I was just wondering what kind of times in other events would indicate that I am ready to run around 2:38-9 in the 1000. like 1600,800, and 500 times?

500 1:11.8-1:12.3
800 2:00.9-2:01.7
Mile 4:28.1-4:29.8

Based on the mcmillanrunning.com calculator. Your 800 time would be the best indicator for your predicted 1000.

To make any sort of estimation I would probably have to know how good you are at the 800 relative to the 1600. I'm assuming you're generally a mid-distance runner, but I know people who run 4:45 for 1600 and 2:40 for 1k and I know people who run 4:30 for 1600 and 2:40 for 1k. It really depends where you specialize.

Yea that was pretty dumb of me...my PR's are

1600: 4:29
1000: 2:43
800: 2:01 (split)
400: 55 (split)

Granted those were last outdoor season. I had a great xc season (over a minute PR in the 5k) I dont think I am capable of running a 4:29 right now or a 2:01 :/. Also this is indoor so times are generally slower.

On a related topic, does a sub 2:50 1k pretty much require sub 4:50 mile shape or sub 2:10 800m shape? My pr for 1k is 2:53 and I'd like to break the 2:50 mark, but I'm not sure if that's reasonable based off of pr 2:14 800m and 4:48mile. After all, Chanelle Price was the only girl to do it last year so I don't know.

as for the op I'd say you are right on track for that time.

roesler, hasay, babcock, jillian smith and others could have done it (well, a very good chance).. just the 1k is not a commonly run event.

I agree, they all probably would have if they had tried.(DEFINATELY could have) Still, those are extremely elite athletes there, Chanelle Price level for sure.

Guess I'll give it my best shot and see. The 1k is my favorite event. I'm sad it's not really run in college.
