I was just evacuated from Danbury High school because of a huge bomb threat in the danbury area. Not only was the high school evacuated but also an elementry school. Roads are being closed all over danbury and now i hear helicoptors. Idk if this is going to have an effect on the meet but its just a thought. Things are looking bad now

trumbull is a sick dual meet team, but id be curious to see how they do in championship competition. I know they have ambrose on the track...but besides him who else?
As much as I hate to say it, I agree with you nelson. We have more depth than most, but not many studs who will be in the front. I believe the best times our team has seen this year are:
100 - 11.5
200 - 23.1
400 - 53.1
800 - 2:01.8
1600 - around 4:32
3200 - 9:55
110hh - 15.7
300ih - 42.0
4x1 - around 45
4x4 - I think 3:35
4x8 - 8:08 probably
Long jump - 20'1.5"
Triple jump - 39'.5"
Pole vault - 10'6"
Yeah, we pretty much scrape together our 2nds and 3rds in the duals, we'll see how it goes tomorrow.
EDIT:
Forgot the weights. I think they're some of our strongest point scorers.
Jav - 145'
Disc - 137'
Shot - 43'

Congrats to Danbury and Staples on Class Championships today!!!
Just looking at some results... some fabulous 4x8s by FCIAC teams... Danbury: 8:03.62, Westhill: 8:09.33, Trumbull: 8:15.55, and New Canaan: 8:18.48...
i'm too lazy to look at other times... but it looks like some legit 800s by Ahearn and Boudreau, Staples 4x4 (idk the time), Rosa 6'6" HJ, Marriott 49.95 400 win...
great marks all around, the FCIAC should be well represented at Opens!

The Ridgefield sophomore Connor McCarthy broke the FCIAC record in the 100 with a 10.68. The hand timed record was 10.5 and the FAT time was 10.78 according to the Danbury web site. I know mostly distance runners talk on this web site, but that should be recoginized. They used to put out a list of the top 10 times in state history and I'm sure that time would be on it. Ridgefield won the 100, 200 400 and 4 x 100. When was the last time a non city school did something like that? Also, why didn't Von Ohlsen run the 200, like he did in FCIACs? Ridgefield could have easily gone 1-2 in that event as well. The Tigers used to be a distance powerhouse and now it looks like the times are a changin for them.

NO, Boo errors! Mad people got f*cked over from that stupid CIAC sh*t.
And I'll give you credit where it is clearly due:
Connor and Austin are f*cking disgusting. Somebody PLEASE find a way to convince Connor to stay with track, he could be prolific if he improved his form and quit soccer.
wilson
06-03-2008, 07:09 PM
Most of us think something would go wrong if we screwed with his form. Maybe we could change his arm swing to make it more vertical and less horizontal but he doesn't come to practice so we wouldn't have the time to do it anyway.
And yeah, the record between Austin and Connor when they face each other is something like Austin 4 Connor 2. In our dual meets, they never let them in the same heat of the 100 so that's why they have so few meetings.
Austin has only just begun as well. IMO, he has more upside than Connor because his work ethic is very strong and track is his main sport meanwhile Connor is a soccer player who hates track.

He actually came to practice twice a week during indoor but he only has two days off a week during outdoor and that's Teusdays (dual meet days) and Fridays and he just doesn't come on Fridays. He comes every once in a while to get stretched out or to practice some handoffs or maybe do some blocks for maybe a half hour.
He was there last week the day after FCIACs and all we did was swordfight with some flags. Our fight was pretty equal with him probably taking the victory but he got raped by Austin. Austin has the sickest swordfight moves. He was doing these crazy spin around and Achilles-jump moves. It was insane. Do not **** with him.

point taken, ace. but put yourself in his shoes here. you are a new coach, inheriting a team that finished dead last in conference, scored four points in Class LL, and registered no points at the Open last outdoor. In terms of reviving a dead program and instilling some winning into your new squad, you'd do the same thing.
i get your point. BUT he's taking a chance on a kid who is so involved in something else. not sure it's such a great idea to have different standards just because youre good at it...in fact, it stinks. does the coach spend any time developing "B" level kids in case this one bags it?

Our coach gives Connor less attention (when he's there) than the guys who run 2:20 800's. Don't even try to insinuate that Mac cares nothing about the B team just because he lets a guy who runs a 10.6 100 put our uniform on once a week.

Geez, should be a ridiculously strong conference again next year... i'm looking for people who will obviously move up or down after track this spring and i see no one... and even those who should improve dramatically will have to fight hard to move up with that depth.
Should have a much better idea after a couple of meets though, no matter what it's definitely going to be an incredible season!
On a sidenote, sorry about the lack of updating the site this outdoor season... started out crammed with AP exams and then the 4th quarter push before finals but hopefully next year i'll be taking web design as my super easy senior elective so it would be perfect if i could just spend that class period everyday updating the site! we'll see though, either way, most of xc i'll easily have time to work on it at home.
EDIT: I also like how i'm totally on the All-FCIAC Second Team bubble there in 24th... should be a hard fought season.

All-FCIAC, First Team:
1. Tucker Schaefer, Danbury (16:07)
2. Artem Skobrev, Darien
3. Joey Bubniak, Danbury
4. Reed Bratches, New Canaan
5. Bryan Stephan, Warde
6. Dan Bubniak, Danbury
7. Sam Parton, Warde
8. Kevin Russell, Danbury
9. Christian Kearns, Ridgefield
10. Kevin Sousa, Darien
11. Andrew Erskine, Westhill
12. Julian Saad, Trumbull
13. Michael Ignatowich, Ridgefield
14. Matt Marriott, Staples
15. Richie Hume, Ridgefield
Danbury wins, Ridgefield and Darien fight hard for second, Warde in fourth, New Canaan and Staples battle for fifth.
Probably a little biased, both team and individual.
Are you SERIOUS?
There's no way Artem is beating Joey, Kevin Russell is gonna be top 5, Marriott's gotta go, Saad and Erskine have to be moved up... this list is horrendous.

Dear FCIAC
its been a while.
just a reminder that this weekend is the sidewalk sales at the Runners Roost. Although most of the good shoes are gone (courtesy of some ludlow guys buying ten pairs each yesterday) there are still a few good ones left.
Also, weve been putting out more apparel all day and we have a ton of stuff for 60-70% off, so the deals are absurd.
We also have alot of womens stuff so drive down with your moms and have them get stuff, then buy yours.

Prospect barely beat Bratches i believe... gotta say the first half of that race was the funniest 7 and a half minutes of my running career since Tucker and Reed were singing "you've lost that lovin feelin" the entire race and basically the whole front group, Erskine, Tucker, Joey, Dan, Reed, Prospect, and myself weren't really trying.
Wilton vs. NC was Wilton: 1, 3, 5, 6, 7 and we had 2 & 4 by less than a couple seconds from 1 & 3 respectively.

Anybody got times from Wilton/NC/Dbury?
Not sure on many of the times, i know Prospect and Bratches were both right around 14:23 in 5th & 6th, 9th & 10th were about 14:58 and 15:01... seems kind of inane though because i have no idea what distance that course was. If it was 4k then the times seem way too slow (5:45 pace for Bratches and Prospect) despite the hills.
I updated the website though and added a couple new pages including a "News" page with race summaries. If anyone would like to contribute (anonymously or not) then just write a report and send it to me via PM or email to fciaclists@gmail.com. In my opinion the more race summaries we can get the better the site will be as a resource for the season.

The Danbury course is all on soft thick grass and it is on the side of big hill. There is very little flat and the terrain is rough. Their old 2.7 mile course used to run like 5k times. Its true cross country.

I run for Ludlowe, and our course has changed slightly. Still 5k, but you only have to run Sturgis hill twice as opposed to three times last year. Also we finish with a lap on the track, which kind of sucks, but its nice to have the fans cheering you through the finish.
The top runner came in at 17:27. I beleive that was Darien. I think Darien was first, second was Ridgefield, we were third, and Bassic was last.

Wilton's course is approximately 26 seconds slower than the 4k course at Tarrywile Park... just an observation. It's based upon the median of the differences between the times of the top 20 runners who ran both courses this week.
Data: -10, -9, -1, 5, 5, 10, 12, 23, 24, 24, 28, 31, 34, 39, 48, 49, 49, 50, 63, 105
The average of the first 18 is 22.83 seconds.
Updated statistical rankings, links to results, and a combined FCIAC-only list of results will be on my site later tonight.
Quick question though: is Chris Meskill of St. Joseph's a threat to top-25 at FCIACs?? He's currently ranked 13th statistically with his 17:38 & 4th place against Fairfield Warde

Ridgefield, New Canaan, Greenwich... Ridgefield went 1-2-3-5-6 vs. New Canaan (there may have been a Greenwich runner before their 5th but i'm not sure). New Canaan beat Greenwich 25-30 i believe... wasn't good for us. Luckily last week Reed and I ran decently, i dread to think what would have happened if we had run like today last week.

they were sixth last year... but i know compared to us, at least, Staples' score (24-31) was pretty similar to Warde's (26-33), so I wouldn't be surprised if Staples took fifth or even fourth

does anyone know what happened to Bratches? IMO he hasn't had a great season so far.
Reed was just chillin' in the Danbury meet singing with Tucker, didn't run Wilton Invite, second to Skobrev, second to Stephan, second to Saad, had a bad meet vs. Ridgefield. It's not exactly like he has been losing to people he should beat. Skobrev, Saad, and Stephan are pretty damn good. And he's been running faster times at Waveny than last year that ended with 16:36 at FCIACs.

Agreed I'm ludlowe's #1 right now,top 15, not going to happen. We will be better next year as we don't lose a single runner on our varsity team, and even the year after that we will only be losing like 2 guys.
edit: actually our two juniors are injured right now, so its possible that our entire team at fciacs will be sophomores or freshman.
Note: our coaches screwed up, and in every posted result the ludlowe sophomores are listed as juniors.

Those are my predictions without being bias towards Danbury. Skobrev hasn't lost an FCIAC race this season. The only race that indicates these wouldn't be all out is Danbury's win at the Amherst Invitational where they averaged 15:58... but on that course their JV team averaged 17:35. If i am correct in assuming the JV squad runs all-out in most dual meets, then 17:35 proves that the course was just faster than most making the 15:58 incomparable to the FCIAC course.

Levi Wallace is not better than Skobrev.
Well, seeing how levi is my boy ill argue this, i believe somewhere back there was an argument if whether kruss was better than skobrev comparing artems mile to kruss deuce well in that perspective levi has beat kruss this season thus artem and levi are around the same level, IMO so therefore i believe danbury potentiallyy could put that score up

If Danbury sweeps the top 5 I will wear a florescent yellow long-sleeved shirt and pink short shorts for the remainder of the afternoon (including for the awards ceremony)
Pip - I apologize for not realizing Roche was up there now... put him right ahead of Matt and shift everyone down one and there are my new predictions.
As for the Danbury guys, I'll believe they're all capable of top-10 when I see it but based on dual meet results (which they didn't even finish in a pack) I don't think it's possible to take 50% of the top-10... and if this makes you all run faster, so be it.

I remember a day when Danbury was not only good but modest.
Just my two cents.

Don't hate on us because of what our alumni post on these boards that don't determine anything in the real race. People keep talking about how Danbury isn't going to do well but then they don't back it up with who is. So please, nctrackie19, are your predictions based on duel meet results or invites also? I do agree with most of you that we can be cocky at times (hence why we all changed our facebook names to cocky) but these are online message boards and not real life so chillax. Good luck to ALL runners and teams tomorrow and let's have a fast, competitive race. PEACE!

LOL to people who believe artem will win, he will do well but victory will not be his
joey and tucker will certainly go 1-2
and i wouldnt be highly shocked if dbub kruss and levi were up in that top ten (or higher) with them

My predictions are based mostly on dual meets but in my opinion Danbury isn't quite as insanely amazing as everyone is saying. Like i said yesterday, the 15:58 average at Amherst is a poor reflection of an accurate 5k average... i think the average will be 16:20 or higher at Waveny. It's possible that Kevin and Levi go top 10 tomorrow and i won't be surprised if they do, but they'll have to run 16:35 to do it... and a sweep is a ridiculous proposition.
On a little side-note here, the Naugatuck Valley League meet had 36 guys break 19 minutes today at Veteran's Memorial Park, the Constitution State Conference meet at Wickham saw only 4 guys break 19... last year between the varsity and jv races we had 104 runners break 19.
Let's be proud of our very competitive conference, our awesome xc course that (weather permitting) should be LIGHTNING fast tomorrow (not being bias at all ), and let's all run to the best of our abilities to make tomorrow's race the race it is capable of being. So far it's certainly the most hyped up meet I have witnessed in the FCIAC...
Good luck to EVERYONE tomorrow!!!

Really, I've tried to be good here. But, do they teach English at Danbury High School. Is it a required subject?
Quote " (not being bias at all ), in this particular part of speech, you should say Mr. Michael Scott "I'm not being biased at all".
To be is not to be "biased"
If you'd like to, you can not show "bias".
What is a Danbury degree worth these days .... my god ...
And don't tell me this is some sort of current internet speak .... you need to improve your knowledge of the English language.
What you need to do is stay the **** outta my business, cuz i aint feelin fake with these peckawoods... mkay...mkay

The name 'Mad Hatter' was undoubtedly inspired by the phrase "as mad as a hatter". Mercury was used in the process of curing felt used in some hats. It was impossible for hatters to avoid inhaling the mercury fumes given off during the hat making process. Hatters and mill workers often suffered mercury poisoning as residual mercury vapor caused neurological damage including confused speech and distorted vision. It was not unusual then for hatters to appear disturbed or mentally confused....
