I'm not but I did all 4 years in high school. It's a fairly fast course, good competition.

Craig Miller's 14:56 from 2005. The meet has an incredible archive of stats (top 100 times in each class, top 50 team averages, etc.) but I can't find the link right now.

I love the entire course besides the fact that you have to get out fast because of the trail thought the woods.

Altoona who just came off a big win is probably going there as is Carlisle, a team with very big goals. They may be starting their season at Gettysburg.

The meet always brings in great competition.

Is Getttysburg where Miller first broke onto the PA scene as a freshman? It was clear after his first invitational that he was going to challenge for the state title.

Edit:

It was.

yea, he pretty much dominated all 4 years. I remember my senior year (and his) we saw prior to the races they had a trophy made for him and his 4 straight victories. I was rooting for McNally that day.

I'll be going to Altoona invite as well but that invite isn't as good.

Dover
I think we are called Dover Senior during this meet because of Dover, Delaware.
We have two maybe three guys that can get a medal but we have a important meet on tuesday so I'll won't take it super hard but still try to medal.

so not sure how the rain was there, but times were slowish. CV guys looked good and for the second straight week Berks County school Conrad Wiser dominates. They should get some votes this week. Carlisle's top 3 were intense, but then it was bad for 4-5. If by some chance their 4-5 can move up wow, they will be VERY GOOD. Altoona still solid but not as strong as I thought.

CV girls were my pick but they get beat even after a very good run. They are a team that is good at being good late, so I still have an eye on them.

And finally a junior from my team posted a solid time and won the small schools race and my (former) HS team won.

times were slow? it looks to me like the top 3 teams all averaged faster than cumberland valley did last year when they won. i didn't really look at the previous years, but i guess they probably averaged slower then cville in '06.

edit: never mind you're right the times were fairly slow

Two weeks ago, who would have put Mike Pierce on the shortlist of contenders for the state title? He definitely deserves to be there now.

Also not to muddle boards but while it's in my head Pat here's my take on what you said on the CL thread. I half agree. The league is deeper than ever this fall, but like penntrack itself, just not the same. There's no team that can really bang with the big boys at states like Haverford a few years back and Haven two years ago, but there very well may be six CL teams in the top 20 in at districts.

I was just going to post pretty much the same thing about Pierce. As of right now he IS the favorite at states, a lot of guys still haven't raced yet. And all I know is Furcht won at Abington but can't find a time. Things will sure shake up in a few weeks but Pierce has been the best the first two weeks. He smoked Joe Soda. Next weekend at DeSales should be the first indictation of individuals with a lot of talent going to be there. Pierce will go head to head with a lot of good guys like Palmisano, Mahoney, Wallace, etc.

Miles won CB East pretty handily but his time was one of the slowest winning times ever there. For the second straight week in a row no race from Faucette so he must be injured since Desko has raced twice.

When/where does Tarsnane open his season?

Joe Bev. started slow last year too, not a huge surprise to me. Also, in terms of AA he is still just about the only thing going.

Since Miller ran 14:55 he senior year that meet has been slow. Also District III has been down since that year too. District III used to be THE district.

no, i agree, there is not team that is more than 4 guys deep right now in the central league, but there are 6 teams that are very good through 3 guys. it's an odd combo.

The past few years the power had shifted in D1 to the west side of the district being the Chesmont/Central League. But starting last year and I think continued through this year the power is going to be back in the SOL. The best teams in the district this year look to me to be North Penn, Council Rock North, Hatboro Horsham. HGP is very good and most of those kids are SOL kids. There are still some very good teams out of the Chesmont/Central League but I could see a 1-2-3 sweep from the SOL. Henderson though will be traditionally very good but Coatesville looks to be in a bit of a down year.

As far at the times at Gettysburg maniac is right. Since Miller popped that insane 14:56 the times have been very slow. But Pierce did beat some pretty good comp. I thought for sure Bev would have won this race but I am thinking being AA he is looking more at FL than September. Although I think Jim Spisak will give him a good race and should not be forgotten in AA.

i will not doubt beveridge after last year. he obviously had outdoor states on his mind from the minute xc season ended. his improvement from the beginning of indoors to end of outdoors was amazing.

Well I sucked at Gettysburg. I got 34th place in the elite heat. I got caught in traffic at the begining which throw my whole race off. I also ran 5 miles in less then 30 minutes the day before.

Mike Pierce would go to Council Rock South. He lives less than five minutes away from my house. He went to Holy Ghost so he could play baseball there. ****.

Not sure about the other HGP guys where they live...

I talked to my HS team who was there and they said it was worse as the day went on. So most of the big races weren't too bad, as it hadn't really rained much before the races started. Either way it wasn't nice.

This IMO is one of the top 5 most important races of the year in PA, save any of the post season meets.

The course wasn't bad when I ran but I was the first high school heat to run
so I'm sure it got worse as people ran on it.
