Just to let you know of a few thing that have happened here at the world championships. On the first day in the men's 1500 trials, Alan Webb was leading the first trial with a lap to go. He closed in 55 and was passed by 5 people, he did advance based on his time. The other two Americans advanced as well. In the final event of the night, the women's 10K, the last lap was run by the winner in 59. The US men's 400 hurdlers looked very good. On Sunday, Gatlin looked very good in winning the 100. He did not get a good start and still won by .17 seconds. That is the biggest margin of victory in the men's 100 in the history of the world's. Tonight's (Monday's) finals include the women's 100, steeple and high jump. All 3 women have advanced into the 100 semis, which will later be followed by the finals, 2 Americans in both the steeple and high jump. Howard looked better than Acuff in the trials, but Besquist of Sweden looked the best of all. For the men we have the hammer and 10K final. There will also be trials in the men's 1500 and women's 400 tonight. Decathlon starts tommorow. Yesterday's major diasppointment was that although O'Hara and Scwartz advanced in the women's vault, Dragila did not. She never did look crisp as she missed once at the opening hight and made two heights on her third attempt including the last height she made in which she smacked the croosbar and somehow it stayed on. Tonight's session starts in a little more than 4 hours and it has been raining all day, sometimes it is a light drizzle and sometimes, as it is right now, fairly hard. Oh well, this weather makes me think I am home in Maine. I think I might be late for xc practice on Monday.

they're being televised on the PAX channel, which I have not even turned to in years and thought that they were bought out or something but it turns out its like channel 23 for me at home. I've been watching it for the two days the champs have been on and the coverage is not that special. They hardly show half of each distance race and the announcers are not very good. I guess that can be expected from a low grade network

Good night for the American women as Williams takes the gold in the 100 and Howard the silver in the high jump. Also all the 400 runners advance to Wednesday's final. Bekele of Ethiopia defends his men's 10K crown win a 54 final lap. Hamer throw was excellent as Tikhon of Belarus set a meet record. Tonight's finals include womens 800 and mens 400 hurdles.

Just a fan. Great perfoamce by Madison in the long jump last night. Great effort by Webb, just cam from a luncheon that included Webb, Jackson, 400 hurdles gold and Williams 100 gold. Also for oldtimers there was Edwin MOses and Renaldo Nehemiah. Got to go see the mens 200.

This will probably be my last post. It is is Saturday morning and getting ready for the men's marathon. Last few night great efforts by the US in the mens 200 and 400. Felix really opened up in the stretch in the women's 200. Warriner looked great in the 400, both high hurdle races were really tight. US men in the 400 relay messed up the handoffs although no one seemed that surprised. US women looked great in their relay, Jamaica messed up their fianl handoff but still got in so they may be the favorite. Sunday night the men's 800 may be the best race with Ramsey of Bahrain who won the 1500 will go for the double. Also tomorrow the women's marathon will have Levan from Wiscasset, Maine. I leave for the airport at 4:40 Monday morning. I may be late for xc practice.
