In general what times would you say would be good for an 8th grader running the 800, 1600 and 3200.

I had a pretty good middles school team but that was where most of good runners were. We had a few below and most above but id say those are above average for an 8th grader.

Currently, I have two 8th grade milers running at 5:05 and 5:15 respectively. In the past four years that I have coached, I have had many kids in the 8th grade running about 5:10. The best for me was 4:38 and the worst so far is 5:45. In terms of the 800, I have kids usually running around 2:20. In Illinois at the junior high level, we do not have the 3200.
There was an eight grader back at my home town running 4:40's, and now he's a freshman running low 4:30's. It's all natural talent for him too according to one of his teammates.

A guy on my High School team ran 4:57 in 7th grade. I am one year behing him, and I ran 5:21 in 8th grade. My freshman year, (his soph year), he only ran 4:53 and I ran 4:47, (I'm not saying I'm good or anything, I'm just showing how cruddy my times were in middle school compared to his, and I passed him up): some guys just get stuck. Now he's a senior running 4:30.

Last year in 8th grade my mile PR was 6:28, and there's a kid who was in 7th grade who ran a 5:30. On Sunday, we both ran the mile race on Heartbreak Hill (different age groups), and he was only 1 second ahead of me (5:32,5:33). However, my mile PR is 20 seconds faster than his on a track. I think he'll get close to 5 this year.

8th graders don't run a 3200...Atleast I never did.
I did a 5:27 in 8th grade and I improved nearly 40 seconds this year alone. Middle school track was a joke.

Generally, middle school times don't matter that much

well my personal opinion is that 8th grade times can't really tell you how good a runner can be...but I would say anyone who can run 6:10 for the 1600, around 2:50ish in the 800, and 13ish in the 3200 can develop into a strong athlete in high school...like i said these times may seem slow but that is taking into account little training or running experience....

haha dangg... a 4 32??? in middle school? jeez, im in 8th grade, and i just ran conference today, and i got a 444, but a 432 is like untouchable in middle school. we had some sucky training though, maybe if i trained way more intense than what i had, i couldve gotten into the high 430's
