Hey, this was a pretty good feat for Culp. Things went well today. On a scale of 1-5, he ran like a 4.25. Really good effort.

Keep talkin' **** from behind your computer, Wizard, get out from behind it and see what's up.

All that I'm trying to say is that we're giving way too much positive reinforcement (sp?), making an extraordinary deal out of 4th place. If stizz did .02 better at indoor states, it would be like someone making a big deal out of you being the best finishing ****** in the 6. "Best finish for an American in this race in 14 years." He still didn't win. The media and everybody posting are just excusing his failure. Since when has being American been a disability?

In track, it's been a disability since the Kenyans started running...

And c'mon, what do you expect from Wizard?

The only "disability" could be that the $100,000 prize may mean more to the Kenyans than it does to Americans. It's their drive that beats us. If we put any emphasis on it, I believe the playing field would be level.

- And that's why you're a sprinter. It's not as easy as it sounds. They are physically built "faster" than the average American, like it or not.

- I'm not talkin' any trash, I just don't think you should be downing the best American finisher in the Boston Marathon since 1989 (or is it 91?) simply because he didn't win---when you may not even be able to finish one.

- Watch it clifbar.

I'm not downing him at all, but you said it yourself, he is the best American finisher. Its nice that he did what he did, but there's no sub-catagory in the marathon, and there shouldn't be one in our eyes, either.

Hey, if a white British guy got 3rd or 4th to Gatlin, Montgomery, Crawford, Spearmon, Gay, XMan (all black Americans) in a 100m I'm sure the Britons would be making a big deal about it. Why? Because historically, black Americans have dominated the sprints in international competition.

This is the same thing. Historically, Africans, South Koreans, and Mid-Easterners have done well in Boston. For a white American to do well is big news. It just doesn't happen too often.

No offense to stizz (I'm sure he can appreciate Culp's run too), but trying to compare what a high school athlete is doing compared to a professional marathoner in a prestigous event is asinine.

What a hater.

Do you get your kicks out of watching sports just so you can criticize anyone who isn't champion of the world? Does that make you feel superior? You can look down on everyone because they didn't win the big one.

So you are saying that Culpepper did nothing special. But that line of reasoning everyone one your team mates, every conference champion, every state champion, every national champion are also nothing becuase they are not world champion.

Why would an American even want to try the marathon if 4th place at Boston, behind one Ethiopian and two Kenyans, merits only scorn.

If you understood running at all, you would appreciate what an acheivement Culpepper's run was.

No hating involved. It is special. But my real quarrel stems from watching the marathon. Half of the coverage was Culpepper. If there was one person trailing the pack of six and he were not American, I doubt he cross any of the broadcaster's minds. But you coudlnt watch for two minutes without hearing "Where's Culpepper?", or, "Can you get a shot of Culpepper, how's he doing?."

He is the 4th best Boston Marathoner of 2005. And he happens to be a white American. Being the 4th best Boston Marathoner of 2005 IS a great accomplishment, don't get me wrong, but being American is no feat.

Okay, that makes way more sense than just saying "lets see him win".

I didn't see the TV coverage, it sounds annoying.

Let's wish Alan Culpepper even more success in his future racing.

At least Culpepper has found a race distance where he won't automatically bitch out against the better competition (cough, every summer in Europe, cough,)
