View Full Version : 46.5 400m as an 8th grader...Possible / realistic?

So I was on the myspace group for Track and Field Runners, and this kid claims to have gotten 10.8, 22.3, and 46.5. My question is, do you think this is possible? I'm thinking this kid is a big fake, considering in NJ alone the 400m record is like 46.## or something along those lines by Bryant McCombs /Shaquan Brown.
Anyway, heres the link. (http://forum.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=messageboard.viewThread&entryID=5565149&groupID=100059767&Mytoken=20050825101947)

Its very doubtful... But since he was in Middle school last year and will be in high school this year, I guess we'll find out soon enoguh. I would think a 46.5 runner would crack 22 seconds in the 200 for sure.

FAKE
Did you ever notice that those with exceptional talents never ever boast like that? By the way that kid speaks, I can tell that he is a fake who needs a little ego boost.

I doubt it. Khaliff Featherston of Simon Gratz had one of the fastest 8th grade times I had ever heard of, but that was only 48 high. Granted the time is ridiculous but I say 'only' because 46.5 is WAY out in the marks of elite high schoolers. It would be extremely hard to believe such a claim, especially without any witnesses, results, etc.

Well Obea Moore ran 47.16 as a 8th grader in 1993. So i suppose its possible for someone to go under 47, but Moore was a rare breed. I cant think of anyone else who has come close since, and considering freshamn class record for high school is 46.55 by William Reed in 1985, no one beside Xavier Carter who rab 46.95 as a frosh and Obea Moore 46.96 as a frosh have come close.

This kid is my exact height, weight, and build (5'5", 118 lb). I seriously don't think it's humanly possible for a guy my size to run that fast.

You'd have to weigh at LEAST 150, AT LEAST. Oh well its just a lil trash talkin twerp. Maybe he can have someone with actual skill show him how big boys "play" track.

I agree it is possible for an 8th grader to run 46.5 but i dont believe that this kid did it. If he had run this time i guarentee i would've heard about it, and then he said he only ran the 400 one time. Now who would belive that. He claims that he has only ran the event one and his time was a 46.5 and they didnt have results for the meet and actually expects people to believe him. Well this gave me my laugh for today i think this kid has some problems.

ive never heard of a kid in midddle school breaking 50. i bet he just ran 300 and said it was 400. lol

remember, he ran the 46 the first time he ever ran the 400....
riiight
by his average decrease... of 10.8 to 22.3 ~0.7 seconds per 100m, at that rate, he would have run (correct me if im wrong) about a 47.4. if he kept that decrease. which means, his 46 whatever means he would have run his PR through 200 meters, and didnt slow down as much as he did from his 100 to 200 times.
i call, bull

Well, Xavier Carter has the age group record for 13 year olds & it's below 50 seconds. I don't remember his exact time but he set it at the AAU nationals in "99" (7th grade).

You think that's crazy, he ran 47 in the 8th grade & didn't run summer track. Could you imagine lining up as a normal 7th or 8th grade kid against one of the best sprinters in the world for his age? That time would have won the 400m at the Florida HS state meet for all divisions in "00". Yes I looked it up.

claims to have gotten 10.8, 22.3, and 46.5.
Considering the fact that a 10.8 is harder than a 22.3, he shouldn't be able to run a faster scaled 400 than a 200. But his 400 time is much harder at 46.5 than a 22.3
Without seeing the other race times and only the 400 time, its possible if the guy was held back for a couple years.

We shouldn't even be wasting anymore time discussing why he didn't run that 400 time. That's probably what he wants. The kid is a joke. It's that simple.

Obey Moore ran a low 47 as a 14 year old-an 8th grader which is an age group record. Anyone that claims he runs that fast can be verified with his name.
