Hey, 505runner, rippev, minibee,... what is going on out there in NM? Who's going to be tough. I see where that Tebo kid ran 9:04. How about teams? Any predictions?

well on the 5A boys side you could look for tebo, argeulles(sp), philbert brown, matt everett, and kevin mcnally. im not sure about 4A guys except that dustin martin and jason petty will be good.

For teams in 5A youll have to ask rippiv, im biased into thinking my own school (la cueva) will repeat.
for 4A it is always between the albuquerque acadamy and los alamos and will be again this year

I'm gonna be in the Las vegas/pecos area next week for some buisness (land management) how bad will the elevation kill me. I've been running in the mid 30's mpw and I never have trouble with altitude while hiking or biking, but will it really make a difference running

Going from East Dallas to a hilly 6500 - 7000 feet, you'll feel it. When you get home tell us how you think it compares to what you are used to.

for 4A you can't forget about Gilna from las alamos! 2nd at state last year.

for 5A matt(tebo) will most likely run away with the state title and i think that highland will win state but i dunno there are other teams right up there.

What do you guys think about SW#4 Page coming to the Gallup Invitation to go head to head with SW#2 Albuquerque Academy?

In my opinion, I think Page will get the upper hand. Page's :40 second splits from 1-6 (not 1-5) are way better than Academy's split of 1:20 from 1-5.

I also believe Page's Levi Lomeland and Donovan Tsinnijinnie can run with Academy's Dustin Miller and Ben Johnson.

So, what do you guys think?

That's actually Dustin Martin. I don't know much about Page but from what I hear, it should be a good meet to watch. Let's see, Gallup invite isn't for a while, I think. *checks* its on October 1st.

Levi Lomeland ran 4:26.24 this spring
Dono Tsinnijinnie ran 4:29.77/9:44.88
in the best results I could find for the rest ...
Nathan Lee ran 10:22.45
Antonio Smith ran 10:12.29
Tomai Bitsoi ran 10:20 supposedly.

Basically, they have the potential to be a very potent pack team... I don't think they will be ahead of Martin or Johnson, but they should fall in line shortly after that. Should be fairly close race between those two teams.

mountainman
09-15-2005, 11:12 PM
Martin and Johnson will walk away from everyone but the top two Los Alamos guys. Academy wins by at least 25 points on this one methinks. Page looks good but about as good as the rest of Academy's team minus the front runners.

watchout
09-15-2005, 11:26 PM
... you don't think Martin and Johnson will run away from AA's #3/4 runners?

Last meet:

2- Ben Johnson, Academy 15:03
4- Dustin Martin, Academy 15:15
15- Kyle Cooper, Academy 16:01
17- Cal Armerding, Academy 16:07

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that Page's 1 and 2 runners will be closer to Johnson and Martin than Cooper and Amerding will be. Should look something like this, IMO:

Johnson
Martin
Lomeland
Tsinnijinnie
Lee
Cooper
Amerding
Smith
Javier
Bitsoie
Hauswald (could be up with Amerding, but I put him here for what he ran last meet)

Scoring as a dual would have:
AA - 1,2,6,7,11 = 27
Page - 3,4,5,8,9 = 29

I'm thinking it will be close.

Sorry, but, are you kidding me? AA over Page? No way! The times Page display are at higher elevation, of course AA is going have faster times. Plus, running on courses shorter than 3 miles and lower elevation makes you look good.

Watchout, no disrespect, but you gotta do your research. Page is averaging :40 seconds from 1-6, yes 1-6, and compare that to AA 1:25 from 1-5, theres is no way AA's going to beat Page with that.

Plus, Lomeland and Tsinnijinnie can run with the best of them. There is no doubt in my mind their going to break up AA's 1 and 2.

So I'm thinking...

Johnson
Lomeland
Tsinnijinnie
Martin
Lee
Smith
Javier
Cooper
Bitsoie
Armerding
Hauswald

Page: 2,3,5,6,7 = 23
AA: 1,4,8,10,11 = 34

But after today's results, AA is way OVERRATED. Fort Collins should get the SW#1, followed by Page, Rock Springs and then AA. And as for Martin and Johnson walking away from everybody? I don't think so...6 and 8 at Liberty Bell.

With all due respect, I did do my research and I didn't base these on pure times.

Why did I put Johnson and Martin together at 1/2? Because half the time Johnson beats Martin, the other half Martin beats Johnson. Last year, Albequerque had 3 guys that could be their #1 on any day, and the others usually within 5 seconds of him. This year they have two, which are usually within 8 seconds of eachother.

Yes, I am well aware of Page's 40 second split 1-6. That is why they go 3/4/5 against AA, and then a very close race for 6/7/8/9/10, where I just put AA in 6/7 because that's how I think it will go.

If you want to look at times, let's just say for arguements sake that I have Johnson at 15:10. Martin would follow in about 15:14, and then Lomeland and Tsinnijinnie and would follow in about 15:25 and 15:27. Lee comes in at 15:40, Smith and Javier around 16:02, while Cooper comes in around 16:01 and Amerding comes in around 16:05. Bitsoie would come in around 16:10, and then Hauswald probably around 16:20.

What would that give you?

Johnson 15:10
Martin 15:14
Lomeland 15:25
Tsinnijinnie 15:27
Lee 15:40
Cooper 16:01
Smith 16:02
Javier 16:02
Amerding 16:05
Bitsoie 16:10
Hauswald 16:25

AA 1-5 spread: 1:15
Page 1-6 spread: :45

Scoring as a dual would have:
AA - 1,2,6,7,11 = 27
Page - 3,4,5,8,9 = 29

I think that would be a reasonable assessment.

p.s., about the spreads ...

Page had a 40 second spread in ONE race so far. Who is to say they will consistantly be around 40 seconds? I imagine that was a slightly above average race for their #6, and an average race for their front 2.

AA, on the other hand, is a bit less consistant yet doesn't always have such a bad spread.

At Del Norte invite, Hauswald was only 59 seconds behind AA's #1 runner. They had a 1:20 1-5 spread then, but Amerding had an obviously bad day. I would bet that the average spread for this AA team would be closer to 1:10, maybe even just below :50 by the end of the season. For right now, an average spread would probably be around 1:05-1:15. Look for something like that at the Gallup meet.

For those who didn't see yet, Page had a 1:13 spread 1-5 at the Chilne Invite, with everybody running.

I guess they won't stay :40 1-6 every race this year ... darn.

Good sign for AA.

Oh, and more from Liberty Bell ... AA's actual spread, 1-5, was 1:19 (hey, look at that ... very similar to Page's!) with Hauswald only running #6 for them.

Yeah, Eldorado girls did amazing. 20 points with competition like that. The only two that penetrated their pack and prevented a perfect score were Jordan Brown from Gallup and Lyndsay Harper from Academy. Here's some official results for anyone interested.

Girls

1. Julie Brasher Eldorado 19:56.91
2. Erin Madden Eldorado 20:07.04
3. Jordan Brown Gallup 20:07.33
4. Rachel Velarde Eldorado 20:11.96
5. Lyndsay Harper Academy 20:29.26
6. Laynee Valverde Eldorado 20:41.18
7. Allison Bedonie Eldorado 20:46.13
8. Analisa Sandoval Los Alamos 21:00.64
9. Megan Stockton Los Alamos 21:06.36
10. Tarra Brown Gallup 21:13.32?? (typo in the paper, said 21:03.32, so the last two might be mixed up or something of the type.)

1. Eldorado 20
2. Gallup 73
3. Los Alamos 73
4. Academy 77
5. Pojoaque 133

Boys

1. Matt Tebo Eldorado 15:37.45
2. Ben Johnson Academy 16:03.52
3. Ryan McNiff Los Alamos 16:24.89
4. Dustin Martin Academy 16:29.56
5. Simon Gilna Los Alamos 16:38.75
6. Nathan Romero Los Alamos 16:57.98
7. Matt Everett La Cueva 16:59.88
8. Taylor Roholt Sandia Prep 17:00.67
9. Kyle Cooper Academy 17:04.39
10. Chris DeRego La Cueva 17:06.69

1. Academy 39
2. La Cueva 88
3. Los Alamos 100
4. Gallup 119
5. Eldorado 126

Yeah, Matt Tebo did amazingly well on the boys side. He'll be shooting for Shadrack's record at City, to be sure. Academy took their pedestal in New Mexico back in this meet, though I'm sure they aren't running to their full potential yet.
