We should put everyone in their absolute worst events. that would be funny.

I like that idea. Shot putters in the DMR and me in the shot put. Or will the time will be right for my stunning 4x1 debut...

I think having all star relays would be sick though. Like Benjamin/Boutin/Linden/Stein in a 4 by 8, it would go like 7:52. or maybe Gerald/Sean K/Peter Rice/B. Wang in a 4 by 4, 3:20flat...

Jack I'm thinking all star relays at USATF NE's or even baystates (dont know if they have relays tho??) and just ruin everyone

I think that lines up nicely with the end of the season mid june so like 2 weeks after all states altho if its like last year NE's lined up on top of nationals so it could get tough

If you do some of those USATF meets, you'd have to sign up with the USATF as a track club, which is easy to do - but you'd need a name (DCL All-Stars or Striders or TC or something). It costs about $75 to register, and you need to have a USATF member to sponsor it - not a big deal.

All star relays would be sweet. I'm down for a 4xMile. Or, once we see who's interested, match up teams to try and create close races (if there's enough people).

Also, Bedford has a track, it's not that bad. However, there is no PV (Town of Bedford voted against it a few years back I think) and there is no mile or two mile measured, so we run 1600 or 3200 if there's a meet (last was in '06). CC has a pretty nice track, also.

For places to have the relays, Bedford would be a possiblilty if it has all the relay measurements. WA's track is decent, but not in the overall greatest shape. The tracks i remember being of the best quality were LS's(which looked pretty new), when i raced at AB in middle school it seemed nice. CC's track is nice(and my dad lives across the street from it). When i saw the track over the winter, it seems in good condition, but the Big lane numbers are a bit worn, but i could read most of the Relay start places. I would say CC seems like a logical choice for it, if it happens. It is also at a park, which means a lot of space, to warm up and stuff, But i don't remember there being any large parking lots nearby except for the HS which is like a quarter mile down the road. It is also i think the easiest to find, (off route 2, then so is AB's). Also for choice we should take into consideration time traveled, like which place is the easiest to find. Concord is a 20-25 minute drive from Westford, and probably like 15 minutes from AB. I think Concord borders Lincoln. I think the idea of having the relays is great, and will be a chance for some friendly and fun competition.

Gerald has run a 49. before in an open 400. Sean Kleeman has run a 36.low in the 300, Peter has split a 50., run a 22.7 in the 200, a 36.2 in the 300, and a 1:23 in the 600, Bryant has split a 51.
That is pretty funny isn't it?

I think that should be the deciding factor... if this is a "fun" relay meet lets not get picky about marked distances and track quality, lets just find a convenient place for everyone to meet.

Either way, he definitely will this outdoor.

As far as location, I think Newton South is in a pretty good spot and we have a ton of open space (both field and parking) near the track. The only issue is that the track isn't too good, but it should still be in decent condition by then.

Another idea I had as far as relays is that we could just do strange distances, like 4x600 or a modified DMR - 1000-300-600-1400 (something like that)

the usatf newengland info is under the junior olympics tab

http://www.usatfne.org/jo/

On the schedule it lists the meet at Fitchburg State
on June 22, 2008
which is a Sunday.

Past meets have been on Saturdays, so I'm not sure this is right.

My guess is the meet would be either

Saturday, June 14 or Saturday, June 21.

Yeah, I know what ya mean man. I can finally start running again on Tuesday after a lower back injury that i suffered late in the indoor season that left me out for 8 weeks. I'm pretty confident, though, that it won't effect how I do this season - I'm pretty much 100% now after rehab and A LOT of core strength work.

Staying healthy sounds like a good goal to have. Indoor season definitely takes its toll on a body, particularly in the sprints.

I've lost track of how many hamstring pulls I've seen or heard about during this past indoor season- it's been a lot. And, running in the cold weather of the early outdoor meets can present a real injury hazard. Y'all be careful.

Yeah man, I really want to regain that feeling also... and for me that will probably have to be through my own success... so i guess its hard for me to escape the whole feeling of business.

but I also want to try some different distances. I'm getting a chance to work with the sprinters again, something I haven't done for two years, so that should be interesting.

Since the beginning of the school year. and their cross country team wasn't the hottest thing around, but track could be different.

Tyngsboro? Since when? Anyone know if they any good?

I'm coaching at Tyngsboro about 3 days a week, and they're ok for a small school. their guys and girls teams combine for about 60 kids. It looks like they're probably going to be better in distance than in sprints. I'm teaching them the jumping events, and none of them really know what they're doing, because they haven't had a real jumping field events coach before, so it's been a difficult process. They'll give BL, bedford, and maybe Weston some competition. We'll see how they are against the larger schools Saturday at the scrimmage.

Still, i don't think they want to risk injury over a meaningless scrimmage meet if the weather is terrible.

On the subject of the weekend scrimmages, Tyngsboro will not be attending saturday's scrimmage. I just found this out today when I talked to the head coach. He apparently just found out today or something that the meet was ever scheduled. he said "it's not on my schedule, so we're not going." His main reason for not going is because they have a meet against Ayer on Friday. It's a rescheduled meet that was originally supposed to be last friday, but was postponed because it was a little rainy. Tyngsboro also had a meet against Groton-Dunstable Tuesday, which I was not able to attend. I did hear that it didn't go so well, though. They lost by around 70 points. I don't know why they have all these meets against non-league opponents, which they consider more important than a scrimmage against the teams in their league, especially since it's their first year in this league, and it's their only pre-season opportunity to see what the level of competition is like. I guess we'll have to wait until Tuesday to see how Tyngsboro will do in the DCL.

Yessirrrr, as for myself, I will be doubling with some combination, possibly 400/800, 400/2mile, or 200/400. Teddy will probably be doing the mile, as will Dan Grant, but don't rule out a possible mile/2mile double for D. Grant.
anything could happen...
what's Bootykins doing?
and Alex Linden?
what if it was a rematch of the three of us in an event together? I wonder who would turn out the strongest now hahaha.

I dont know what boutin is doing, but I would assume maybe the mile, or two mile. Not sure though. As of right now i am running the mile. And then maybe a 4x4. My coach is entering like 3-4 4x4 this meet. So i am on an underclassman one. I can probably run inside 65. It should be a blast, and perfect weather for it too.

In his first high school mile and after not doing indoor track one of the messina twins, not sure if it was mike or steve they look the same, ran a 4:58

In the two mile though they didnt score any points sophomore John Wells ran a 10:35ish, and freshman John "Slick Willy" Ryan droped a 10:27 or 29

And the one guy who always comes through big for us Alex Pfister trucked his way to a 53.3 relay split in the 4X400 to get us the lead handing off to marc boutin

Also just out of curiosity anyone know how the 300 and 110 hurdles went at the other meets I know Yong ran well but how bout any of the other guys times

like i said earlier i was partially blind so i didnt happen to see where people finished and what times were i do know that zhang ran a 4:51 which was a pr by a second or so but it was a tough way to pr because the pack seemed to split in front of him and go to the sub 4:45 kids and behind him to the 4:55+ group so he ran alone with literally no other competitors around him and ran a tough pr

That's impressive about Brewer because he's new to hurdling also.
Dan Grant ran the 800 in 2:05 behind Cutting.
Linden ran a 53high/54 in the 400.
The rest of those guys were all in the 2 mile.
Barnes - 10:07
Teddy - 10:11

Ravesi - 10:20?
That was the order but I'm not sure on times.

I'm guessing that team included Aly Venti and Emily Johnson.
Pretty good performers, that's ~5:22 for each 1600 leg

McChesney's girls definitely have a shot at that record this year and next. They already ran 20:49 at NSIC, and that was a pretty big underperformance. If they go anywhere close to all out they'll easily break the record, with 5 girls currently under 5:20 and one of them under 5:00.

It's starnge to see anyone beat LS, but Westford deserves more love across the state for what they've been able to do since this winter. This is a huge win for those girls. I'm not sure of all the performances, but it must have taken an incredible effort to knock LS off. Way to go for all three teams in an incredibly competitive dual meet in April!

Emily Cacciatore, Karen Nallem and Cassie Ryding scored a lot of points for WA - all very talented and versatile across sprints, hurdles and field events. I think Cassie set the school record in the 100m hurdles.

There are a lot of pockets of talent out there in the DCL that don't always get recognized (and should) - Wayland has some tremendous javelin throwers.

I agree. For a team that won the D2 indoor title and came in fourth in the all-state meet they don't get a whole lot of attention.

LS made a mistake in indoor in a bad baton pass in the 4x4 and lost to NS. This time I heard the LS coaches forgot the pole vault weight forms so they were not allowed to compete in an event in which they have traditionally been very strong. If true, that mistake likely cost them this meet. Nobody is perfect so these things happen, but there is no room for error in the DCL, as DCL teams went 2,3,4 at the indoor all-state meet, won both the D1 and D2 indoor titles, and have won five of the last seven all-state titles in XC, indoor, and outdoor. Its just plain brutal out there.

Maybe it makes more of a difference when your running at max speed (and by 'you' I mean someone who has a max speed faster than mine, which is most people here), but I've never really been effected by it. I don't think that it's more than an inch or two deep and it's spread out over a few meters. However, that's only one poor aspect of our crappy track.

If anyone who was at Weston posted guys DCL times in the 400 on up, that would be much appreciated. our coaches decided on not going yesterday, which was an interesting choice to say the least.

Long 2:01
Cuttings 2:01

Cha 2:03?

I think that's how it went down DCL-wise.

Not sure where Lil Stizz fits in.

Gerald went out in about 59 for the 400 and went through the 600 in 1:29 before dying terribly in the last 100 meters. He was pretty tired afterwards, but I think he can definitely improve on that with more experience.

I might be wrong with some of these but this is my best recollection

400- wasn't really watching(it was just before the 800)
53.4 John M. Newton South JR
55/56 Ben Siefer Newton South JR

800 -
I'm pretty sure Stein was third in 1:59/2:00
I think Linden was 5th in 2:00
Pretty sure Divino was 7th with a 2:01 low
I was 9th in 2:01/2:02
Gerald faded from 3rd to 11th in the last 50 meters but still ran 2:02
Then came Ben Cuttings and Will in 2:03

The race was pretty much a giant pack for the first 600 meters and then it spread all over the place in the last straight-away. I think the first 200 was a 28. Leader went through the 400 in 57, I dead last in 59, then I passed like 4 or 5 kids and hit 1:28 so leaders were probably 1:26/27, and then everyone finished

Mile
Boutin ran with the lead pack of 5 the whole time to finish in 4:29/31 i think
John Beck was chasing the pack the whole time and ran 4:36 with Yugi just behind in 4:38. In the next heat Ben Finch ran 4:40, Heeble from LS ran 4:45, Cliff ran 4:48, Ravesi ran 4:49/50? I didn't catch where SKillman finished.
I think the lead pack hit like 2:14 and then negative split to run just over 2:20

2 Mile
I didn't see the first half of the race but I know they hit 6:00 for 2000 so thats right on pace for like 9:40. The order at this point was Wortham, Gault, Shoemaker and Fen. I think Jon beat Andrew in the last step, running 9:40. Cameron pulled away from Jake in the last 100 to run a 10 second PR of 9:50.

I didn't catch the 4x1s or 4x4s really but I know NS was third in the 4x4 and ran 3:31. NS finished second in the 4x8 in 8:30.

All in all a pretty sweet day for the DCL distance crew. Everyone else really rocked the house too. The DCL Championship is going to be pretty intense this year.

In the mile, Ravesi was thrown into the 1st heat for some reason, even though his seed should have had him in the 2nd. He wound up running 4:58 (according to the results that were taped up).
The 2nd heat included Finch, Hebble, Zhang, and me. I was pretty close to Zhang for most of the race but pulled ahead of him the last 600 meters. I remember going into the 3rd lap and seeing Ben in the lead. In the end, Ben finished 3rd in our heat in 4:41, Hebble ran a 4:45, I was next in 4:48, and then Zhang was behind me in about 4:50.

If you look closely, Hebble, Zhang, and I are visible in the back.
In the final heat, Boutin ran 4:30.x, John Beck was around 4:35, followed by Skillman, and then Yuji in 4:41.

Thanks for the updates guys, Divino's a surprise huh? He's been running exceptionally. Gerald's a smart runner and through the 600 at least his splits were very even. Nice p.r. in the open 8 Sasha, by the way.

yeah phil's been running rediculous lately, he must be eating his wheaties every morning. he's been pr'ing by ALOT in every race he's run lately. i think his previous best was 2:06 or 2:07. im excited to see what he'll do by the end of the season. sorry is this is turning into a lil bit of a ramble bout phil its just nice to see him improving this much, he's been working exceptionally hard

dual meet results from wa vs. ns??

wa_two_miler91
05-07-2008, 08:59 PM
Lots of Prs. Almost universal. It was truly spectacular, and i am glad to have been a part of the team. We had kids drop 4 seconds in the 800 to as big as 10-20 seconds in the mile. In the 300 hurdles i believe Matt Ricketson dropped 2 seconds and placed second. Which i think was quite impressive. I don't feel like typing out all the results, but this is what i remember.
800:
Greg Hartofelis in 2:02(great running by him)
Then two NS runners(i am sorry i don't know your names)
Mile:
Boutin 4:32
Followed by a few NS(sorry i don't know your names)
Zhang was 4:48 i believe a PR.
2 mile:
Wortham(i think not sure)
Cameron(again not sure if its the right person)
Boutin 10:33(?) i believe

Believe a school record in boys 4x100.
A lot more PR's it was impressive. I cant be more proud of my team right now, it was universal i cant really stress that enough.

NS girls win in a squeaker.

WA boys were pretty dominant. Throws, jumps, sprints, distance.

Some stuff, I caught - Wortham (NS) 9:45.3 in the 2 mile. Yong Cho (NS) 14.3 in the hurdles, 4x1 WA must've been around 44.0 or 43.high, 4x4 NS in 3:29.2 (my watch). Max (WA)/ James (NS) 1-2 by a hair (opposite order of Weston Twi, but also by a hair) 10.94/10.95, Pfister (WA) 156 in the jav.

I'd heard some WA seniors won't be at the DCL champs because of a DisneyWorld trip (?) say it ain't so!

Congrats to WA. It was a good meet and you guys really brought your "A game", pulling out firsts in every event up until the 110h.
I personally was surprised by Hartofelis, who pulled off a pretty big kick against Sasha. The two of them and Will went by the 600 in around 1:30, with Harto pulling away from Sasha over the last hundred and finishing around 2:01. Sasha ran about 2:02 and Will about 2:03-2:04.

The mile was a ridiculous race though. Yuji and Boutin went through the 400 in 64 before Marc took the lead (I think). John then tried to stay up with him, but Marc ran away from the pack finishing in 4:32. Yuji outkicked John for a 4:39 to John's 4:40. Ben finished in 4:41, followed by Igal Bubar PR'ing massively (and putting two seconds on me in the last 100) in 4:45, me in 4:47, Zhang in 4:48, and Aden Forrow in 4:49.
In the two mile Andrew and Cameron took it out at a blistering pace, going through the 800 in about 2:20. They passed the mile at around 4:49 and then Cameron started to fall back, finishing in 10:05. Andrew held onto the pace, running 9:45. Marcus Schneider ran a nice PR of 10:36, finishing about 5 seconds behind Boutin.
In total, NS had 8 guys at 4:50 or under for the mile today, two of them doing it the first half of the two-mile.

EDIT:
also worth noting is that our 'A' 4x4 ran 3:28 and our 'B' ran 3:43

I know what you mean but also if you think about indoor i ran 8.1 and bryant and yong were about .4 to .5 seconds ahead of me so now in outdoor with the longer race i can close out a race without losing much ground over the last 5 hurdles just because of my leg length making the stride pattern much more relaxed, even though they are faster and technically better than i am. so if you think about it im not sure if this is so much of a improvement as just getting myself back on track ...

but again i do agree with you that the times seemed a little fast and if it was electronic i would go with a little more than a .24 error margin probably more like .35, .4 so think probly 15.2 range if it was electronic

LS 73 NS 72
Many would say that the Lincoln-Sudbury vs Newton South girls dual meet came down to the 4 x 400 relay. I always say that a meet like this comes down to 17 events. The meet was very close the entire way with tiny shifts in momentum. Looking back at the results I can see where LS won it going into the relays. These relays do give a hint of how good this meet was and they do put closure to the competition. In the 4 x 100 Newton South came from behind to win at the wire with both teams clocked in 50.0 (I had 49.97). The LS girls really made that exciting with a huge effort. In the 4 x 400 LS held the slight lead the entire way and pulled us along (thanks for getting us a great time). We were without our normal anchor so I was thrilled with this race. LS won in 4:00.1 and we ran 4:02.6. Not bad for a dual meet.

I am breaking my own rule of not posting to say congratulations to the Lincoln-Sudbury and Westford girls teams for becoming DCL regular season champions along with us. In my 19 years at South we have never been in a dual meet of the quality of either of our meets against your incredible teams (we have been in some great meets over the years). To have the pleasure to compete in two meets of that caliber amazes me. You are two great teams and both deserve a piece of the title.
Again great job!

P.S. Kids, please don't PM me. I will see you at meets. thanks.

Nearly all the seniors will be at Disney. But they will be training when they are down their, and will be back for the class meet. They earned it. It was a great regular season for us, a lot of people really stepped up, and made this year incredible.
