they weren't too fast i'm not sure about our DMR relay, but i ran a comfortable 4:40 for the mile leg, and our 4x4 was 3:42 but that was missing one of our main guys.

Did anyone else have a meet today? It was the first meet of the year for us and it took place at Winnisquam. The conditions were horrible and it literally started to snow halfway through the meet. This Thursday we have the first home meet at my school in two years! We finnaly get to test out our new track and I can't wait. Anyone coming to Gilford on Thursday?

To the seniors out there: what is the verdict on college decisions? Do you plan to continue running during the next 4 years? Let's hear the BIG plan.
I'll start. I remain undecided about school next year. It has come down to a race between Bentley and Brandeis, two schools about 5 miles away from each other in Waltham, Mass.. Bentley is strictly Business and offers a Master's Degree in 5 years. It is also D2. Brandeis is Jewish and 100% liberal arts and definintely requires grad school. Brandeis is D3. I don't know why it is such a difficult decision, but I probably won't be making it until around May 1st.

It may not have been a big meet, but we only lost to Laconia which is class I. Hopefully we will do well int he class M meet.

04-15-2005, 08:04 PM
^lol...yea Winnisquam does have a really nice track. They aren't so bad this year because you are allowed to walk on the infield. THe only problem I have with Winnisqaum is that they only have one gate for one side of the fence, which makes what should be a short walk, really long. Especially for us lazy pole vaulters :p

Is anyone besides me really enjoying their season thus far? Where are all the posts about the intense after-school duel meets and slow early spring invitationals? Well, I have a neat story... sorta. Actually, its only cool for ConVal but here it is. If anyone checked the results to the Coe-Brown invite, you would see CV's 4x4 team got destroyed by Merrimack Valley, so today at a small meet against them, we both put together our best 4x400 teams and ran mighty fast. We had anchor leg Ben Jenkins run a split of 51.7 to close out a 3:34 which was nearly a school record. Not too shabby, at least for a Tuesday meet.
I would also like to mention that the meet was at Hollis/Brookline which is the site of this year's Class I Championships. The track is fast and has a lot of grip but I think there is a tendency for a headwind down the back straight.

Is anyone else amazed by freshman Matt Paulson's 1:58 last week? if anyone has details about the race id like to hear them...kid's pretty good
I was in his race Tuesday at Central. Basically he took off really fast at the starting line and Brendan Cofrin tried to stay with him. All of the other “fast” kids had already run the 1600, so it was pretty much just Cofrin and Paulson on the first lap with Cofrin trailing by a second. I think the first lap for them was 58ish. In the second lap Cofrin started to die and Paulson found another gear and kicked it to the finish. I was amazed to see him take off as fast as he did, he had a 15 meter lead on the second pack by the 100 m mark.
Who from your team is running the 1500 A and B race this Tuesday at the decathlon?

LongRedLine4H
05-04-2005, 06:31 PM
Craig MacPherson, if we're going to be friendly (and if no one is a sexual predator who prefers us skin-and-bones distance types). My PR in the 800 is 2:03 (Haverhill Invite. . .what a good day) and in the 1600 4.32.9 (last night against Timberlane in a duel meet {dual meet?}) if anyone is curious.
Unless I'm mistaken, the Freshmen/Sophomore Meet is this Saturday. . .fess up, people. What have your teams got for young distance runners. I'll probably be running the 8 and the 4X400, although I'm trying to get my coach to let me in the 16 and 4X800.
ForNH
05-04-2005, 06:56 PM
I wouldn't get too cocky out there. Central's Matt Paulson, just a frosh, has already hammered out that 1:58.7 in the 800. That was still early in the season. And your mile is impressive for an underclassmen, but don't forget Anthony Merra and Dante Vitigliano are both sophomores this year, each having seperate successes in the past school year. And so far this season you have Brendan Hyland of Concord with a 4:32, Kyle Audet with a 4:35, and whatever other improvements that haven't been posted on the Battlenotes yet.
Skibum657

Name is Zach. I recently won the 100 at the mv invitational and took second in the 200 to Dodds. But, I got beat hard by him at our tri city meet yesterday. My team has some amazing distance runners. Wells-Bogue, Dutille, and Rogers and a few others. Wells-Bogue and Duttile ran 2:00 and 2:02 yesterday in the 800 and ran the mile and 2 mile.
Are the majority of people here Class I, Class L, or Class M,S?
Unless I'm mistaken, the Freshmen/Sophomore Meet is this Saturday
The girls Fr. & Soph. meet is this Saturday, the boys meet is next Saturday (4/14).
Iseason you have Brendan Hyland of Concord with a 4:32, Kyle Audet with a 4:35, and whatever other improvements that haven't been posted on the Battlenotes yet.
Brendan should definitely be going under 2 soon… he ran a 2:01 at his first meet (St. Paul’s relays), after being sick earlier in the week.
Who’s going to the Clipper Relays this Saturday?
Concord should have a good 4 by 800 team, with Kyle Audet, Brad Ward, Tim Metcalf and Brendan Hyland. I’ve been sick for the last few days and I haven’t been running, hopefully by Saturday I’ll be back to normal.
I have Sophomore testing for the next two days :) .

Thanks Ben, we'll probably be at the Pelham Invite Saturday, but my team likes to go to meets with one or two small teams. I've stopped treating these as meets, and just running them as workouts (no tapering, eating special or anything). I think he means states as in Meet of Champions, because it really includes the whole state. No offense to Class I or anything, but sometimes Class Lers that don't even qualify for the MoC would win an event in Class I. Class L is where the competition is at this year.
This is true but there would be no point in having a meet of champions if it was just a repeat of the Class L meet. Some Class I runners have done well at Moc some years. But in general Class L > Class I.
Edit: When I called Wells-Bogue and Dutille "machines" I meant that all they do is run. I didn't state or imply they were going to win Moc.

Ugh, no Clipper Relays today. I heard about ten minutes after I posted, conviently making me look stupid. Here's a question, though. How does the Meet of Champs organization work. I know that in Cross Country, top seven teams in each class go to MoC. How does it work in track? Is it top six finishers in each event, or is there a qualifying standard?
B. MEET OF CHAMPIONS - June 4, 2005
1. The top performers in each event in each Class Meet will qualify for the Meet of
Champions according to the following formula: CLASS L - top 5; CLASS I - top 4; and
CLASS M-S - top 3 (plus any ties). In addition, the next four (4) best performers regardless
of class will also qualify for the Meet of Champions.
2. MEET OF CHAMPIONS - QUALIFYING STANDARDS
Athletes who do not qualify by means of their finish at the Class Meet, who have
achieved the qualifying (FAT) standard in their event (listed below) will be eligible for the
State Meet of Champions. The NHIAA Outdoor Track Committee shall be solely
responsible for determining the proper seeding position of all entrants.

Considering that its in the exact format of all races on Lancertiming and we were talking about the MoC and in the heading it talks about the 2003 champion and ALL the grades of the runners on the list are behind by one year one might be able to induce that they might be the MoC results from last year, but I don't want to give away too many hints.
Besides, a lot depends on who runs what. And if they stay healthy. Who knows if Paul Ahern will catch the flu for the 3rd time in one year.

Pete Jaques... Unsure of what I'm running at CVC Prelims. Probably the mile and 2-mile because i've trained mostly for that. Maybe 4x4, maybe 800. I hear the meet is at a different location than Keene this time around. True?
Also, class L obviously has the most competition due to the fact that there are the most people. However that doesn't mean that Wells-Bogue and Dutille aren't machines. They're just as strong as many good Class L runners. I would even argue that Class I would be stronger than we are now if we competed with Class L teams because it would give us the racing experience we lack due to less competition at all levels.
Automatic qualifying for Class L's is 4:30, I find it hard to believe that a 4:29.74 can automatically get you in MoC. Is this old information? Or is it just that strange.
That document was edited for the 2005 season, so I would assume that 4:29:74 would get you into MoC, it dose seem slow though. It’s weird they go to hundredths of a second, would 4:29:75 not get me in?

Since there are standards you can run to qualify for Meet of Champions, are there standards that can qualify you for New Englands too. If so, what are they? I'm pretty sure James Myles got into Indoor New Englands this way last year when he got tripped up on the hurdles, so I'm pretty sure there are standards.

I’ll be running the 3200 at the Capital Classic on Saturday.
After running the 1600 this past Tuesday, I broke my previous 3200 pr by over two minutes :D , at the end of the race I still felt like I could have run faster, so I’m going to give it another try this Saturday. Running the 1600 on Tuesday was a surprise, I found out I was running it while the girls were on the second lap of the 1600.

I had never raced the 3200 before so I ran behind Nat for most of the race, I think I ended up running somewhere around 10:14.

does anyone know of ANY meets this Friday or Saturday that a Class I team can go to??? we missed the deadline for the entries for the Hanover Invite and now are meetless. there're also a few kids that are hoping for one last meet to qualify in... ANY meets would be awesome. thanks.
Hurdlin Duck. A few options to consider:
1) Did Kress call the meet director in Hanover? You do not have a huge team and maybe they will let you in.
2) The Capital area meet is your next option. Pelham used to attend that meet.
3) I thought Monadnock is having a Last Chance Twilight meet this coming Friday?
4) Campbell High School is having a 7-10 team home meet friday night. Ask Judy metz to call their AD about letting your team in.
5) There is a high performance meet in Waltham MA on Sunday afternoon. Though it is mostly distance events.

i'm running the 3200 on saturday. does anyone know who else is in that race.
Concords running Tim Metcalf, Kyle Audet, Nat Nelson and Brad Ward in the 3200, we’ve qualified (Edit)provisionally for the class “L” meet. Brendan Hyland and Patrick Teune are running in the 1600.
Kily, the battlenotes have not been updated. A few people ran automatics on Tuesday. There are now 14 automatics in the 3200m. There are only 16 per event which means only two provisional positions left in the 3200m. Nelson and Ward need big races on Saturday to get in. I think at this point they need to hit the automatic time. Your 1600m time may not get you in either, unless a few of the guys in front of you drop out. Brendon should get in the 1600m, but the 800m he will be on the bubble unless people start dropping out.
The distance races are loaded. Good luck this weekend.
Hurdlin Duck, on www.directathletics.com it shows that your team is scheduled tomorrow to run at Souhegan??? Are you going there?
What teams besides Londonderry are running at Salem tomorrow?
I realize it will be hard for us to get in this year. Even though Brendan ran 2:00:xx all by himself the other day, he will be running the 1600 at the class meet. I ran my fastest 1600 time this year at our second dual meet and it was only three seconds faster than my freshman pr. For some reason I can't run a fast 1600. I’m in a lot better shape this year than last, so TuesdayI tried the 3200 for the first time. I’m not running any event before the 3200 on Saturday and now I know how to pace myself in that event, hopefully I will be able to run a faster time.

Really? Thats really dissapointing for me cuz i was on the bubble and now im probably out. Good luck to all you Concord guys.
Don't be discouraged, things can happen between now and the seeding meeting. I'm sure some athletes will opt out of individual events for relay events. Coaches will also place athletes where they think they can score the most points. So you never know until after the seeding meeting. I have seen athletes get in that were pretty far down the list because of coaches moving athletes around.
Kily you are still developing and don't be discouraged by not improving leaps and bounds. If you're in it for the long term, you will be fine.

That is very true because i ran a 4:34 mile as a freshman and did not come close to hitting that time last year even though I was in great shape. Then this year i've lowered my pr by 7 seconds in just one race so anything can happen.

Yes, New Hampshire distance is really loaded this year. There are so many good runners!
My opinion is that New Hampshire was the best New England distance state this year, and the second best in the Northeast, except for New York, which is far bigger.
For the size of New Hampshire, there is an exceptional amount of good runners.

Pinkerton will be at Salem today, I'm sure of. I'm running the 1600 and Owen Graham, John Greenlaw, and (I think) Matt Webber will all be running the 3200. They've all qualified provisionally with times in the 10:teens and they're all looking to qualify automatically today. Me, I'll be running the 800 in Class L's so my 16 time today doesnt matter all that much. . .the goal, of course, it to PR. Are they running a 4x8 today?

what are people predictions for the class meets? winners and times?
I don't know much about events other than 400-3200 but i'll post what i think for those in class I
400 is gonna be a battle between Tyler Dodds and Doug Mercer, but with the seed times Dodds will be chasing Mercer, so we'll see what happens
800 I have no clue, i'd say probably Wells Bogue although ben jenkins could be right there, and peter jaques could be in there too
for 1600 i think that wells bogue again will be near the front, as well as Dutille, and i think McGrath will be fighting with the two of them, we'll see how things go
3200 i'd say it'll come down to a battle between mcgrath and eyob eyualem, although times are tight and you never really know what might happen, as of now in the battle notes i'd say it could be anyone's race, however mcgrath and eyualem have both run low 9:40's and no one else in the class has ever gone under 9:50 so i'm guessing it will come down to those two

Anyone have predictions for which teams will do well at their respective class meets? In class M&S I think that on the girls side Inter-Lakes and Hopkinton have very strong teams with Newfound and Gilford also in the mix. For guys, Prospect Mountain has done really well this year along with Gilford, Belmont, and Newfound. It's nice to finally have the power house of Bow move up to Class I so some new teams can actaully contend in class M&S. I'm hoping that my team(Gilford) gets at least a runner-up for either guys or girls. Good luck to everyone this Saturday! Pray for "ok" weather...

Class I boys : Hanover, Fall Mountain, or Lebanon or some other team.
It all comes down to how well Wells-Bogue, Dutille, and Rogers do for Lebanon in the distance races. Hanover has Dodds in 100, 200, 400 and long jump. Womack in the jav, high, and discus and then Cyrus and Mosenthal in the hurdles. Fall Mountain has Morway, Perry, and strength in the field events. Merrimack Valley is strong in hurdles and throws but that's it. Can't forget Con val and Monadnock either.

Brendan plays basketball in the winter and soccer in the fall. He’s a really tough kid, if he built a good running base and got in good shape he would be an amazing runner. He probably does much less training than runners that run times similar to his. He’s thinking about running this fall instead of playing soccer.
