McCann is a XC runner(had a great season), never much in track. Tolli(Lockport)-4:06.36 was very impressive.

Yeah, I would say that 15:12 is better than anything he did on the track in HS. He did seem to peak his junior year, with the exception of his senior year race at NTN.

7th overall @ a-10 XC Championships, All-Conference as a soph., I wouldn't say he's peaked yet. McCann's all about guts, not speed.

When I visited American, he was a real nice guy. Even though he had just finished a killer workout he took the time to talk to me and give me some great info about the school and the team. It's really nice to see him succeed.

What's wrong with Norfolk State?

I don't think there are many people on par with him talent wise there. Lomong didn't do anything great in the few races he ran there either. The area is not very conducive to running, the only time I visited I wasn't very impressed with running areas.

I'm highly impressed. Beating Lukezic...what was his year?

I saw the race Friday and it was ridiculous. Fennel ran amazing. I THINK (not positive but i thought i saw him) fennel ran the 4x15 earlier in the day at like 4:30.

Wesley Smith from NC State rabbitted through like 6-7 laps at ~4:28 pace for the whole thing, then the pace slowed SLIGHTLY to 4:30-4:31 pace. With maybe four and a half to go Tibor Vegh took the lead from NC State and picked it up slightly.

Tibor wasnt in the lead for all that long and then Lukezic went into the lead and started running 65 low's. He did that for 3 laps and really started to break it open. Eaton looked great and Tibor still looked pretty good too but Fennel had been moving up from literally like 3rd to last the entire race.

Fennel was in fourth at the bell which was probably a 64 high split (I was at the 200m/start line watching). It was Lukezic, Tibor, Eaton, then Fennel at the bell with Fennel a solid 15 meters behind Lukezic and 5 meters behind 3rd at least. Then with 300 to go he started to move. Probably came even with 3rd with 250 to go, then went by second right before 200 to go.

Then it seemed he just realized he thought he could win the race and he started flying. He went by Lukezic with a little under 100 to go and If I had to guess he ran his last 200 in 27 low. Looking real good the whole time, just eating up track on the homstretch. His last mile had to be somewhere around 4:15 cause Lukezics had to be just slightly higher than that cause I remember 3 65 second laps.

Just a great race for Fennel and hopefully he can hold this fitness until NCAA's.

Tim Keegan (freshman) formerly of St.Anthonys did the 10k/5k double at the MAAC Championships this past weekend for Marist...

he set a pr in the 10k running 31:18 and placing 6th

came back the next day to finish 6th in an incredibly tactical 5k

Keegan has also qualified for USATF Jr. Nats in the 10k and just missed the IC4A qualifier in the 10k

other NY runners:

Connor Shelley (soph.) formerly of Kellenburg placed 5th in the 1500 in 3:59? and came back to finish 8th in the 5k i believe

Girma Segni (jr with soph. eligibility) finished 3rd in the tactical 5k, Segni is very close to the NCAA Regional mark in the 5k and has already qualified for IC4A's

I ran an even race for me so it was not a tactical race. The orginal poster was wrong, but upfront it was tactical if you want to use that word. The top four runners had prs much faster than the results indicate. Also, if this is who im almost positive it is great double. 10k maac champ and 2nd in the 5k is a great weekend. Good luck the rest of the season.

He now is in very good position to make the national meet in the steeple. Even if he doesnt finish in the top 5 at regionals he may have run fast enough to get a qualifier now.

Very big run from him. The North Rockland 05 guys seem to be really running well.
