View Full Version : Calf Strengthening

I'm looking for ways to strengthen my calves. I've always been a heel-striker up until this year, when I started working on my form. I can strike midfoot for distances up to 800m, but anything longer than that my calves aren't strong enough and I'm kind of forced to land on my heels, which feels kind of uncomfortable.

What can I do strengthen my calves? (both running and non-running exercises)

I'm planning on incorporating barefoot running into my summer training. I'll do 4-6 barefoot strides after my run, and then some barefoot jogging, starting at 800m and building up a little bit.

Does anyone know of some strengthening exercises/drills/lifts that would help?

running in spikes during practice. Dont do it too much before a meet but it got me used to it come the races. Calf raises also work though.

QFE. Race pace work should always be done in what you plan on racing in (shoes wise).
