same thing with the Heisman). Miller is Foxboro's most valuable performer, he does deserve the MVP award.

If MVP went to the most dominant, it'd be Lint and Crook by a landslide.

I'd vote Miller for guys and Cuozzo for girls. I hope those were the two that got it.

i love miller, but i would personally take lint

he's a beast at anything from 50-800, including all relays in between

he holds like 6.02x10^23 meet records

nasty lj, nasty hj, and he's also going to frickin UPenn

and he also looks better in a speed suit. nuff said.

It's either 49.9h or 50.2h, I'm not sure. Gobi Scott from Stoughton holds the record from 1981.

Derek Ricci (FX) - Never letting go, something Derek Ricci never does. He has been injured since who knows how long, yet he continues to work hard and place 3rd at hocks out of nowhere. If you tell Ricci to take a break to get healthy, he will just tell you that training only makes it feel better, or he'll give you some other reason that makes no sense. But if there is one thing he loves, it is to run, and he will never let go of the love he has for track.

Derek Ricci FX - I think you meant inimitable talent, but I think Ricci is so out there that he is the most inimitable athlete in the league. Kid is flat out weird. Comes out of nowhere in his first meet of the season to get 3rd at Hocks. Having a conversation with him often leaves you wondering why you did. Really a good kid, loves track, has some talent if he can shake his injuries.

Sure he can. He's got four years of college ahead of him, and it's not like he needs to prove anything in high school any more. He knows where he's going. Right now he can do basically what he wants to do. Of course, he won't do the 800, because we all know that he wants to focus on the 400.

I have a perfectly good explanation for that atrocious time Clayman. I was coming around the 2nd lap, and i was riding some kid's shoulder so i could pass him on the straight, and he pulled up or tripped or something and went down, and being right behind him i almost went down with him. Lost my stride completely. Would have been low-mid 49.

No, no, I wasn't dissing the time (and now it looks even better considering I didn't know the circumstances) but I'm saying that anyone that runs 34.98 in the 300 with an 11.0 100m time (last spring the ONE time you ran it), in my opinion, is more of a 200 runner than a 400 runner. Say you get that 100 to about 10.7h/10.90 FAT - that'd be good for a 21 high 200m (an efficient runner with a 10.90 time should run about a 21.90 with any aerobic capacity, which your 300 shows you clearly have).
I don't think anyone in the state, less Wornum and a much improved Headley, could keep up with you in the 200 this spring if you decide to focus on that.

Oh, and when you called me I was at the bar and I was going to call you back and wish you good luck in the 4x400, but I forgot :o

One thing I'm not so pumped up for - Hocks at Stoughton. I know we're supposed to rotate and all, but that's a lousy track for the league meet. It's so worn down.

Longer straightaways make a track slower because the turns are tighter. Longer turns make a track faster, which is why some tracks have 110m turns and 90m straights.

Sharon has a decent track, but inadequate facilities for jumps.

hocks should be at north, mansfield, or franklin. i think it's safe to say that they have the better tracks in the hock. i like our (north's) track the best though, the softness. but if it rains, then the jav and disc fields get wicked wet.

Mansfield
03-16-2006, 10:29 PM
Stoughton has horrible jumping facilities. Theres only one pit. Last year, triple jump at the dual meet started after the rest of the events had finished. My coach had to call people off the bus to watch cuz everyone thought the meet was already over.

Hocks should have been at Franklin last year and they should be at Franklin this year.

The North track is too soft for anyone to put down fast times in the sprints, the throwing facilities at Mansfield are way too far away for anyone to watch/care, and the jumping at Sharon is terrible. Franklin is the best track in the league.

franklin is really nice and it would awesome to not travel... but the only problem is that the stretch down to the finish line is ALWAYS really windy because there are no trees/buildings to block the wind.

there has to be a way. hopefully there is a way to get the meet changed out of stoughton

Track Is Good

I think for this to happen, each team would probably have to convince their coaches to talk to the Stoughton coach, and possibly have a meeting to change the meet. If they still want a small school Foxboro is a possibility, even though our track isn't that great. It's still much better than Stoughton.

SwiftRican
03-17-2006, 02:44 PM
Remember though, the location of Hocks shifts every year because Hosting Hocks = $ for your athletic department. Its going to have to be the Stoughton athletic deparment that will have to conceed the meet location, not the Stoughton coach. Try to get it done though, because that track is a slow surface and is pretty suseptible to wind, as I can remember some windy races there.

I hope everyone has a great outdoors. Train hard, run fast. Hopefully ill be back to catch a few meets.

Track Is Good
03-17-2006, 05:10 PM
Yeah I understand that, and my thoughts are that if everyone's coach has a meeting, and the Stoughton coach is convinced, then possibly the athletic director could be swayed.

The Dan
03-17-2006, 09:38 PM
The coaches can vote to change the location, but the hosting school has to agree to it. They tried to get the meet changed from Sharon last year, but the sharon A.D. or coach or whoever made the decision could not be swayed.

My coach said everyone has tried to talk the stoughton coach out of holding hocks at their house but...as one poster said hocks equals more money so it is highly unlikely that it will be hosted there. Maybe its possible for all the runners and coaches to sign a petition. you think that if three quarters of the whole league wants it at our house (franklin) that they could turn that down? I dont know either but it could be worth a shot!

Edit: I know that finish straightaway can be a bitch but the whole facility is beautiful. we have nice jumping pits (two obviously) that will facilitate the jumping and we are really working hard on the throwing pits...as far as I know they should be a lot better this year. Its a really nice area to host. I would say Mansfield but Mansfield hosted a couple years ago and our place is brand new so we should have it here. But alas :( we wont.

Edit 2: I do not know if this is "allowed" or even possible because I dont know if it takes money to run these meets besides the snack stands and such but do you think it would be possible to have a petition going so we could have it here (franklin) and 3/4 of the proceeds go to stoughtons athletic department w/ 25 percent going to franklin for running the snack stands and all the tables and such? I dunno how it all works but could that work?

17'5.'75"****

But on a real note, 6.60m (21'8" feet). I had a toe foul at what looked like the 6.75m mark, too; so that's like 22'1.75"ish and I would've beat Powell :p

. . .then I ran the 100 in 11.42 and lost by over a second (winner in my heat was 10.39); finished 24th of 24 by 0.5 (I think second to last overall was 10.92).

. . .then I ran lead-off in the 4x400 and split 51.8. So it looks like I'm a 400m runner now. Our team ended up losing the 4x400 by 18 or 19 SECONDS (3:28.10). Two teams at or under 3:10 (Southern, Northwestern State; I think Grambling State ran 3:12 also).

Finishing in last place sucks. . .and I got to do it twice yesterday.

EDIT: I am the only white runner in Louisiana.
