Long Island has undoubtedly produced a great number of very talented and prolific track runners over the last several decades. John Gregorek and Mark Belger are two phenomenal runners who come to mind. They had amazing success at the high school, college, and national level, as well as, being Olympians! Do any other names come to mind?

He's a non-runner, but Al Oerter of Sewanaka - a 4 time Olympic Gold Medalist in the discus is the standard-bearer in this category.

Derrick Adkins (Malverne) Gold Medalist in Atlanta in the 400H.

Anthony Famiglietti (Patchogue-Medford grad) just ran at the 2004 OG in the Steeple.

Those are just a few off the top of my head...

I almost forgot about Willie Smith from Uniondale High School who was a world class sprinter at Auburn and had the fastest 400 meter time in the world back in the late 70's-44 and change!

Hey Kevin T-Matt Centrowitz went to Power Memorial in NYC. By the way, tell your dad Andy U. from the Sunken Meadow meets says hello. I ran for Great Neck South in the 70's and ran against him at Sunken Meadow on occasion.

What about Anthony Tuffariello from Hewlett HS. He ran 46.09 as a senior, went on to Villanova. I saw him run in the Champs in 1976 or 1977 at the Merchant Marine Academy. In the 4x200 he took the baton several meters behind Paul Lankford (went on to play in the NFL) and passed Lankford for the win. Any other stories about these runners
