Hey, are there any coaches out there that can give me advice on 100 and 200m? I sprint 11.9a in the 100 and somewhere in the 24s for the 200 which are both terrible times, but for my first year of track with barely any experience with proper running mechanics and starting blocks, I think they are ok. I want to get serious about sprinting and have time year round. Do you think it is possible to run in the very low 11.'s by the end of next year (my junior year), and how can i drop my times? i have good stride frequency but i need to work on form and speed endurance.

get stronger, to overdistance runs to get used to running 100s and 200s dont ever run on your toes run on the balls over your feet(toe up) come out of the blocks and take long hard steps til you get up to speed then step over your supporting knee with your foot thats in flight when your in top speed phase and during the end of the 100 when your body starts getting tired and your technique starts fading just act like the track is a million degrees

if you are running 11.9 it will probably be more than a year before you hit low 11s, my 100 PRs went from 11.8 to 11.4 to 11.2. Just train hard and the times will come

Work on your form, first and foremost. If you continue to run with poor form you will only see your times worsen.

We had this fun meet thing at a school by me last night and I usually run distance so i thought id see how my speed is so i ran a 100 i think i probably had a pretty bad start cuz i was behind everyone at the beginning but i ended up winning with an 11.6 and i was just like ok. Then i got home and i was looking at our teams power rankings from last year and that wouldve been the second best time on out team so im just wondering if i would have potential to get better at that and if its worth me crossing over from distance for next season.

It depends on how good u are at distance. I would recommend that if u come down then to go to the 400 rather than all the way down to the 100, that way u can use ur speed and ur stamina.

For speed endurance, one thing that i have done this year that has helped me a lot is to relax when u are running in the 100 or 200. Let your speed come out and dont try 2 force it. Have no strain in your face and stay tall and relaxed when u are running. This helps to give u a stronger finish in both sprint races. It seems like nothing but just learning how to relax helped me go from 11.2 to 10.7 in the 100.
